Of all the great things about The Right Stuff, Ward's Gus Grissom was definitely one of the greatest.

But he moved like a pregnant yak. :(

It's a shame Remo Williams didn't do better at the box office, it's almost as much fun as Commando.

Jon Bernthal kinda reminds me of Fred Ward. Get Jon Bernthal in a Remo Williams reboot!

Man, Tremors was my absolute favorite movie growing up, and it's still about as perfect a creature feature (and, heck, movie in general) as they come.

    Rest in peace, Fred Ward...

I know I have a copy of "Cast a Deadly Spell" somewhere. It's a supernatural/film noir TV-movie he did for HBO a while back. It co-stars David Warner, Julianne Moore and Clancy Brown, and it is well-worth watching.

Never did see that, but I plan to asap now. It's come across my feed a couple times now since the news of Ward's passing. Noir meets Lovecraftian horror sounds about as up my alley as it gets.

It was way, way more fun than Commando. Commando was the better film; Remo Williams was the more fun film...

Ward was great in the role that they wrote and directed for him. That said, all the surviving astronauts felt that The Right Stuff did a real hatchet job on Gus's reputation; they all said he was a great pilot and astronaut who did nothing wrong. I've always felt a little suspicious about the movie choosing to make a scapegoat out of the one astronaut who had died before the movie was written; it's not exactly a classy move to pick on a guy after he's dead and can't defend himself. Anyway, that's got nothing to do with Ward, who did a great job with the role he was given.

Tom Hanks’ From the Earth to the Moon series goes into that incident specifically to inform the viewer that Grissom did nothing wrong. I remember watching it and thinking this was aimed directly at The Right Stuff for leaving it an open ended question.

There is a time for us to wander

That dude managed to make one theme so good it made a not so great movie win an Oscar for Best Picture. That's skill.

Chariots of Fire is a great theme, but for me it was 1492 that was my first experience with his music, and the first thing I think of when I hear his name.

you can no longer buy a Vangelis online, but you can still get a working CS-80 for less than $100,000 if you happen to have that burning a hole in your pocket.
