I guess in the same way that the female body has ways of "shutting that whole thing down" if it's a "legitimate rape". I sure wonder what these two representatives have in common.

Aside from the absurdity of sending nudes as a biometric:

Roughly 4% of US internet users have been victims of revenge porn, according to a 2016 report from the Data & Society Research Institute. The proportion rises to 10% when dealing with women under the age of 30.

 Wtf, so assuming adults and approx half female population then 5 million women have taken nudes and sent them to their significant other?

I don't think the absurdity only lies in the method itself but also in the fact that they came up with such a bizarre solution to a problem that impacts such a small amount of their user base.

Also, that data is pretty groan-worthy.

It's an interesting opinion piece. I don't think it was derpy. Sad and deeply cynical, but not derpy.

I don't have a problem with it, but the simple hypocrisy is obvious, I guess. Imagine a white person having a discussion with their children about whether they can truly be friends with black people. It's a simplistic comparison that doesn't take in the whole reality of why, but there it is.

Maybe we don't get to be true friends with black people, after what we've done. Something to think about, despite the apparent hypocrisy.

I was going to say the same thing in the cultural appropriation thread. Maybe we don't get to destroy entire peoples and then dress up like them for Halloween. Maybe that's a consequence of our behavior.

It's like Anakin and Obi-Wan, right? No, Anakin, you don't get to destroy the entire Jedi Order and stay best friends with Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi.

It's just so deeply cynical to think the people you share a beer with just don't care about your well-being at all (based on your skin color), or have some desire to create, maintain or wield power over you, that is racially motivated or accepted because of race.

This was a great comment, though, one that had been in the back of my mind the whole time, but was never able to grasp so clearly and simply.

The hypocrisy in all of us sympathizing with and crying for white working class Americans while minorities have been experiencing the same thing for...well, forever, in this country.

I've found that black people have a way of recognizing these hypocrisies that are right in front of us, while white people have a difficult time seeing them clearly. It's a difference in experience. Of course black people can see it, they've seen it so many times before.

I know this is not the context in which it was meant, but a lot of white people found and still find this very disorienting and heartbreaking. Disillusioning. It's a different experience, a different awakening, but it's there. It's not like we were all fine with this when it happened.

Again, imagine if this was a white person saying this about black people. It's sad that he doesn't actually seem to make a distinction between white people and white people who voted for Trump.

I want to say that you can trust a lot of white people, that we're not all dangerous, but ultimately, I can't take it personally. Trust me or don't, I can't really do much about it, other than continue to be a person I think black people can trust.

He's dead on, isn't he? We've seen this from Trump supporters many, many times right here in this forum.

Again, I think he's got a great point. You think we can be friends after you voted for Trump? You think your little gesture somehow counteracts the betrayal? No, we cannot be friends. It's what people refer to as deal-breaker.

    I understand it completely.

We've seen a bit of this, too.

Say what you want but the guy is capturing behavior that has happened here on this forum.

Not seeing anything to disagree with.

This is deeply cynical, but...Trump is president. This is a deeply cynical world.

Indeed. We can disagree on taxes and other similar issues, but there's no room for civil disagreement when it comes to the value of human beings.

The title sounds really bad, but there's some good points in it. It's certainly provoking and challenging, in a good way. Thank you for posting it, ultimately I got a lot of good use out of it.

The fact that you didn't immediately realize how mindnumbingly ludicrous this comparison was the moment you thought of it astounds me. I mean, at least you posted it in the right place.

Thanks for the response. I thought it a bit much to include a freakin prequel reference, but I included it anyway because I thought it might help Star Wars fans relate to it on a personal level.

Anakin wiped out the Jedi Order, including the children. He doesn't still get to be friends with Obi-Wan, despite maybe wanting to be. He doesn't get to pretend it didn't happen. The same goes for Padme. There's no happily ever after with her after what he did. He doesn't get to have the best of both worlds.

White people largely wiped out the native peoples of America, including the children.

White people are really, really averse to the idea of having to give up dressing up like people they've brutalized. They want that privilege. They don't seem to recognize the problem with it. They think it's innocent, as if white people can playfully dress up as people who have been slaughtered wholesale by white people. They want to ignore history and pretend it didn't happen and that we should get along perfectly anyway. That it should be fine. Well, I'm saying maybe they should wake up and realize there's no happily ever after, after what we've done. At least not yet, not now.

Maybe it's super insulting to adopt black culture, black music and black style because it's cool, while devaluing and marginalizing actual black people at the same time.

Maybe we don't get to have our white privilege and truly be friends with black people.

Maybe we don't get to elect Trump and still go, "but we're still friends, right?" I've addressed this idea already in my response above, disagreeing with the generalization and lumping together.

But I guess you really got me on including one line of Star Wars in my response in this thread.

I didn't find anything to disagree with in that piece. In fact, it was so excellent and so eloquently put that I bookmarked it.

"White people are really, really averse to the idea of having to give up dressing up like people they've brutalized."

Bannon bragged about using generalizations like this to get Trump elected. White people today did not slaughter native Americans. So when people needle them about dressing up as such they do things like vote for Trump when they might not have otherwise. I listen to right wing media. They love when democrats bring up race for any reason so they can get on the radio and tell people "they are accusing you of doing something you didn't do." And it works. And it worked.

OOPS! Another anti-gay family values Republican got caught being gay

    Edit: There's more!

The new Starbuck's cup is promoting the anti-Christian gay agenda. Because two people who may be lesbians are holding hands.

Edit 2: Ok one more. Here is Bakker telling you The End In Nigh if you don't buy his $60 bucket of pancake mix, complete with baby holding.

Red herring after red herring in that one. Somehow Franken's bad joke, Clinton's extramarital affair with another adult..and even JFK caught having an affair with a consenting 19 year old, all of these mean are supposed to mean Moore is off the hook for chasing 14 year olds?

Because a man in his 30's hitting on 14 year old girls is totally the same thing as the right to an abortion

STEPHEN MOORE: I think Judge Roy Moore is kind of a creep and I think these are obviously very serious allegations against him. But I also think that it is appropriate for the people of Alabama to make this decision. This election is almost a jury of his peers, to indicate whether the people of Alabama want this man to represent them. By the way, the Democrat is no saint either. The Democratic candidate is for partial-birth abortion in a state that's highly Christian and Catholic. So there's no moral high ground here between the two candidates.
JOHN BERMAN (GUEST HOST): Except that one is an alleged child molester.
