Amph The Indian Jones Thread (starring Harrington Fode) (Now Discussing The Dale of Density)

Aye. These titles should be pulpy. The Force Awakens/The Last Jedi/The Rise of Skywalker feel like titles that could be lumped in with any other franchise sequel title. The Empire Strikes Back is dripping in pulp. Attack of the Clones. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The Temple of Doom. Revenge of the Sith. So on and so forth.

The Dial of Destiny is probably the best title to come out of the Disney/Lucasfilm era so far, if you ask me (and Mangold is probably the most inspired director choice from the studio this side of Rian Johnson, so that has me quite excited too).

 

Just because it is "pulpy" does not mean it's any good. And the only crossover of Star Wars I wanted with Indy was to have Indiana Jones walk into a theater and go "what is this about?" at the end of the movie and you see it's "Star Wars" since Indy's character in 1977 would be roughly the same age Harrison was during filming.

@Ahsoka's Tano Agree there is nothing in that trailer that makes you go, "Wow! Got to go see it". And this is a Indiana Jones picture! Then again after Indy 4, nobody was really asking for Indy 5 anyway.

 

I doubt I'll have the motivation to see this new film in the theaters, but I'll watch it as soon as its available as a rental.

 

The title leans on great, but also leans on very bad....

And it looks very bad...

 

Wiki synopsis says Indy isn't a fan of operation paperclip and the villain is a former Nazi now NASA scientist.

I suspect I'd be more enthusiastic if they didn't slowly build to the theme with bootleg Hans Zimmer flourishes over the course of the trailer. I'm so ****ing sick of that particular marketing tactic that it's actively poisoning what are probably otherwise good trailers for me. Somebody in the trailer release pipeline needs to smuggle out the Tom Cruise Mummy-style "whoops no sound" version.

I was kind of hoping there might be some cameo with Short Round; but maybe (if he does make an appearance) we'll see him in another trailer eventually.

 

Gaaaawd yes...it's like they're trying to get stuff wrong even harder.

Adult. I think there will be enough of those digitized younger versions of older actors in this film already.

 

Good to see Mangold fighting the good fight.

Crystal Skull already pretty much sealed the deal as to whether Indy would ever be replaced.

 

The trailer doesn't do a ton for me, but Mangold is directing, so I expect it to be good.

In my mind, the "Dial" is how you change the channel on the TV at the nursey home where Indy has his fever dream adventure.

 

I'm thinking the Antikythera mechanism was the inspiration.

 

Exactly. Because any other franchise can have words like Jedi and Skywalker in the title.

Force on the other hand is in other movie titles.

 

After the aliens crap from the last movie I could see this rumor being true.
