I have a question about the alphabet. Aurebesh, I believe it's called. I hope Expanded Universe is the place to post it?

I have no issue with there being an Aurebesh discussion thread here in the EUC. RenEss, ask your question and the folks here will do what we can to help.

OK, great. Does the Aurebesh alphabet translate straight to English? Like an A is Aurek and B is Besh and the word CAR would be spelled (sounded out) cresh-aurek-resh?

Like, Elvish in Lord of the Rings is definitely not a straight translation, the words are combinations of sounds like Japanese and Chinese are.

Not sure if I'm making sense.

Making sense yes, but in the future make sure you use the edit feature to avoid stacking posts/triple posting as you did there.

As far as my understanding of Aurebesh goes, yes Car would be simply spelled Cresh, Aurek, Resh.

Sorry about that. And thank you. Of course, it's for a tattoo.

Well if it's for something permanant I would get a second or third opinion before taking my word for it. :p

Yes, I'm waiting to see if anybody else replies. I'm not tearing down to the tattoo parlor tonight.

Why would you get a tattoo, out of curiosity?

    Why not? ;)

Seriously, tho, I have several tattoos already, two of which are Star Wars related, and I'm planning a third, which will be a large design.

Yes, for the most part, I do believe it does. There are several additional phonetic letters, such as ch, ae, eo, kh, ng, oo, sh, and th.

    Hello @ RenEss @twowolves @Amon_Amarth

I'm interested in Aurebesh as well. Seeing that you have not been active since Jan. 2017, I don't know if you'll get this message. It would be cool to continue a discussion thread on Aurebesh.

Well, it says "TRUST IN THE", assuming the other side says "FORCE". Trust in the force.

Sadly (or impressively, depending on one's point of view), I've gotten to the point where I can just read Aurebesh after looking at it for a few seconds. Still not fluent enough to read it when it's just on screen for a second or two, like on TV or in a movie I'm watching, but I'm good with still images.

Before I gained this pathetic ability, I would go to http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Aurebesh/Legends.

I'll take impressive! I have come across decoder rings for sale on Ebay for 15 bucks. Even if you have to look up info to decode or translate that is neat. I'm probably late to the table in terms of understanding how to work with Aurebesh. I just haven't come across enough discussions.

EDIT: People learning Aurebesh or another Sci-Fi language and then becoming embarrassed to use it --- That is why there are too few discussions!

Yeah, but after R1 somebody over in the Lit forum made a joke about Trust-in being so close and the crystal being a new member of N'Sync, and now I ca't get it out of my head.

I'm really sad I didn't buy the aurabesh cloth poster at Celebration Europe in '07. It was pricey, £50 and I was about to start Uni, so responsibility prevailed. Unfortunately, I never saw anything like it at any other con or online.

Aurebesh isn't a language, it's an alphabet. The common language of the Star Wars universe, the one for that Aurebesh letters are used, is Galactic Basic Standard, but it's the same as English.
