Never seen this shot before. But shooting the skiff scene using blue screen was a massive mistake. It looks more dated than most of the effects in the 2 films that came before it.

The Speeder Bike chase sequence hasn't aged too well, either. The blue screen work isn't very convincing. The miniature shots of the Biker Scouts on their bikes - and the high-speed POV shots of the trees, however, are still very impressive, imo.

Also, the locations used for the previous two films looked more otherworldly than the State Park used as Endor.

I can understand the speeder bike chase being blue screen because of its fast pace, weirdly that doesn't take me out of the film too much like the skiff scene does though. To my mind they could have shot the skiff scenes on location because its so slow moving.

BTW when I saw Jedi at ten years old Endor was other wordly to me, I'd never see that place before.

They tried to do ROTJ on the cheap in a lot of places and it really shows, IMO.

I wonder if that could be re-composited digitally today to look better. The Rancor was greatly improved this way.

Even the skiff and speeder bikes are better than they used to be in the most recent 4K release. I just watched Jedi over the weekend and the skiff does standout as green screen.

Thinking out loud here. How else would the skiff have been filmed if not blue screen? Some sort of flatbed truck with the actors in a skiff prop in a flatbed trailer along with the lights, and camera crew on it driving through the desert at whatever speed is needed to get the amount of background movement we see in the movie?

Once the actors are on the skiff and sailbarge set it looks fantastic.

Yeah, in case people haven't watched the OOT in a while....most of the Star Wars films had major matte lines/bule screen evidence like this skiff scene. These were, for the most part, resolved during the Special Edition (or subsequent) re-releases, etc.

When my screen loaded it was the words, "Carrie is so beauty on this pic." and then the top half of the Weequay maquette. Gave me a chuckle.

I wonder how that was for Peter Mayhew. Imagine wearing the whole Chewbacca suit while running outdoors and also carrying Threepio on your back.
