I’m really appreciating the turn this series has taken. It’s not about giving us gratuitous flashbacks and cameos. All these blasts from Vader’s past are meant to slowly awaken Anakin from his long, dark slumber. To rouse the long-dimmed light from Vader’s heart. Each of these encounters are bringing Anakin closer to the surface. So that when the pivotal moment comes again, Anakin will make the right choice at last. Everything that has been happening, from Vader’s defeat at Sidious’s hands, his meeting and sparing of Sabe, to his decision to kill Luke have been leading up to this. Anakin is awakening after twenty years of being smothered in darkness. Light has returns at last and soon enough, the Jedi will Return.
With the news of a second Aphra omnibus for May 2023, collecting v2 #1-25, I'm hoping for a similarly sized volume for this and the main SW series.

Woo, we've finally made it past issue 25 for a Vader series! Spoiler Gotta love a sinister Palpatine ending.
So just read issue 27 and Spoiler How do you all feel about them clearly having Sabe have role in Anakin's redemption. The movies made it look like Luke was the sole reason for him coming back but this comic is clearly changing that a bit. I personally like it because I enjoy expanded material changing things up a bit but I know not all do. So how do you feel about Sabe now having a role in Anakin coming back and that it is now not all Luke?
Spoiler I always had mixed feelings on how Anakin's redemption was handled in Return of the Jedi, so I appreciate how the current comics are helping to better set up where Vader is at during Return of the Jedi and it makes sense that the comics are using someone connected to Padme in order to do so. It's a good way to tie Vader in the original trilogy back to the prequels as well, which is something that I do love about the Vader comics. They do a really good job at referencing the prequels, often through use of flashbacks. It helps to tie everything together.
This series is entirely about moving Vader toward the, for lack of a better word, "softer" version of the character we see in Return of the Jedi, which I appreciate quite a bit. Leaning heavily into the prequels to accomplish it makes all the sense in the world and really does a lot to pull the two versions of the character together.
I always found it a little strange that Vader seemed so much different in RotJ than he did in Empire also. And the only reasoning we had for it was he found out he had a son who he had seen for about an hour his entire life.
I don't know about that, the end of ESB, with Vader not killing the bridge officer and/or Piett sets up RotJ Vader quite well.
That's more because of how distracted he was after having lost Luke. It wasn't a true act of mercy or moment of kindness.
Spoiler Sabe openly calling Vader "Anakin," and Vader presumably being okay with it, is actually a little chilling.
That preview looks very interesting. Vader and Palpatine´s relationship seems to be constantly evolving at this point.
In all fairness, with Ozzel he said "failed him for the last time" I take it you get more than one chance. (Ok, Needa didn't, but I take that as Vader being even more short tempered than usual rather than being the normal and Piett living being an exception)
