Well, this took me over a year to finish. Inspiration ran dry and it sat on my computer for a very long time. In trying to find some inspiration to write anything again, I went back to it last night.

    ///////////////

    Title: Better Days Ahead

Summary: Rey assures Temiri that things will get better.

Disclaimer: George Lucas created Star Wars. Star Wars, LucasFilm Ltd. and all its content are currently owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company.

Charcters: Temiri Blagg, Rey, Poe Dameron, Leia

Note(s): Written for the One-Hit Wonder challenge. My song was Bad Day—Daniel Powter (2006).

    Bad Day
    Daniel Powter
Where is the moment we needed the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue skies fade to gray
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carryin' on

You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee you go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces every time
And I don't need no carryin' on

Because you had a bad day
    You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
    You say you don't know
    You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
    You had a bad day
    The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
    You had a bad day
    You had a bad day

Will you need a blue sky holiday?
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don't need no carryin' on

    You had a bad day
    You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
    You say you don't know
    You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
    You had a bad day
    The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
    You had a bad day

    (Oooh.. a holiday..)

Sometimes the system goes on the blink
And the whole thing turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That you could be well oh that strong
    And I'm not wrong

    (yeah...)

So where is the passion when you need it the most
    Oh you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost

Cause you had a bad day
    You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
    You say you don't know
    You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
    You had a bad day
    You've seen what you like
And how does it feel for one more time
    You had a bad day
    You had a bad day

The last thing Temiri wanted when he entered the cantina was to be bothered by anyone wanting to shake his hand or have a holo taken with him. His face had been plastered all over the HoloNet News recently and he was getting sick of it.

“Corellian whiskey, please,” he told the bartender.

“Sure thing,” the old man replied.

Temiri turned around to wait for his drink and could feel the stares of the other patrons of the establishment zeroing in on him.

“Here you go,” the bartender said as he pushed the drink towards Temiri.

As he reached out o pick it up, the bartender got a look at him. “Hey, aren’t you…”

“Yes, yeah, that’s me,” Temiri said impatiently. “Thanks for the drink.”

He walked to the very back of the cantina and took a seat with his back against the wall. He had a clean line of sight to the front of the cantina and could see the beautiful blue shy beginning to fade to gray. A storm was coming and Temiri could feel it in his bones. It was perfect. A turn of the weather fit his day and his mood perfectly.

“Sulking?” a female voice sounded from next to him.

He jumped out of his skin. He hadn’t heard or felt her presence. He looked up at her and practically sneered.

“You followed me,” he bit out; not a question, just a fact.

Rey sat down across from him and nodded. “Yes, I did. I was…worried about you. I know how…”

“You know nothing,” he said softly.

“I know how you feel, Temiri,” she told him. “When everything goes wrong and you’re powerless to stop it; I know how that feels.”

She was heartbroken to see the tears in his eyes. “When does it stop hurting?”

“When the bad day begins to turn around,” she told him. “It will, Temiri. Blue skies turn to gray and eventually, back to blue.”

“How do you know?” he wondered.

Rey smiled. “I heard it in an old song once, a long time ago.”

For the first time in days, Temiri smiled. “A song, huh? Seems a little…odd.”

Rey shrugged. “It did to me, too. But, I heard it at the exact moment I needed to and it helped me realize that as bad as things are, they will get better. There are always better days ahead.”

He nodded just as he saw Poe Dameron walk into the cantina; his dark eyes scanning the patrons. When he spotted them, he walked over to them and took a seat next to Rey.

“We need to be going,” he said softly to them both. “I saw a few troopers outside.”

    Rey looked around. “Where’s Hanna?”

He leaned in closer to his wife to whisper. “She’s safe on the Falcon with Chewie, Lando and Leia. But, we need to go; now.”

The trio stood and Temiri took the time to down the last of his drink. He saluted the bartender as they walked past. The old man shook his head and watched the two Jedi and the best pilot in the galaxy exit.

It was days later when Temiri was perusing the database on the Falcon when he came across it. Bad Day by some band called Sonic Free.

“It was one of Han’s favorites,” came a soft voice from behind him. “He played it a lot in later years, after…”

He turned to see Leia standing next to him. “After Ben?”

She nodded as she sat down. “Better days ahead, Temiri. Always remember.”

After she left, he hit the button to play the song and sat back and listened as it began.

Where is the moment we needed the most

You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost

They tell me your blue skies fade to gray…

Temiri knew he’d had the moment he needed the most. His talk with Rey, and the very brief moment with Leia; they were his gray skies turning back to blue.
