This one was irresistible to write after last night.

Title: Diary of a Coruscant firefighter
    Author: Earlybird-obi-wan
    Timeframe: CLW -
    Characters: Luciano Robi
    Genre:
    Keywords:
Summary: I am a firefighter and this is my diary, taken from actual events
Disclaimer: Star Wars = George Lucas.

Entry 1 first shift at the Jeditemple

Hi, I am Luciano Robi, my mates call me Rob for short and I am a firefighter of the Coruscant firedept.
Today I am starting my shift at the Jeditemple
    I am preparing my gear
    Coat check
    Trousers check
    Helmet check
    Boots check
    Gloves check
    Comlink check

Beeep Beeep Beep, back in a minute diary

I have just come back from my first incident at the temple.
    It was in the archives
One Jedi had spilled some juice on the mainframe of the archives, setting it on fire and filling the room with smoke.
I managed to put a breathmask on him and gave him to the medic of our team. The fire had suffocated itself.
An archivist was muttering about a Kenobi being a walking-archive-disaster.

    Beeep Beeep Beep.

Entry 2 end of first shift

That fire-alarm was an automatic alert in one of the living quarters. We arrived at the quarters of Yoda and my chief opened the door with his all-doors key.
A cooking-pan with some kind of stew sat on the stove and from the looks of it had been there for a while. It was smoking and I put a lid on it and turned the gas of.
My chief remarked ?Smells good, this must be the famous Yoda-stew, all padawans are so fond of.?

End of entry and next entry will follow on the day I am with the shift for the Jeditemple again.

    Nex entry

    Entry 3
Yesterday I wrote that the next entry will be when I am on duty at the Jeditemple.
Today I make an exception because I had a conversation with my father.
My father lives in the nice resort-village of Alladea on Alderaan
My father is the firechief of the Alladea-firedept and he told me a story of a Jedi who rescued an elderly woman from a truck and got pinned down under this truck. He was in charge that day of the rescue-operation and the next day he went to the hospital to inform about the patients.
The Jedi was ok but the woman died.
The Jedi sensed my fathers anguish at that message and helped the team cope with their feelings like no one else could.
My father said ?Obi-Wan is my hero.?
In two days time my shift at the Jeditemple begins and I hope I will meet this Obi-Wan.
I want to know more about Jedi and their way of life.

    ps
And I want to know how this Yoda makes such nice stew.

    New entry

    Entry 4
Today is my second day that my shift is serving at the Jeditemple.
I have asked my chief to put me on the list for the Jeditemple-shift for the next six weeks telling him about the story of my father and me wanting to know more of the Jedi.
The chief said to me that he would grant me my wish because others find the Jeditemple-shift boring, as most of the time, nothing at all happens during a shift.
My first shift had been the exception to that rule.
As I am still studying to become a firechief like my father, I don?t mind boring shifts. At shifts like these you get more training-exercises.
After our duty of cleaning and checking the gear we had our first break of the day.
The chief said a Jedi was coming to thank us.
A Jedi in a hoverchair came to us this day and he thanked us. He introduced himself as master Kenobi.
I told him the story of my father meeting an Obi-Wan many years ago.
Obi-Wan said with a tear in his eyes that he was that man who could bring so much comfort.
I told him of my wish to know more of the Jedi and he said ? as he was on templeduty for the next weeks ? he would visit me each day when my shift was at the temple.
My chief asked him about his injuries and he said he was in a hoverchair because he had blisters on his feet from an aggressive swampgas and water in his boots.
I told him I recognised this because I had on on of my shifts as a Coruscant firefighter a similar experience five years ago. A very large factory-fire and standing for hours in knee-deep water, brings blisters to your feet and four weeks of inactivity and on the sick-list afterwards.
I asked him about the stew, and with a sour face, he promised to bring some.

Next entry Obi-Wan doesn't like stew but firefighters do.
Note I ate green-pea soup during a cold night fighting a big fire and it was delicious.

    Entry 5
A day of training and we could use one of the old Jedifighters for rescuework.
A dummy was placed inside and a smokemachine.
We entered the Crashtruck and were told that a fighter had crashed on the platform with a victim still inside.
The ?fire?was extinquished and we were stabilising the wreck. Jaws of life were used to cut the fighter open and the victim was rescued.
Our performance was reviewed by the chief.

