JCC Bad lyrics in classic songs

He didn't rhyme step with step, he rhymed doorstep with more step. Those are two totally different things. Totally.

When you read it, it sounds bad. When Elvis sang it, it sounded perfect.

Juliet for ****'s sake it's about classic songs. Train will never fall into that category. I'm not sure you know good classic music though, so...

The Boxer is poetry. The story it tells is vivid and remorseful, but there's one bit that just doesn't work:

Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters
Where the ragged people go
Looking for the places
Only they would know

This, from a song that also has this beautiful imagery:

I am just a poor boy
Though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest

WTAF?

 

It's "you gotta get with my friends" which is a much better... or worse... Lyric.

you can't argue with the poetry there , but "SHE HIT DOWN A TRICK" doesn't quite work .

also not a classic, and not to speak ill of the dead, but whew:

if only because I can't hear it without thinking about that actual classic poem from the wall of a public toilet stall:

Anyway, "there's a bathroom on the right" is a terrible lyric. Do they even change it depending on the specific venue they're performing? Usually the bathroom's in the back.

 

I mean, are you an authority on venues and their layouts? Specifically venues CCR have played? I think you're making a big assumption there. A better question would perhaps be "my right or their right?"

 

I always thought I misheard that , so it really is cup of meat ??
