I wish Leia got the chance to ride one in the film.

That's a great whim to broadcast. Leia had no scenes outside the safety of Echo Base. Carrie Fisher had no casting reason to go to Norway. So Leia was not in the trenches with the privates and corporals, but she made decisions and executed duties at the level of Colonel up to General, and stayed on post till the very last transport. An in-depth study of cinematic ESB Leia is very rewarding. E.g. if Rieekan was Major General, Leia made calls at the level of Lieutenant General, which would outrank him. (If one requires to assign rank to Leia in lieu of assigning that Leia is a political leader and asset that commands loyalty in a more generalized sense than chain of command. But one would/should be pressed to understand how a large number of pilots would take instructions from a politician, and one would not be pressed to understand how a large number of pilots would take instruction from someone that outranks Major Derlin standing right there.)

Yeah. Leia and Taun Tauns, indeed. And the whole tweet about a kid being named Leia because she's a General, thank you, not a Disney Princess.

 

The original Chewbacca still looks the best. The one in Empire doesn't look quite right and I don't like the curly/wavy hair in Jedi.

 

I'll have to go back looking over the various film iterations to see how that ranking works for me.

I'm thinking the lift platform in the Falcon that takes him up to grab Luke from the bottom of Cloud City.

 

Nice use of a forklift - old school SFX.

 

But it almost certainly wouldn't be allowed by modern on-set safety practices.

ESB is the finest Star Wars movie solely on the basis of proper use of hoisting hand signals.

00:25:47 A stage hand portraying the flight deck officer gives the hoist signal to the offscreen forklift driver that Mark Hamill's snowspeeder is depending upon to give the illusion of antigravity. (Harmy's ESB allows one to discern that this stage hand is wearing a right shoulder badge of three blue pips, the same as Commander Skywalker. Thus the flight deck officer is a Major or higher.)

00:29:58 A stage hand portraying a flight tech gives the hoist signal to the off screen winch that pulls up that astromech head magnet that placed R2 in his socket on the X-Wing.

 

I absolutely love all these BTS pictures. I could look at them all day. Where do people find them?

 

Peter Diamond and Mark Hamill in the desert of Tunisia.

Peter was an actor and stuntman. He played a tusken raider, storm trooper, scout trooper, snow trooper, deathstar trooper, weequay skiff master.

We also know him as the German boxer from "Raiders of the lost ark".

 

The Nazi boxer was played by Pat Roach, and not Peter Diamond.
