Added a vote for his Indiana Jones scores, but also gave Jurassic Park a point, too. Those themes are magical.

The Lost World Theme is also fantastic. His great work in that franchise didn’t end with the original.

Agreed... but the question is, what tracks would make the cut?

Oh wow.... that deserves a thread in its own right.

Pick your best of John Williams spread over 2 cd's with max 80 mins per cd.

Well I like a good old fanfare, so Superman gets my vote. Bill Conti's Rocky fanfare in '76 was a banger. Maybe the success of that gave Williams a bit of encouragement to try something similar.

The blast of brass in the opening measure of A New Hope's soundtrack hints that he may have possibly considered using a fanfare over the opening title and text crawl. I guess Alfred Newman's 20th Century Fox fanfare that immediately proceeds his opening theme swayed him away from that idea. He would obviously revisit the fanfare in The Phantom Menace. Taking inspiration from Rozsa's Ben Hur score. Conti's Rocky fanfare sounds very swords and sandals-ish as well. So he maybe he was influenced by Rozsa.

So yeah, his Superman score is great, and fanfares are great. Bring back fanfares you rotters!

But also its not just the obvious 'title tracks' like the superman / jaws / ET / Jurassic Park / SW / Indy main themes. You've got other tracks within those soundtracks that are just as good IMO - like the desert chase, the temple of doom or Leia's theme to name just a few, which is what makes it so difficult.

When Spielberg was making Schindler's List, he called in John Williams to score it. After JW watched part of it, he said the movie needed a better composer than himself. Spielberg answered, "I know, but they're all dead."

    You must ... choose!

I can't. There are so many wonderful scores. There's no way to choose among them.

I just played Welcome to Jurassic Park for my young nieces and they were so impressed by it. And then I explained what it was showing.

I'd like to give Catch Me if You Can a mention. Williams re-captured that playful 60's sound guys like Henry Mancini were so good at.

Personally I feel like a Greatest Hits album for John Williams shouldn't include any concert arrangements. It should only include actual cue and tracks used in the films.

Obviously Indiana Jones probably wins runner up, but I want to also mention Harry Potter. Mostly because a lot of it was shared with Star Wars.
