So rad they built a full scale Tantive IV.

As with most of the ST, the production values are great. They certainly look like expensive films.

It's a shame all that detail in the Exogol sets are largely hidden in dark shadows.

I wish we got to see daytime Kijimi in the film. My favourite planet in TROS.

Seriously. I am kind of shocked how much of the sets was physically there. Also, that there was an actual X-Wing lifted around for Ahch-To! That's so cool, I would've bet it to be entirely CG.

Re: the Tantive IV set, did anyone else kind of feel like the ship looked kind of small in scale for what it should be?? There were moments there where it just seemed...smaller than it should have to me, especially when people were hanging from it or standing under it.

I knew this was coming, given the severity of his condition over the last few months, but God this hurts so much. So much of what I know and understand about the production of some of my absolute favorite films is thanks in large part to Rinzler's work. Keeping his family in my thoughts right now....

A massive loss. His book on the making of ROTS remains a singular touchstone for me, and his OT books are no doubt essential, thoroughly researched. I hope his efforts on TFA find some form of release in the future.

Love some of this wild early TROS concept art:

Gak, that would have been great but I guess JJ liked the TFA underwater Death Star wreckage concept art more.

I do like the Dark Rey we got in TROS more than that concept art, for all of 30 seconds. "Don't be afraid!"

Showing Dark Rey in the trailer was basically taking something that could have been a really cool moment and exploiting it into something that was cheesy and basically a huge let down in the movie. It's actually pathetic how many good Star Wars moments have been ruined by the trailers. And it's not just the ST. TPM trailer showed virtually every cool thing you would see in the film. Actually, the ST may have been a little better about that stuff than the PT was, come to think of it.

I think the Disney+ shows are the first ones that might genuinely have super-tight, no-spoilers-allowed marketing.

Yah I pretty much agree that Dark Rey in the trailer set up certain expectations which the movie didn't match. But the Dark Rey moment in the film is kinda great, even if it's like 45 seconds but it's a really cool 45 seconds.

I like that image of Rey on an ash-strewn Coruscant. Very imaginative!

It seems like more effort was put into the dark Rey concept art than the Dark Rey scene in the film.

That, or too much effort was put into the film concept. You can overthink these things.

Jason Fry did a brief interview about his novelization of The Last Jedi:

It's fine overall, but of course this dude couldn't pass up the opportunity to undermine John Boyega and throw TROS under the bus for problems that began in TLJ. Like, I expected some of his Finn commentary, but my jaw nearly hit the floor when he said it was TROS that made Hux into comic relief lol, holy ****.

Also I found it messed up that he was willing to apologise about how he wrote Rose as being jealous of Rey (and he was right to apologise for that trash), but he remained blind to the fact that Rose spent the entire story bashing Finn (which was tied to the same jealosy issue), yet doesn't feel that any criticism of Finn's arc is fair aside from the mop line.

Dude's a certified clown as far as I'm concerned.
