Ain't no sunshine when they're gone, except for the Deadpool! Stay away from this thread if you don't like the absurd/ridiculous/macabre nature of this game... . THE rules! Picks will be allowed to be posted from today until January 9th, 12:00pm PST. Why 9+ days? It's an integral number in the baseball/Howard Stern universe, so I like it. Also, nobody who dies within this time period will be counted towards points right away... new for 2023, it'll be the 'Purgatory list', to be revisited at this date a year from now, to see if it affects the final scores. To be fair to any & all playing, everyone gets 11-picks. NO PM's; much easier to track & compile results by going through the first few pages of this thread. The criteria is simple: any celebrity/well-known human that's 18+ (obscurity is welcome, of course, but that person's got to be some sort of a known figure) and/or famous animal in the vein of Harambe, or P22 (a tracked mountain lion that had lived out here in L.A.). No JCer's, obviously. Points & multipliers! Base points for age groups are as follows: 18-30... 100-points 31-40... 90-points 41-50... 80 points 51-60... 70-points 61-70... 60-points 71-80... 50-points 81-90... 40-points 91+.... 30-points The multipliers! 2x- if two people on your list die within the same calendar day. 3x- if three people on your list with 24-hours of each other. 4x- "the scumbag"... a death that near-universally won't be missed (i.e. Garry Glitter, Putin) 5x- "the massive"... a death, loved or hated aside, that will cause world-wide news for some time to follow (i.e.: Queen Elizabeth, Trump). 10x- "the irony"... a death that's related to the person's career/work (i.e.: Paul Walker dying in a crash crash back in '13 type of thing). 15x- "the bittersweet"... someone 80+ (open to debate, I suppose) who clearly has had a good run at it, but nonetheless, it's a sad thing (i.e.: Vin Scully). 50x... "the exact"... a death that occurs on a person's birthday. 100x... "the absurd"... if multiple people on your list die in the same incident OR are responsible for the other's demise. Yeah, no bittersweet multiplier this time around. And remember, Multipliers aren't mutually exclusive, so depending on circumstance, a particular death or deaths can net you a large amount of points! THE winner will get a 31-days of colors (I like odd numbers). No runner-up prizes.

My second favorite death is of the bittersweet. Can I ask for clarification about how the purgatory list comes into play? Or at least hypothetically would?
Think of it as “spring training”; separate list/points complied (people who die between January 1st-January 9th), only to be added on 12/31/23 to the official totals, if any of the names on the Purgatory list affect who ends up winning in ‘23.

I was wondering the same thing, but it seems not. It's used to potentially determine a winner in case the finals scores are close.
Once again, I will not be playing because I'm too lazy not because it's too macabre. BUT this is still my main source of knowing when random people die so thanks for the thread.
In order of how sad their deaths would be for me, 1 being not at all, actually pretty psyched and 11 being I'll be in the dumps for a couple days. 1. Vladimir Putin 2. Prince Andrew 3. Kanye West 4. Well my plan of hoping for an explosion at the Juno Awards or some sort of Guess Who murder/suicide pact never came to fruition so I'm switching things up this year.
