I've asked this a couple of times before, but does anyone know when the DM fx saber comes out? All I know is that it's sometime this year. Also, I've heard that to get the entire thing you have to pay $200 for 2 separate sabers that can be connected. Is that true?

Yes, it will be sold in two seperate units with a connector piece, so you can make it double bladed. As to when it comes out I think there is a thread on MR upcomming things floating around here somewhere, perhaps that can answer your question.

tentative release date for the Darth Maul FFX saber is 1st Quarter.
MR is known to be late on realeses though so it might change.

There will be 2 packaging options:

1 "damaged" saber with coupler for MSRP $119.00

or buy the full saber(2 halves) with one coupler in a double box set for $199.00 Combined purchase savings of $39

Wonder how hard those things will be to convert to Luxeon. Anyone know how many batteries one half takes?

Maul's saber is the ONLY item I need to complete my outfit (I even have his very rare Frank Thomas boots)! Ive been using both the MR replica & Vader's FX saber during conventions, parties, outings, picture takings... but I cant wait! :D Ive had the $$$ for a year now.. Park's 'Double Helix' saber is nice ( a little pricey) but not my style. Common MR - gimme, gimme!

Yes, when connected the saber will be approx. 8ft. Don't try swinging that around in the house [face_shame_on_you].

Hard to say. I guess you'd have to know how tall Ray Park is first, then scale the saber to how big he is on your T.V. :D

Ray Park is 5'9" but seems shorter than that to most people.
He doesn't seem like he would be a sloucher

Well they shortened the blades on mauls saber in the movie to 30 or 32 inchs from the standard 36" so thats 60-64" JUST blades.

Add on the hilt itself being 24" Looking at 84-88" in total length...so at max 7 to 7 and a half feet....

And thats just the movie prop ;)

When in polearm mode, Darth Maul's saber had 30" blades and a 24" hilt. So 7 feet overall. It was still kinda big for him:

When only one blade was activated, it had the standard length blade:

The MR saber is probably 8 feet long since you get the saber in single-blade form first and then have to couple them together. The single blade is 36", like all the other blades, adding one foot to the actual length.

Actually this photo prety much tells the whole story

    [image=http://www.the-reel-mccoy.com/movies/1999/images/TPM_fight_small.jpg]

Thoes blades go from the floor, to 2 feet above his head and on an angle to boot.

But your comment on the single blade leyngth is valid also. They will either need to make 3 blades, or simply ignore the leyngth difference favoring either the shorter or longer blade.

I knew the blades were shorter since there were two, but I didn't realize that with one blade out it was the normal length. I guess in reality that's because it was easier for the special fx crew... but in fictional terms could that be because of the power source inside the saber?

ok it was 30"...at work so my research stuff and links are at home :) I knew he had a regular length when the saber was cut and when he fought with Qui-Gon...his ever growing saber ;)

I figure as well that MR wanted to accomadate the single blade over the dual blade as well. Also how long is each hilt going to be? Will the coupler make for a longer hilt?

Not a saber I will get but definatly one I wanna see!

I am by no means an expert on this subject, but from what I remember of the books, the leyngth of the blade is a function of the controll crystal, and if I reach deeper, I think that 2 crystals make a variable blade.

With the size of his handel, I think its possible.

yeah thats EU...I don;t think DM's blades were supposed to be noticably differnt. Ray actually requested them 12" shorter because he couldn't swing 8 feet around.

None of thsi phaze chrystal garbage ;) Simply prop issues ;)