Obi-Wan came at lunch-hour, holding a pot of Yoda?s stew.
One of my mates put six dishes on the table and soon we were eating until not a tiny morsel was left. It was delicious.
?This is delicious, just like the green-pea-soup my mother made at home on Alderaan.? I said ?There is one ingredient missing though, sausages. Can we get the recipe??
Obi-Wan said that Yoda didn?t like sausages and that he would ask for the recipe.
He also made a face that he didn?t like it.
I will ask master Yoda about that.

Note: last week we had a storm and we had to secure a houseboat which was drifting in the chanel

    Entry 6
This morning it stormed on Coruscant. We had a rescue-alarm and went to the roof of the Jeditemple.
Some plating had come loose and we secured it. An accident nearly happened and had we been elswhere on Coruscant my mate would have died.
He was standing near one of the loose plates fixing it when a plate from high up another roof came sailing down. One of the Jedi who had alerted us and had shown the way saw this.
He held the plate in the air until my mate could scramble away.
Whew, what kind of force was he using?

Yoda came at the beginning of our shift-break at noontime and was bringing a pot of his stew.
Together we had lunch and we got his recipe. The main ingredients were vegetables and green peas. I asked him why Obi-Wan didn?t like his stew and Yoda explained that Obi-Wan had always called green peas ?Little-green-monsters.? He was Qui-Gon?s padawan and he had to eat them after his master had discovered he was feeding them to the cat.
We asked him about the weapon of a Jedi and he demonstrated his lightsaber and giving us a lecture about it. Next he invited us to a training of Jedi-initiates.
    Watching lightsabertraining was fun.
Obi-Wan was sitting in his hoverchair and telling little 4 and 5 year olds how to hold their lightsabers

To all my readers thanks=D=[face_dancing] and here is the next one

    Entry 7
Watching two Jedimasters fight was awesome.

I had been away for two shifts of the firedept and had been on a trip to Anaxes. I was competing in the recreational Anaxes-beach run and finished it. It was stormy weather and waves were flooding the beach and occasionally my feet, but I made it, the whole 21 K long.
My next shift was of course the Jeditemple-firedept and it was a day-only shift.
A new firefighter Ona-Omallie - a rookie ? had his first shift with us and we served him Yoda?s stew for lunch. He loved it and asked for the recipe to give to his mother.

That afternoon we were returning from an exercise in one of the trainingrooms when we passed the trainingroom of the initiates.
Master Obi-Wan was back to health again and he was fighting with master Yoda.
Yoda was flying, jumping and whirling his lightsaber around in a vicious attack-style. It was a dance of blue and green, clashing and parrying, but friendly as no real hits were scored.
Yoda was using every obstacle to jump and he flew sky-high.
Obi-Wan was at the beginning making small moves but as the fight progressed, he became more agile and started to use the obstacles too.
After the fight the two friends bowed in respect to each other and the initiates started applauding the great performance, joined by the entire firedept.
The rookie said to master Yoda that he loved his stew and Obi-Wan made a face.
Obi-Wan said that he liked the specials of Dexters diner and that he would have diner with the initates and Yoda at Dex?s dinner.

That evening we joined the Jedi at Dex?s diner and had the special. Most of our shift ordered another special. Yoda said that the Jedi would grow big and fat from it.
Maybe Jedi do but we are firefighters and we need a lot of energy for our job.

Next entry is taken from actual events as last thursday a great storm was coursing through Europe

    Entry 8
    A remarkable shift.
Still filled with Dex?s special my pager went off. I called the firedept and the dispatcher said that all leaves for tomorrow were cancelled. Get a good night sleep and report for duty at your station. For me that means the Jeditemple.
When I arrived the chief told us of the weather-control system having trouble and usually that means work for us. What we didn?t expect was the amount of work.

Man, it stormed like never before, the whole weather-control system of Coruscant had gone whacko.

Gust-winds of 130 k/h and more were measured and an ornament from one of the temple-towers
came sailing down. We had to secure it before it could do more damage.

