SE: EE Project Update!

Hey everyone! Seeing as it's October 1st, I just wanted to give you an update on the progress of Supernatural Encounters. I'm currently completing the Empyrean Wars section, which has been extended to six chapters! It's been a bit of a bear, but worth it! There's a chapter for botanical races, a chapter for aquatic races, a chapter for Sith activities, and much, much more! All of it presents a more thorough picture of what was going on with the many races at war at this time.

Also, there's the vignettes! In the early years of SE, I'd included numerous short shorts, partly to make the annalistic style of this section easier to digest, and partly to tell stories in this era that couldn't be told in the narrative style required to cover numerous events over a span of years. Also, I've always loved the mini short stories that West End Games used to include in their sourcebooks, and thought it would be fun to have that and give readers some breathing room.

In the end, however, I'd cut almost all of them (though a few were restored for the published version). SE had gotten too long and too heavy--or so I believed at the time--and those shorts really needed to be expanded to properly work. So you guys are going to see these vignettes restored and expanded. This is where I really needed your Tuckers, as many of the characters in them hadn't been previously named.

The challenge of restoring any deleted scene is not only in ensuring that the material functions and reads well (which early drafts often don't), but remembering that elements of those scenes often have connective tissue to other parts of the story, which was made a bit harder here because I've been rearranging the chapters to: a) reflect a better chronological sequence, and b) keep the chapters to a certain length. In a work this dense, I feel it's important to not let the chapters get so bloody long, which is something I wasn't able to do previously.

Additionally, when you move things around, make repairs, develop prose, etc., you have to go back through it all again to ensure it all actually functions and flows. And oftentimes, it needs polishing. Those of you who work into the night, as I oftentimes do, know that it's easy to make mistakes. Plus, it sparks other areas in need of work. If any of you are homeowners, you'll understand this because it's kind of like repairing a house. You fix one area, which causes you to see other areas in need of repair, and so on, which can lead to a six-month overhaul of the entire house! But in the end it's worth it because you then have something that is structurally sound, functions as it should, and looks good.

And it does! I'm really pleased with what I'm seeing, and I think you guys will be too! I'll soon be entering the War of Temporal Planes, which is also expanded on with deleted material and gets a bit into the crystal races, their guardians ( one of whom battles Ooradryl and Waru), an interesting bit between the Pelgrin and the Celestials, the offspring of Splendid Ap (which was nearly lost as I couldn't find the material I'd written), the story of Cody Sunn-Childe (I won't yet tell you how it's related), and a lot more! Oh, and those of you who liked the crossovers in the previous version, you're in for a treat as there's a bit more! (Those of you who don't like that, don't worry, they're easy enough to overlook)

"So when it's coming out?" you ask.

"To be determined," I say, as you lift up stones to hurl at me.

"Allow me to explain," I plead.

There are two factors determining the release date:
1. Illustrator Chris Cold is producing masterpieces, and I don't want to rush that. I'm not an artist, but I dabbled in it a little when I was young, so I know it's kind of like a sacred process. And what he's been showing me has left me speechless.

2. That said, I'm grateful for his pace because despite the fact that I'm working on this almost every day (minus this past week in which I had a nasty cold), it's also taking me a lot longer than I naively thought it would, and I'd rather not rush that process either because this is it. There's no later edition coming (unless LFL decides otherwise, but that's out of my hands). So, I want this one to be right!

"But Joe, you said the Fall!" you charge.

"Indeed I did," I acknowledge sheepishly, "and I am still hoping to have this to you before Autumn's end, which is on December 20th."

In the meantime, as you guys are my favorite people in all the world, I'll continue to post snippets and pictures and updates!

I wish he could expand the section on abeloth and explain why luke and leia did not know who she was in fate of the jedi, and explain what the whills are in a way that ties in with what lucas had in mind y

And some closure to open ended stories like NJO: Invasion and other such tales or setups from books that never got anywhere. But this should not be an all in one even if Joe can pull it off. We need more Legends articles and stories to cap that off properly.

Ah, about time that we get a look at the Pool of Knowledge! That is indeed an excellent image. The artist is to be commended. Very appropriate how Abeloth is so serpentine and worm-like, given her parentage. Also makes me think that if further illustrations depict the Ophidian Grotesques that are so strongly hinted at being associated with Abeloth in FOTJ, then they may well resemble some of what is seen in this illustration.

Has anyone read Venom #20 Cause it made the Kyntars of earth work how the chosen ones should work. Meaning that The Hive makes Venom Pregnant with a new spawn everytime a universe changing event happens. this culminated in Dylan Brock Eddie's Son who's part Human part kyntar who is basically Knull's equal
