There's probably a date on the bottom of the poster; but I didn't think about it when I took the picture as it's out of focus.

A smartphone is superior to the Apollo computers several-to-ten thousand times over. A USB stick probably has more power than the NASA mainframes did at the time. fast forward a decade (or three, if you go to the end of the craft's run) and even the more advanced space shuttle computers was were powerful than an XB360.

As far as the film's demo goes, it is almost certainly aimed at an older audience, right down to the faded 1960's documentary look. However, it seems to be a decent split. According to BOM, "The film played to an audience that was 56% male, playing to an audience of which 52% were 35 years of age or older."

First Man may not have a huge opening but I bet it plays for quite awhile.

Yep. A smartphone would have been wizardry. This is more powerful than the Apollo computers:

The paradigm on the Apollo landings' "lack" of computational equipment is kind of backwards, it's more that it's astonishing how quickly computers came to be considered indispensable parts of our lives at an almost unprecedented rate. Like, really, your smartphone is basically indistinguishable from magic to someone timewarped directly here from the 1960s, it's kind of insane that because of microchips everyone has one in their pocket rather than it requiring 80 million rooms full of big tape readers.

Truth. As a kid who sent text messages to friends on the University of Illinois' PLATO mainframe in the 1970s, smartphones still seem like one of the really successful deliverables promised by science fiction. Basically they're indistinguishable from magic to 99% of the human population.

This is what I used for texting. Hard to put in a pocket:

All I know is that my gut says Maybe. Hell, maybe I'll go full rock glam musical and double feature it with Star is Born. My old man has been laid up for awhile but I know he wants to see First Man. So, maybe!

Most definitely. If only for the soundtrack and lead performance. Every film I've seen the trailers with this year left a very positive impression with the audience, so it'll probably make for a good experience.

I'll probably see Bohemian Rhapsody unless the reviews are really bad. I saw the trailer in the cinema and liked it.

This looks like a lot of fun. Made by the same dude who directed Attack the Block.

Watched "Brawl in Cell Block 99"

It's thoroughly unpleasant schlock, but well-done unpleasant schlock. It also manages to make Vince Vaughn seem menacing instead of annoying, which is something of a miracle of filmmaking.

I know this is one of the most famous matchups in the history of cinema, but what I'd really like to see is Pazuzu vs Godzilla.

yah I dig Brawl in Cell Block 99 even though it takes awhile to get to the titular brawl but the best part is Vaughn's character wrecking his way through various convicts and guards to get to Cell Block 99. Also there's a bit with a face in the pavement that is so absurdly gory that it almost a laugh. And, holly hell, Don Johnson being menacing as heck. Don Johnson! Gives me hope for him being cast in Watchmen TeeVee show.

I think Bohemian Rhapsody is the only one on my list for cinema viewing this year. If I want to see anything else it will be on satellite.
