So will he go for scorched Earth this time? I have to assume this is some grand experiment to see how far he can push things and he must surely be planning to go even further this time. Which for those of us who could care less about the awards, makes them instantly more fun to watch. :p

Thank God. He was unbelievably epic before and I thought all the backlash was beyond stupid. I mean, you get him there for the cringe, right? And he delivered.

Golden Globe and Screen Actor Guild nominees were just announced. Pretty typical selections for the SAG awards and some good choices for the Golden Globes. Glad to see Brendan Gleeson get a nod for his hilarious performance in The Guard.

Seriously? People think The Artist is a strong contender for Best Picture come Oscar time?

... Actually, wait, it's a safe, bubbly, enjoyable film with competent acting. It's a freakin' shoo-in.

Yeah, it's the hot favourite. It hasn't landed here yet, but then I was so damn unenthused by The Descendants that I'm almost rooting for it. Since War Horse is losing steam across the board due basically to the fact that it is criminally misunderstood, and Drive is a long shot, my interest in this year's race is limited. I like Hugo, and it's an amazing technological accomplishment, but it doesn't linger in the memory. Moneyball's pretty great, though.

If Fincher's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo starts showing up in any Best Screenplay or Best Picture races come Oscar or BAFTA or whatever time, then I'll be really disinterested in this year's race.

Yeah, Ricky Gervais was a lot more restrained. The penis joke was pretty good, though.

And good lord, the amount of Madonna present was tremendously over my Madonna tolerance quotient. Please, just stop paying attention to her.[face_frustrated]

They showed some shots of Elton John during her acceptance speech.

He seemed to be thinking exactly the same thing.

He got a couple good jabs in there, but I agree- he was much more restrained this year. But it also seems like tehre was less of him as well.

    My friends,

As has become a tradition over the last several years, I have composed my own personal list of nominations for the Academy Awards, as well as selected winners in each category. As before, these selections are strictly my own and have no bearing on the actual nominations which will be announced Tuesday, nor are they predictions for the actual nominations. I only nominate from movies I have actually seen, and I have provided a list of all eligible films I have seen this year at the end of my selections.

This year was a little more difficult than previous years, because I felt the current batch of movies being considered for awards is one of the weakest group of films I have seen in recent years. Overall, I felt 2011 was a weak year for film. However, there were a few bright shining examples of good filmmaking, and one true knockout Sucker Punch of a film that blew me away with how creative and innovative, and brilliantly written it was. And that movie is in fact Sucker Punch and is the recipient of 7 academy awards including Best Picture of the Year. I'm sure many of you are scratching your head at this selection, but if you watch the movie and take it in as more than just a bunch of hot chicks fighting supernatural monsters and Nazi Zombies, you will discover a true work of art with brilliant Cinematography, good editing, spectacular visuals, and a story that is incredibly deep and sophisticated and mind bending. I suggest watching the director's cut on Blu-Ray if you get the chance. I hope you enjoy this year's selections and will take the opportunity to view many of these worthy films. The 54th Annual Grammy Awards

"Okay, so Adele's probably gonna sweep all the main Grammy award categories. But why focus on just the trophies? The performances are way more exciting, especially with Nicki Minaj making her debut on the Grammy stage. Bruno Mars, Foo Fighters, Paul McCartney, Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, and Taylor Swift are also scheduled to perform, and Coldplay will team up with ''Princess of China'' guest star Rihanna for the first time live. Who will get this year's Arcade Fire BMX Bicycle Award for the night's most memorable moment? What color wig will Nicki wear? And what on earth is LL Cool J doing here? (Answer: Apparently he's hosting.) Expect lots of excitement, even more leopard-print dresses ? and at least one opportunity for fans to get outraged. ?Melissa Maerz"