All firedepts were doing overtime and on all holochanels a weather-alarm was broadcast.
Stay inside was the advise and many travellers were stranded and had to spend the night in crowded shoppingmalls.
Pharmacies were having a great day selling more toothbrushes in a day than normal for a month.
The Coruscant Exhibition Centre was set up as a refugee-centre with beds filling the halls.

In the Jeditemple area we had to secure a statue and one of the Jedi helped us. Great, having Force-power. That could save us a lot of work.

Another statue crashed on a parked speeder with people still inside and we had to rescue them. Airbags protected them from harm and we led them inside the temple.
Air-traffic had come to a standstill and people stranded near the temple were evacuated inside.
The Jedi filled the great halls with stretchers and were supplying them with meals.
Master Yoda had made his famous stew and many of the refugees liked it.

In the evening the storm abated for an hour and we got less work to do. Our chief told us of a storm 17 years ago. Even bigger than this storm and his shift lost 3 men due to a backdraft in a Hotel-fire. And during the storm from 4,5 years ago we had to rescue 800 beings from the public transport when it came to a stop due to a powershortage.

Two more alerts followed: one in the temple-kitchen and one from a loose deckplating.

That night a snore-choir was heard in the great hall of the Jeditemple.

After a restless night ? three alerts for damage due to the storm - we had a debriefing at the firedept of the temple.
My chief said that 7 beings died in the area surrounding the temple.
The cost to repair the damage would be at least 200-billion credits.
He thanked us for our work during this storm.
My chief said ?Take some time off because tomorrow you will be on duty at the temple. One of your mates has sprained his ankle.?
I went to the exit and as I was walking through the great hall a voice greeted me
?Hi Luciano, what are you doing here??
I said ?Boyd Vienar, I am serving with the Coruscant firedept and have my shifts at the Jeditemple. I thought you were a police-sergeant on Alladea?
Boyd explained that he had become a personal detective of the supreme chancellor Palpatine after some promotions on Alderaan thanks to my father. He had assisted in the rescue of a Jedi and I told him of my adventures with this same Jedi.
It is a small world after all.
Boyd Vienar is a friend of mine since we were toddlers and it pleased me enormously to see him on Coruscant.
We agreed to meet as soon as possible.

Training hour for us and we went to one of the training-rooms in the Jeditemple. The room next to our room was occupied by Jedi-initiates trained by Master Cin Drallig. He was teaching basic lightsaber-moves.
We had B.A.-training for large rooms.
In a large room you have the use of a large coil of rope with knots at intervals. You tie one end of the rope at the point of entrance and uncoiling it as you walk, you are guided by the knots: one two going in and two one going out. The knots are guiding you like an arrow.
The room was absolutely dark and only some hissing was heard. We were searching a leaking gas-cylinder.
Our instructor could see every move we made because of night-vision-goggles.

After our training the initiates wanted to know everything of our equipment and some got dressed as firefighters. They asked what equipment was used to fight fires.
Master Cin Drallig said we could use the swimming-pool area for some demonstrations of that.
Soon every initiate was able to use a firehose and it became a waterfight, with everybody dripping wet.
That evening we had an exercise in the hangar and saw Obi-Wan taking off in a Jedistarfighter.

The duty-shift for today was: Chief Josh Harrar, 1 Kek Carel, 2 Luciano Robi, 3 Mick Miggels and 4 Ona-Omallie - the rookie. Hrrwrar was our engineer and Selia our medic.

    This day something happened.

A Jedistarfighter was on an erratic approach to the landingpad of the temple and we were put on standby alert. That means: Crashtruck, crashgear and all six of us wearing breathing-gear.
The starfighter skidded out of control on the landingpad turning 180 degrees and was a burning smoking wreck.
A dark-clad Jedi was even faster than us and jumped on the wing and opened the cockpit. Mace Windu followed. Some talk of being alive and an antidote.
Mace Windu said he could hold the flames back for a few seconds more with the Force and we did a grab and run rescue, meaning get the victim out of the wreck as soon as possible.
We carried the unconscious Jedi to a safe place and put him on a waiting gravstretcher.
Our medic took care of him instantly.
The crashtruck doused the flames with a thick blanket of foam.

