Oh Most Respected Elders, Bitter New Agers and Axe-Wielding Youths, as promised, I bring the horrors of social contact to you as a shiney little New Years gift!

Now, in the past, many successful social events have been spontaneous. I don't want to lose that aspect of things and so I am planning on cultivating this thread in two directions...

    1. Planned Events: Revolving around going out for coffee, drinks, movies (Star Wars/Lucasfilm related and otherwise) and other such 'normal' activities. I want to keep them primarily 'all ages/paycheck friendly', so that people who aren't old enough to frequent pubs and the like still feel like they can participate, but as I do like to indulge in a big night out on the milk, I won't ever discourage the organisation of such! These can be organised by ANYONE, so don't feel like you have to leave everything up to me ;)

    2. Spontaneous Events: An organic take on the social event. If you're going to see a band or a film and want some company, post the details in the thread! Seen some cool graffiti on the way home? Tell us about it so we can check it out. Think we should all see the latest exhibition at ACMI or want to educate us as to why we all are mongoloids for not even trying to understand the brilliance of your latest creation? Explain! Think that a gory afternoon of violence and video games via Doom and Resident Evil movies will cheer us all up? Going to the footy/cricket/soccer? Well, you get the idea. Doing something, post it here. It will either get you some company or at least a bit of discussion!

Now, I will be organising outings when I can, but don't feel like you have to go through me to catch up or meet people!

And so, I open up the world of social engagement to you all and hope you take advantage of it!

    Hmm. Am I an axe-wielder? I'm confused.

Good to see this thread, Jess. VicFF is threatening to turn into a proper FF, I see.

Oh, dearheart, I threaten and threaten, but really, I am insidiously working towards making VicFf a functional place...

VicFF has been more functional then the acne-riddled merchandise-mad collectives across the border.

We're always vibrant and madcap in our posting, when we can be arsed or aren't delighting in the Pastryman's latest dish. If you start holding meets you'll just bring all of the deadwood out of their basements into the sunlight.

And I for one, refuse to breath the same air as such folk. Come Herr Mixo! It is time for lunch.

    No Respect anymore.

I reckon I'll just move to the Netherlands and induldge in fresh custard tart for the remainder of my years. The odd coffee enjoyed with Archie, a nice little niche market in freshly chopped pine timber products, life could truly be beautiful!

When was there ever respect around this place?

Look, social outings are GREAT but realistically they will be tough. However, entice me with the prospects of a risky 'social outing' and i just might be there ;)

    Maybe 2006 holds a non-Ballarat, non-***t-faced endevour.

Ah well, despite some people being so afraid of/against this, I have decided on the first casual meet of the year.

    Well, Sort of.

I thought that perhaps a trip to the Moonlight Cinema would be a nice way to meet up without having to deal with each...I mean, would be a lovely way to get to know people and will give us something to talk about that isn't the boards. :D

Here is the link: Melbourne Moonlight Cinema

I thought maybe Kung Fu Hustle, Episode 3 (Ohh Noooess star wars!), Ferris Bueller or even Princess Bride. I would like to suggest Donnie Darko or Steve Zissou, but I don't want to alienate people :p But have a look at the program, figure out what you'd like to see and I will do my best to organise a nice little picnic!

I throw this suggestion open to the masses and the bats. I will make a decision on it based on peoples responses, so any and all input would be nice.

And by nice, I mean I'll buy all the munchies if that's what it takes :p

But alas, PoT, the Netherlands have a fine and active FanForce. Perhaps you'll have to find somewhere else to be cool and exclusive?

Jess, I'm in. All films mentioned sound terrific, with the exception of Bueller, which I loathe.

    Moonlight Cinema....love the idea.

Ummmmmm...wasn't it this Fan Force that told the former CR that "Going to the movies was a bad idea"?

    Just asking................. :p

I think maybe it was because you don't have boobs to use in an arguement :p

Also: I was busting some moves last night and dislocated my knee (Yes, I am aware that I am the worlds worst and best idiot), so I'm gonna be out of action on the social front for just a couple of weeks. I promise this won't stop us going to the movies, but it might put it off for a while ;)

Anyway, apart from Dan's unbelievably horrible statements about Ferris, I'm glad to see a few people are in for the event :) I hope people have been looking at the program and deciding if anything takes their fancy!

I don't think anyone said going to the movies was a bad idea - I think it was said that having a movie night (at someone's house) was a bad idea for a first meet.

Also, nice going Jess. You'll be on Dancing with the Stars any moment now! :p
