So, say someone prefers the old EU to the Disney stuff. Are there any Disney novels that don't directly contradict old EU timelines? Novels only, comics not important.

I'm specifically interested in James Luceno's "Tarkin", Paul S. Kemp's "Lords of the Sith", and Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn".

Thrawn contradicts the Legends timeline for Thrawn's promotion.

Ahsoka might fit in Legends. It also provides an explanation for why the Jedi weren't concerned about Maul circa ROTS (they thought Ahsoka was dealing with him).

    No, canon can keep her.

I thought that one might contradict the most. But if it's ONLY when his promotion is that's not so bad.

Thrawn could easily be a Legends book, Mist Encounter is basically the first two chapters so literally nothing about how he joins the Empire is different.

    Tarkin fits reasonably well too.

Can you remember anything specific in Tarkin? That's the one I'm most interested in cause I love the works of James Luceno.

It's been about 2 years since I read it unfortunately, but I really enjoyed it. Luceno is the one I'd always trust the most to slip old elements in.

I've heard it isn't great. But it was written for the EU.

Are you sure? It's the first book after the Disney Star destroy EUderran.

While not a book, I consider the episode of 'Twin Suns' (but not the entire Rebels series!) to be canon to Legends, to give closure to Legends Maul.

Unless I'm missing something, couldn't the novel 'Rogue One: Catalyst' also fit in Legends? (Obviously Rogue One itself would not).

I don't think so, think it would clash with the novel 'Death Star', although I haven't read that in ages.

The Tarkin book and Lords of the Sith are probably the two that stand out to me. They don't delve into anything that may or may not have come before or just manages to dodge things.

The Thrawn book unfortunately completely retcons Thrawn's origin story as it pertains to his imperial service.

There are quite a lot of things about Tarkin that don’t fit into the EU:
*Mas Amedda is Grand Vizier, not Sate Pestage
*The Imperial Palace is a rebuilt Jedi Temple, not the Presidential Palace
*Armand Isard is head of COMPNOR, not Intelligence
*Tarkin does not have a brother and seemingly does not have a wife
*Palpatine allows people he is close with to use his first name - in Legends, he does not ever use his first name

You’re not talking immense issues with integrating them with Legends in broad strokes. Details like does in the Tarkin novel can be accepted as ‘new information in Legends’, as the events themselves do no harm.

Even then, matters such as the date of Thrawn’s promotion were hardly concrete.

It becomes irreconcilable post-Endor to pull things into Legends without moving the dates of events - like they did with the Clone Wars and the knighting of Anakin but with the fall of Coruscant, and of course accepting Han and Leia have a fourth eldest child.

Otherwise Aftermath directly contradicts the X-Wing novels, and Bloodline is set just after the New Republic fell in Legends and so on.

    This is excellent news!

Thanks. I didn't have an interest in the post ROTJ material anyways.

What's this about the knighting of Anakin? I don't remember that being mentioned anywhere except the CW miniseries.

Anakin was knighted thirty months after the Battle of Geonosis in the original Clone Wars timeline.

Then, it was moved to seven weeks after the Battle of Geonosis for the Clone Wars show. Everything set during the Clone Wars is on that basis.

It’s not impossible to reconcile anyway. Assume that the Battle of Jabiim starts before the Battle of Geonosis as a local conflict, Alpha leaves Anakin and Obi-Wan to intervene, and then Anakin and Obi-Wan join for the days of their involvement in conflict shown in the comics.