The medic said giving his stat to the Jedi-healer who had arrived on the run:
Broken ribs, burns on large parts of his body, blaster wounds to his right arm and hand, left lower arm broken in many places, severe dehydration.
As the Jedi-healers were passing us with the patient I got a better look at him.
Oh no, it is Obi-Wan again and this time he is in bad shape.

    [link=http://boards.theforce.net/Message.aspx?topic=25774755&brd=10476]Escape from Queyta[/link]

    Entry 12
My new shift began with a debriefing. The rescue of the Jedi was evaluated. Chief Josh Harrar said that had it been any other place than the Jeditemple and had Mace Windu not been at the scene, the Jedi would have perished in the flames.

One of the Jedi-healers, a master Aaqu, came in and told us of the injuries the Jedi had sustained. Burns were treated with a stay in the Bactatank for six hours. Blaster-wounds to his right arm and hand were still infected.
Obi-Wan had surgery to his left arm and no we didn?t aggravate that injury by pulling him out of the fighter in our grab and run rescue. It was already in a bad shape from Force knows what, master Aaqu told us and when Obi-Wan regained consciousness he would certainly ask him about that.

Mace Windu came in and we thanked him for his ?fire-suppressing-technique? that enabled us to rescue Obi-Wan and Ona Omallie asked him if he could learn this too.
Mace Windu explained that all species with Jedi-powers were born with the Force already present and that it took the Jeditemple and its masters to develop it. Jedi-initiates were found and brought to the temple at a very early age.
Ona Omallie said that he wanted to know more about Jedi and Mace Windu promised him he would visit us next shift.

This one is taken from real life last week.

    Entry 13

Mace Windu came to us and told us some of the Jedi-customs. He just started to explain the various forms of lightsaber-fighting when our pagers went off.

Donning our gear we ran to the hover-unit with our fire-fighting equipment.

Chief Harrar said it was a few rooms away from our department and off we went.

We had a fire in one of the teaching-rooms. The fire had started in a holoviewer and thanks to the automatic fire-alarm we were at the scene in minutes. The fire was doused with a high-pressure hose and there was extensive damage from soot and smoke. The fire had been a hot one as equipment had melted and had we been on scene two minutes later, it had become a backdraft.

Backdrafts are some of the most dangerous things you can encounter as a firefighter. You can see the telltale signs of an imminent backdraft: dirty brownish-black smoke, whistling sounds and almost no flames.

Some little Jedi came to see our work and one said ?No more classes for today.?

Master Yoda said ?Yes lessons we have, go to the room of a thousand fountains we will, last lesson will be in the swimming-pool.?

Our chief said that afternoon? The swimming-pool, a nice idea for our lesson too. You will need full equipment and lifevests.?

When we entered the swimming-pool room clad in our gear: Helmet, jacket, trousers, boots, gloves, B.A. and lifevest, some of the little Jedi began to giggle.

One of them said ?Master Yoda will have to rescue them, they will sink to the bottom.?

Master Yoda said ?watch first before rescue I do.?

We went in at the deep end of the pool and soon the six of us were floating as the lifevests were doing their job. To get to the side of the pool was a bit of work but the little Jedi soon found it fun to push us around in the pool and helped us to the shallow end.

We shed our gear and the lesson ended in a water-fight: Jedi against firefighters.

    Entry 14

My six weeks of Jeditemple firedept duty are over.

A few days ago another shift had a messy job in the archives: retrieving a dead woman and bring her to the coroner.

They told us of a very agitated archivist and a biggest-art-disaster alive, being a Jedi by the name of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I started to giggle and told them of my adventures with this Jedi.

Of the delicious stew he disliked so much and his muttering of ?little green monsters? and of his great lightsaber-demonstration after he had recovered from the wounds on his feet.

Today the chief asked if I wanted to become a medic as our medic was being promoted.

I have some medical background and that?s why he was considering me for the training.

I agreed and this means: back to school for a long time.

Today one of the Jedi-cooks left a pot of oil too long on a heater and the automatic fire-alert sent us to the scene. We saw a kitchen covered in greasy oil stains and the Jedi-cook had already put out the fire by use of the Force.

When do we get them on the fire and rescue squad?
