Lit Common EU Fan Errors

What are some common, or particularly annoying, fan errors that you've come across?

Some off the top of my head:

* calling the Centrists of Claudia Gray"s book "Centralists"

* for the same book, calling it "Bloodlines" instead of its proper title "Bloodline", there is no "S""!

* thinking Vergere believed in the Potentium. She didn't!

* not strictly EU, but thinking Vader destroyed Alderaan. Umm, no!

What are some common, or particularly annoying, fan errors that you've encountered?

 

Bothan spies were responsible for stealing the first Death Star plans. I've lost count of hearing about that one (even Pablo Hidalgo seems annoyed to remind people of it).

 

From what I've noticed pretty much everywhere Kyle Katarn is discussed on the internet, the Moldy Crow is mentioned as the only ship he and Jan ever used. The Raven's claw deserves love too!

 

It was funny while watching the Rogue One trailers off of youtube (and while looking at the comments below) how often people would make the Bothan comment.

 

Using an upper case "D" and "S" when writing out "the dark side".

It's entirely lower case, people. Has been for years, now! Possibly decades. I forget.

 

Right? I mean, the only guy who ever capitalized the term was Michael Allen Horne - like TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO.

 

And J. K. Rowling, but she wasn't writing Star Wars at the time

 

Let me think-hmmm the potentium and Vergere has been already mentioned, I can't think of any legends misconceptions in particular

 

People thinking that JJ and Kasdan were ripping off the EU by having Han and Leia's son fall to the dark side, not realizing that it's one of the most obvious storylines to use whether you've read the old EU or not.

 

A lot people belive Jacen has murdered Mara, actually it was self defense.

 

its also the fact he is named ben. lets be honest they will cherry pick what they like from the old eu and pass them off as there own new brilliant ideas

 

So much then for treating the old EU fans with any decency.

 

My mistake I will deem myself to correct it in future lists.

 

Apparently Harrison Ford chose the name.

Might be related to his son being called Ben Ford.

Disney/LFL never were and are not now under any obligation to treat Legends fans with the kind of "decency" you seem to think they're entitled to - which, by the way, they're not entitled to.

 

Thinking Lucas hates or is completely ambivalent about the EU. No one who hates or is entirely ambivalent about something would keep going back to it to get ideas. Heck Stan Lee doesn't read every spinoff of his own creations. Just because Lucas didn't worship it 24/7 like we do doesn't mean he hates it. Except for that one Mara vid.

 

Liking TFA.

 

"Thinking Vader destroyed Alderaan" was already mentioned, but that's one of my pet peeves.

People thinking that the Stormtroopers are all clones. (They have different voices in the OT. And even if you're not familiar with the lore, it shouldn't be much of a stretch to think an evil Empire would want to make their army a little bigger and recruit people born the old fashioned way).

Also, there's a fan theory that Boba Fett killed Owen and Beru, and that's where "No disintigrations" comes from. (As if Darth Vader building C3PO wasn't enough of a coincidence).

Which would be fine if people just kept in in Ridiculous Fan Theory territory, but some people seem to accept it as canon and even think it was a deleted scene. (Despite Boba being just a twinkle in Lucas's eye when ANH was made).

Calling it the Extended Universe.

 

I am gonna go out on a limb and say he was making a joke. Don't know why just a hunch.

 

Calling Anakin "Luke". Someone actually said to me, "I saw the one where Luke becomes Darth Vader."

 

It's hardly mind-blowing that when you make any remark about TFA that even happens to seem negative, not one-trillionth of a second passes before someone goes, "Well, that's just your opinion, maaaaan.", as if it's some kind of earth-shattering, revolutionary idea. Not to mention the sheer amount of condescension that is being applied when someone assumes that you believe that your opinion is fact...for some reason.

It's like you have to preface every opinion you voice with the words "In my opinion".
