Going by the calendar, this has to be from Empire. The four circles (on the model's side) look like gun turrets?

 

I think they were actually made via kitbashed-model tank tops.

 

Looks like that's Luke's "borrowed" poncho from the deleted sandstorm scene in the first image.

 

So, if the "sandstorm" sequence made the final cut, would the cockpit scenes have Luke wearing his black Jedi outfit instead? Or would there be an additional scene of him putting on his orange flight suit before leaving the planet?
I don't think there's enough room in the tiny cockpit for him to get into his flight suit mid-flight.

 

There wouldn't be any scenes with Luke in the X-Wing cockpit AFAIK if the sandstorm scene were included. The scene in the released film was added in order to provide information previously found in the sandstorm scene once it was was cut. I guess the wardrobe department managed to scrounge up a flight suit left over from ESB or something.

That part of the film has an unusual number of permutations. There was an alternate design for Luke's damaged mechanical hand: a dummy hand with much more extensive damage, rather than the bit of makeup used on the scene as shown on the Blu-ray. And ILM apparently built a larger model of Luke's X-wing for an establishing shot to introduce the cockpit sequence, which didn't make it into the release cut.

 

I know about the larger X-wing model but didn’t know about the alternate dummy hand.

Filoni's basically said that he'd like it to be Rex, and that in his headcanon it's Rex, but also that it's not been officially canonized that it's Rex, leaving it up to the individual viewer to decide:

It's one of those that make sense if he was Rex, why would they have a commando that old on what is a very difficult and physically challenging mission if not as a former clone trooper who's experience would be invaluble?
