I don't think that I have the money, at least for a while. I also don't think that I'll be able to get the Labyrinth of Evil.

Well, I just watched the mini again this weekend. Still as fun as always. However, the presentation may differ depending on whether you're in Region 1 or Region 2. Region 1's DVD has been cut from a two-part miniseries into a 3-hour movie, and it's two-disks. Disk 1 has the movie, disk 2 has the special features, which are sorely lacking in region 1; they have a great 30-minute 'The Battle Behind the Wars' which chronicles the making of the miniseries, with some truly hilarious moments (particularly with Anthony Simcoe, AKA D'Argo). There's also some storyboards, prop and spaceship galleries, and some other assorted goodies, but not much else.

On the other hand, Region 2 is different. I don't know about the presentation of the 'movie,' whether it's still 2-parts or just one long film (as it was initially filmed anyway, just as an aside), but they get deleted scenes, interviews with all the stars and head crew members, and a slightly longer documentary.

This is one of those cases where I really wish I had a DVD-player that I could make region-free, but alas, mine dudn't work like that. :p In the meanwhile, I blame Lion's Gate for screwing up the American release, but I'm still gonna buy it. And I'm still happy.

    Why?

Because Peacekeeper Wars is the #1 seller today on deepdiscountdvd.com, man. Power to the people!

Ah, stupid grins are fun. :p

The entire miniseries is three hours long. Battlestar Galactica and Earthsea were also both three hours, and it's four with the commercials.

No, no, no...what I meant isn't that the length was shortened, just that they edited it into one long movie, rather than split it up with a selection for 'part 1' and 'part 2' on the DVD itself, as it originally aired. And that's not the part that bothers me, it's really Lion's Gate getting cheap on the extras. But that is an argument for another time.

...in the meanwhile, just sent off my letter to the local tribune station asking them to pickup Farscape in syndication at the NATPE show in a couple'a weeks. Here's hopin' they take the bait. :p

SciFi has always done that with their DVDs. As well as skimping on the extras. I think that Taken just got a couple of features on one disc, Battlestar Galactica had some deleted scenes and a Lowdown, Children of Dune got a special effects thingy...

Actually, the US seems to frequently get screwed at Farscape DVD's since different companies do them for those regions- they had boxsets all at once, IIRC, instead of volumes-then-boxsets, plus better extras.

Naturally, you Ukers will have to post descriptions of those deleted scenes ASAP.

    Synopsis:
This is the conclusion to the TV series Farscape which ran from 1999 to 2003. Despite being cancelled, this finale was aired as a mini series to wrap things up. The following is from the DVD cover:

"Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars continues the adventures of astronaut John Crichton and his intergalactic comrades. Newly engaged and expectant parents John Crichton (Ben Browder) and Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) have been chased around the galaxy, have fallen in love and now all they want is for their baby to be born and live in peace. However, when a full-scale war is engaged by the evil Scarran Empire, the Peacekeeper Alliance has but one hope -- reassemble human astronaut John Crichton, once sucked into the Peacekeeper galaxy through a wormhole. Crichton's task: Get the entire Peacekeeper race to safety before the last war of era brings an end to the universe."

Farscape ? The Peacekeeper Wars is not rated.

    The Movie:
I have to start out by saying that I never really watched Farscape when it was on the air despite being a big sci-fi buff and a fan of the Jim Henson Company. I saw a couple of the earliest episodes, but I was never able to get into it. But when this DVD arrived I hoped I would be able to follow it just enough to understand what was going on. Unfortunately, I was only partially successful. I was generally able to follow what was happening, but so many aspects of The Peacekeeper Wars relied on you having seen the rest of the series that you had little hope of enjoying it unless you followed the show. That led me to conclude that you really had to be a Farscape fan to thoroughly enjoy this DVD. Otherwise you're probably wasting your time and money viewing it.

Despite the fact that I was only marginally able to follow the plot, I do recognize that this was a first rate production. The alien makeups and props rival those from Star Wars and Star Trek. The sets are absolutely stunning. The computer effects used in the space battles are jaw dropping and quickly pull in Farscape novices like myself. All this makes me realize what a technical and artistic achievement this series was. Too bad the plot wasn't more accessible for people to jump on in the middle of it.

While I loved the vast array of aliens in the show, I found the humans to be a bit of a mixed bag. I didn't care for Ben Browder as John Crichton. He hardly seemed like a NASA astronaut in the film. He came across more as a cocky jock than anything. All his lines seemed to either be yelled or they were sarcastic quips using Earth terminology that no alien could hope to understand. It made him quite overbearing and you had to wonder what Claudia Black as Aeryn Sun saw in him beyond his good looks. Black is good in her role as a retired genetically engineered warrior. She's not drop dead gorgeous like most sci-fi babes, but she is certainly believable. Most of the other humans have tons of makeup piled on them, but they brought the aliens to life.

If you're interested in this DVD, then I highly r

    IJG Reviews Peacekeeper Wars:

Its like all the awesomeness from all four seasons of Farscape rolled into one, minus the crappy stuff. Except for that evil girl being preggers. What the frell was up with that? Recommended to everyone! However, in order to appreciate this masterpiece to its fullest, you must watch all four of the preceding seasons. Not all of which is awesome.

...not having cable for the past 8 years, i had never gotten the chance to see FARSCAPE..

Just recently, i took the plunge and picked up the first 2 seasons of it on DVD.. I'm about midway thru the first season right now and am enjoying it..

What would you guys rank as the best seasons? Worst seasons?

I thought that it was one of the most consistant series to date. Seriously, with small technical things, the first season is almost as good as the last.

I personally loved the third season the most (the dual crew element kept things fresh), though the second half of the fourth season is freaking top-notch work (unfirtunately, the first half of that season is a little more hit and miss).

The second season was pretty solid, though the first couple episodes were a tad shaky.

First season is usually pretty consistant once you get past the first few episodes.

And Peacekeeper Wars is just a grand achievement.

The childbirth-in-the-middle-of-a-firefight was lol, but ouch. No anesthesia. Scary.
    That would frickin hurt.
I'm saving up a ton of money to buy every season on DVD.
SPOILER(not that anyone wouldn't already know this)

I liked Peacekeeper Wars alright but D'Argo shouldn't have died.

Hi! Just wanted to post here and say hello. I've been really active in the Farscape community, but I'm brand new to SW fandom. Well...any fandom really. FS was the first fandom I got into. It's gotten me interested in working my way into other fandoms.

Anyone else here involved with the campaign? I run the Farscape Military Project. :) Anyone here I might know? Even a teeny bit?

Either way, Scapers rock! :D VERY nice to see some here. :D

Wasn't active in the campaign, though I did send a letter (first-class ;) ) to sci-fi when initial word of the cancellation came through, in the erly days of the campaign. ;)

Hey, does anyone know the difference between the original Farscape DVD sets and the new "Sunburst" or "Starburst" or whatever they're called sets?

The Starburst editions are being released by ADV to be 'more accessible' for newbies to the series. They are cheaper in price, packaged more DVDs to a set and include a TON of new special features. Mainly there are a lot of new commentaries by key players. (Ben Browder, Claudia Black...etc.)

This goes well with the fact that Farscape is going to be in syndication in the fall (WGN! YAY!) and will, without a doubt, have a lot of new fans. :)

    Nice to meet you all!
