Well, yes. Mercedes used to show off the cutting edge of technology with their flagship S-Klasse sedan, but now such an approach would render them obsolete. Like when TAG-Heuer tried to make a smartphone.

The A-Klasse comes with full Apple Drive integration and VW/Audi are running the counterpart Android suites in the Golf/Golf GTI/Golf R and A3/S3/RS3 lines.

German manufacturers do tend to aim high with their technology suites, but I don't know if that's the same thing as offering as much tech as you can for a budget-minded consumer.

The Hyundais now come with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto suites as well, for example. But do they charge as much for similar tech as VW?

Before posting, I decided to check Edmunds for the difference in pricing between the current Golf and the current Elantra. From what I saw, both makes saw a price increase of about $1000 from their base trims to the level that would include comparable tech features. Though it's worth mentioning that the Golf base model includes a touch screen interface whereas the base Elantra (at an almost similar price) does not. These are findings from Edmunds though, so fairly broad and probably not applicable in all markets. But yes, it does look like you're right, Ender.

    I usually am :p

So I was always going for the Audi S3 Sedan as my next car:

But, I'm feeling nostalgic AF about the Golf and might upgrade to the Mk VIII (when they release it) Golf R.

Mate, forget about cars. If you want to get ahead in life you need a transformer, a bdsm page and a set of spindly no-squat legs.

The Audi looks nicer, the VW will last longer.

Skoda, VW, Porsche, and Audi make up some of VW AG.

Ender, does the S3 only come with the 4 cylinder turbo or does it get the 5 cylinder turbo?

More than just those brands, actually:

"Volkswagen Group sells passenger cars under the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen marques; motorcycles under the Ducati brand; and commercial vehicles under the marques MAN, Scania, Neoplan and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles." (from Wikipedia)

I meant to add in "some of" before VW AG. I fixed the post though.;)

Yes but the parts are shared across the marques Jabber listed. So the group is larger but parts sharing is mostly within VW, Audi, Porsche and Skoda.

I believe only the RS3 gets the 5 cyl engine. S3 is still 4.

OK, yes, true about parts sharing vs. ownership.

I like the Lexus SC 430.

Looks like only one model came in a 5-speed manual though. Seems like a waste to drive a car like that in an automatic.

(So I went to "cars I would like to own and brag about.")

Well, that's disappointing but I'd still go with the Audi.
For the original price of a Lexus SC430 you could look at a Jaguar F Type, but the answer you're looking for is Miata which is well under the cost of both of those. Then there's the new Fiat 124. :D

Even though the MP4-12C GT3 is a pain to set up, I usually enjoyed simming it. There's literally not a McLaren out there I don't like.

(Road car, obvs. Though their F1 cars...)

Only sim that I drove that in has been Assetto Corsa, and the car felt like it had endless grip.

    yeah, welcome to Assetto Corsa.

    Try projectCARS instead.

The setup here gets him an insanely good laptime, but with no front downforce and you can hear the tyres sliding across the road. Best I've done in the McLaren is a 2:17.51 and that's with more drag and a race set up (so, not turning damage off and closing the radiator ducts for better aero efficiency).

EDIT: Also - I usually take the turn through Blanchimont flat, turning in hard before the apex and letting a bit of understeer help me nail it.

i have motorcycles. cars suck. i mean, i have one but only because i can't ride my bikes in the winter and i sometimes have to drive my kids around. i genuinely despise having to need to own a car.

that said, my car has 4 wheel drive and lots of auxiliary lights.

4 wheel drive insures safety in ice and snow, guy.
