Get rid of sigs, stars, post counts, but keep the "likes" and registration dates.
Do we really need registration dates, though?
let's get rid of likes, sigs, avatars, post counts, stars, Heck lets just get rid of posts and be done with it,
in short: bah humbug.
I don’t know if your being serious or not but this was already heavily discussed in the fun and games thread. The answer more or less was they are okay. And there isn’t really a reason to do it. Especially because some people get enjoyment out of seeing likes.
Edit: Plus it cuts done on “I agree” posts
Come now there has to be a thread here somewhere for that already
IF we could just get rid of all the users/mods there would be no more problems.
"delete the forums" truly is the universal solution for all of our problems.
Vote for me for head admin and I will delete everything. Other candidates make that promise in jest, but you know I'm the only one who will do it.
It's why I offer your name for nomination at every meeting.
I like the "likes." I like being able to give somebody a quick thumbs up without having to actually post a "I agree" or "great post" response.
I know this kind of got derailed with miscellaneous feature-related griping, but I still very much think reducing the signature character count is an issue that should be addressed. 20k is way too high.
But I think you have a great signature.
On the plus side, I can now say I've started reading War & Peace. Would you mind rotating in a new chapter every week or something?
It could make everyone a little more literate, really. What if we got everyone to put in little slices of literature in their signature and rotate it out weekly, like that one app?
The Internet can make a little difference in the name of good in the world, but it's up to us to make it happen.
it's true. what we should do is expand the character limit of signatures so that we can include entire novels in one sig, and then get rid of the ability to add any additional distracting text to our posts. the jc could finally make us more smart instead of whatever it is doing now.
Well in that case I can at least do you the courtesy of starting at the beginning. For context, recall that in 1805 the War of the Third Coalition is deep underway, and that there is an added irony in that Peter the Great’s westernization of the Russian nobility has made French a more common tongue amongst them than Russian itself.
"At last he came up to Morio. Here the conversation seemed interesting and he stood waiting for an opportunity to express his own views, as young people are fond of doing."
And? This signature length limit is keeping us hanging to find out what happens next.
Don't be a minimalist. Just two chapters?
Are there character limits for the body of the post? I think there should be a 10k character limit, and you can use it either in the body of your post or the signature, or split the 10k between the two. Also, you should only be allowed to change your signature once a week, and only be allowed to post once a week. That will give people freedom to allocate text between their post and their signature in any manner they see fit, but only once a week.
Who has the most irritating signature in the JCC? We should all copy that person’s sig for a week.
This is confusing, which is why it's probably a good idea.
"Well, Prince, so Genoa and Lucca are now just family estates of the Buonapartes."
Yes, I'm quite familiar with this sentence from that time Snoopy was reading a word a day.
But just imagine if he also added a lightsaber to it.
I get it, I get it. I'll change the limit.
