Nothing in the LOTR series is as wretched as TLJ.

I pretty much agree that the Hobbit films have better acting and much worse pacing than the PT. But I think the writing is better in the Hobbit films; as ridiculous as they are, nothing is as nonsensical as Anakin's turn, and that was the key moment in the PT. But it's largely a matter of taste. I would argue that ROTK is better than ROTJ, however.

It's not really a fair comparison, though. Every time Jackson falters is when he's extrapolating beyond the source material; OTOH, for Lucas there was no source material. So maybe the edge should go to Star Wars.

Then you have the Disney films which are of comparable quality to the OT. But people are still gunshy after the PT, and who can blame them?

I feel like people's concentration here is on movies (and TV shows to a lesser extent), even if book titles appear in the survey.

Otherwise, there's no question - LOTR it is, hands down, along with ASOIAF and then Harry Potter. Star Wars might have qualified, but considering that they threw out 30 years of extraneous material and EA doesn't appear to be interested in making Star Wars video games except in the laziest, slowest way possible, I don't think they could compete.

Movies only? The Hobbit trilogy really drags the LOTR brand down, in that case.

The Hobbit movies didn't destroy any chance of enjoying the LoTR trilogy like TLJ ruined SW I-VI.

Of course, a LoTR sequel trilogy that reveals Frodo was actually a piece of crap would.

I must have missed the scene in TLJ where Yoda set fire to your Star Wars DVD collection.

I haven't watched them in years now. They are unwatchable to me because I feel they are for nothing. I can't disregard TFA and TLJ like I can with garbage Post-Crisis comics. Having Hamill, Fisher and Ford in them makes them too close to legit for me to pretend like they don't exist. So instead, they just ruin the rest of the series-for me.

Really, i think the Wizarding World series is the one i trust the most as long as Rowling still controls it. As soon as she's gone, it'll become garbage, too.

    McDonalds.

They were always a bit too "junk food" for my taste. But when they introduced salads as part of their healthy choices range, they came into their own both creatively and commercially.

You can somewhat reconcile it by taking Palpatine at his word in the Opera conversation when he hints that Anakin was created by Palpatine's master. Thus, Star Wars is a 9-piece allegorical rejection of in-vitro fertilisation. :p

I'm on a whole new level. The prequels exist. They're there. I accept it. They suck, but they're real.

It's said Episode 9 will try to bring the saga full circle, and include lots of PT stuff. I say: bring it on. The more, the merrier; the whackier, the better.

It will be bad. I don't care. As long as it's entertaining and looks cool.
I kinda hope Jar Jar is in it.

Star Wars is a movie franchise first and foremost. Having an uncharacteristically wonderful TV show doesn't change the middling reception that the 'stirring conclusion' of the trilogy of trilogies got, and we're in a lull now. Their video games are still a fraction of the Lucasarts heydays, the comics are 'meh', and the novels hamstrung for years by not being able to do what they want (although let's see how the High Republic goes). The RPG has predictably died, when it once was the creator of pretty much every aspect of Star Wars because Lucas was too lazy to come up with names for his aliens. The "New EU" overall - designed to keep interest going between long pauses in the movies - is still a lot of 'meh'.
