Discussion Did Luke Skywalker take inspiration from Jyn Erso?

    We know that Luke named Rogue Squadron so by ESB he's clearly learned about their sacrifice. Was Luke later inspired by Jyn's sacrifice to sacrifice his own life on Crait?

    Could it be more than inspiration. Stay with me here. Could Jyn's life essence have escaped her body when it was destroyed by the Death Star and then somehow attached itself to the Death Star? Then when the Death Star itself was destroyed could it have found a new symbiotic relationship within Luke Skywalker himself? In a way could Luke Skywalker also be Jyn Erso?

    I don't know if anything that Luke did could be said to be comparable to Jyn's sacrifice, but it seems that he spent his entire life attempting to live up to her example. He wanted to be the hero that she was. Underneath that Jedi tunic, Luke wore a Jyn Erso t-shirt.

    But yeah, he could also be her. It's creepy.

    I'd take it a step further. If her life essence survived even Luke, could she now be one of the creatures on Ahch-To? Or, when Kylo struck Luke's projection, he dislodged Jyn, in which case she'd be on Crait somewhere. Thus, we could have a porg-or-vulptex poll with a whole new dimension.

    Missed opportunity for Jyn Also.

    He must have. Why else would he name his own movie A New HOPE?

    Seems pretty obvious to me, since that's what rebellions are built on and all.

    THe comics are now just getting into this. A character was telling Luke about Jyn in the Ashes of Jedha arc. It seems that he will be forming Rogue Squadron shortly and chances are very good it will say that Rogue One was the inspiration for the name.

    As far as the other stuff regarding Jyn having a strong influence on him decades later that is harder to say. But at least in the immediate years following the first Death Star Jyn definitely was an inspiration for him/

    Jyn was Luke's GF and then they had Rey together. They realized it was important Rey have a childhood like that of her mother, so they got rid of her and left her with a crazy person. Then Luke wiped his memory so that he could be united with her in the way his father was united with him.

    But the reason all this started was because Luke found this Jedi temple that enabled him access to the space time continuum so he was able to pull his heroine from the arms of Cassian right before she would have died. Then he serenaded her with this song, you're the meaning in my life, you're the inspiration.

    @oncafar Puts a new spin on Luke reacting to his naughty nephew making lusty moves on Rey. His pair of pretty eyes were "hungry--and knowing", after all. ;)

    Twincest is one thing, but Fingerin' Cousins is another! We must call Jerry Springer!
