It's 2022 in much of the world presently, and I'll be a little distracted later tonight (chiefly with the Trail Blazer/Laker game, but perhaps with some other things ), hence why this is going up now. This game/discussion(s) will, clearly, be of the macabre/absurdist humor type; don't mistake that type of sense of humor of being, well, soulless, etc. This will also be done differently than Deadpool's of the past. THE rules! Picks will be allowed to be posted from today until January 8th, 12:00pm PST. Why 9-days? Give enough time for, hopefully, enough people to pick, or amend their choices, and truthfully it's an integral number in the baseball/Howard Stern universe, so I like it. Also, nobody who dies within this time period will be counted towards points. It's the "Sonny Bono rule" from a local talk radio show that does their own version of this year each year (they call theirs 'The Ghoul Pool'). To be fair to any & all playing, everyone gets 11-picks. NO PM's; much easier to track & compile results by going through the first few pages of this thread. The criteria is simple: any celebrity/well-known human that's 18+ (obscurity is welcome, of course, but that person's got to be some sort of a known figure) and/or famous animal in the vein of Harambe, or P22 (a tracked mountain lion that had lived out here in L.A.). No JCer's, obviously. Points & multipliers! Base points for age groups are as follows: 18-30... 100-points 31-40... 90-points 41-50... 80 points 51-60... 70-points 61-70... 60-points 71-80... 50-points 81-90... 40-points 91+.... 30-points The multipliers! 2x- if two people on your list die within the same calendar day. 3x- if three people on your list with 24-hours of each other. 4x- "the scumbag"... a death that near-universally won't be missed (i.e. Garry Glitter, Putin) 5x- "the massive"... a death, loved or hated aside, that will cause world-wide news for some time to follow (i.e.: Queen Elizabeth, Trump). 10x- "the irony"... a death that's related to the person's career/work (i.e.: Paul Walker dying in a crash crash back in '13 type of thing). 15x- "the bittersweet"... someone 80+ (open to debate, I suppose) who clearly has had a good run at it, but nonetheless, it's a sad thing (i.e.: Vin Scully). 50x... "the exact"... a death that occurs on a person's birthday. 100x... "the absurd"... if multiple people on your list die in the same incident OR are responsible for the other's demise. Multipliers aren't mutually exclusive, so depending on circumstance, a particular death or deaths can net you a large amount of points! The top point-getter will, obviously, have the most time with custom colors and a title (how long for?- to be determined later), but perhaps there'll be colors/titles awarded to first couple of runners up, for a shorter period of time.
Paul McCartney is going to turn 80 next year. Don't kill him before a milestone birthday. People magazine can't handle another last-minute reprint!
I don’t know if Trump’s death qualifies as massive. Scumbag seems pretty appropriate to me. If he dies choking on a hamburger, does that count to irony?
I won’t participate in this mainly because I don’t know enough famous people. But may the best person win. Or is it the worst since your good at predicting death.
I will continue to just keep an eye on this thread for info but not participate in the game..not because it's macabre, but because I'm lazy.
I think you need to specifically make a rule that a COVID denier/anti-vaxxer dying of COVID will not trigger the "ironic" or "absurd" multipliers. We're at the point now where it is so common and widespread that it really can't be considered either of those things anymore. Like when Herman Cain died of COVID after tweeting that it wasn't real and then after his death his Twitter account tweeted that COVID wasn't that fatal . . . sure, I get calling that "ironic" or "absurd." But not anymore.
