Before - Legends Diary of a Space Pirate - 2008 Diary Challenge - Pre-TPM - 2nd Entry Finally Up! 2/9

Author's Notes: This is my first time trying an actual 'voice' for a character, so if it's too hard to understand I'll either add a translation or omit the voice. As always, criticism and suggestions are welcome! Updates will (hopefully) be roughly every two weeks.

Legen? has it that thar?s a treasure large enough to buy the Hapes Consort?m hidd?n some?ere within this cursed galaxy. The Capt?n?s fixin? to find it. Says we?ve plundered enough people, an? could live better with it. Said he?s tired of pilferin? an? livin? like a wretch?d urchin.

Tarod, the first mate, didn?t like that much. Said ?We were pirates, an? that?s what we do.?

Well let?s jus? say he?s now ?bout as dead as Exar Kun an?s floatin? in the locker. Capt?n was might? unhappy with that one. After a vibroblade through the heart, we spaced him. Everyone?s moved up ranks, e?en lil Dray is no long?r the cabin boy. Capt?n moved up anot?er good slave for that spot.

I?s the Overseer, the one to look after the hands as they clean?d the ship. Now, now I the helmsman. If Lleit opens his large maw as big as Tarod did, I?ll be first mate soon. Sure do hope I last long?r than Tarod did.

Me name is Kelok an? I fly the ship now. I?ll be keepin? this log to help the Capt?n find this treasure. I?ll follow him ?til the end or be shot by these bloody cannons.

Not hard to understand at all. The tricky part about 'voices' is being consistent, but you're off to a great start. And everyone's moved up a rank, eh? I can hear Benny telling O'Connell, 'You've just been promoted.'

Entry 2

Capt?n had me dock in the pla?form on Manaan. Said he found a contac? to find clues to the treasure. Him an? Lleit went to the cantina to meet him. Left the quartermaster, Rydan, in charge. Rydan wants me to keep a stead? eye on the sky to make certain no unwan?ed com?any shows.

That?s what I?m doin? but I fig?red thar weren?t no harm in writin? a entry while I wait. I only hope that Rydan doesn?t come in an? catch me.

Lil? Dray jus? gave me a scare. He walk in all silen? an? tapp?d me on me shoulder. I thought for sure I?s dead! I kep? waitin? for the feel of a vibroblade through the shoulders, but it never did came. When I open?d my eyes to see lil? Dray standin? thar rather than Rydan, I prayed to every god I?d e?er heard of ? an? some I hadn?t. Ya see the quartermaster has a highar authority than e?en the first mate does. He e?en has the same le?el as the Capt?n does, ?specially when the Capt?n is away. He don?t have the same le?el when we?re searchin? for treasure or in battle, though.

Well, lil? Dray look?d at me as though I had grown a third eye. When I ask him what he wants, he tells me he wants a story. So I took the lil? mite up on me knee and told him the ancient story of Savey James and Capt?n Sorrow and a ship called the Block Quarrel ? or at least I think that?s thar names. Oh well, it?s so old no one?ll remember anyway.

He seemed might? happy to hear it an? rushed to tell the new cabin boy, Renys I think his name is.

Anyway the Capt?n should be back soon. I?ll write more when he re?urns.

Capt?n and Lleit jus? came back with the first clue. It reads:

?Where men in armor once roamed, through the jungles and to the place where ancient bones lie. There in stone is what you next need.?

I wond?r what it means.
