Woohoo...Sola's getting hooked up. I was sitting there going "Wait a minute, she's a mom!" then realized that she was a widow. Great post.

 

I like the expansion into Padme's feelings - I didn't realize how much I missed that from the original until now.

That was the idea. Lots of war & action stuff going on elsewhere. I just figured a little romance never hurt anyone.

Padmé is delightfully complex (as you know ). I also tend to think she works too hard. This little romantic interlude is designed to get her away from all that.

Yup. She just seemed so practical and grounded in AOTC. I?ve always been curious about her and her life. Plus, I figured as the sister of a Queen she wouldn?t be intimidated by Bail and his titles.

In fact, tomorrow he would probably regret ignoring the important dignitaries whose political favor he should even now be currying. At the moment it just didn?t seem to matter. In fact, he couldn?t summon up as much as a shred of remorse. He couldn?t imagine any place else he?d rather be or anyone else he?d rather be with. For the first time in distant memory he was reluctant to let an evening end.

*sigh* Loved the part with Bail and Sola.

 

i don't really have much to say that hasn't already been said: this is great, Rei. You seem to perfectly capture the lighthearted romantic atmosphere and the interactions between Bail and Sola are great. Excellent insight into Senator Amidala's mindframe and psyche, btw.

I'm still waiting for everything to blow up in their face, though.

 

Oh this is wonderful! So far I'm loving every second of it - and nothing would be better than another chapter!

The scene between Padmé and Anakin on the balcony had me breathless. Wow! It was beautifully written.

The Sola/Bail bits were nice too. Too characters who usually hover in the back ground. It's nice to see them get some development - and you do so so very well!

It was tempting to jump the gun and post early, but I managed to convince myself to stick to my schedule.

Dinner Party. Ch. 5. Puzzles.

Sola had been wrestling with herself about the propriety of asking Bail to join her for a drink when he?d given her a reprieve by inviting her to enjoy more of this amazing city-world.

The evening had already been wonderful, more so for the unexpected gift of companionship from the man at her side. He was a Prince, so she was certain he awed most beings he came into contact with. As Naboo nobility and the sister of a former Queen, Sola had been less than impressed by his titles and far more sympathetic to his duties.

Not that he wasn?t impressive. In fact, he was exceptionally handsome, so much so that it left her breathless. He was indeed princely, standing head and shoulders above her, with dark hair, a closely trimmed goatee and eyes as black and sparkling as the night sky.

She had to admit to herself that he?d impressed her on another level as well. Bail Organa was an incredibly good dancer. Until tonight she hadn?t realized how much she?d missed the activity. During their years together at the university she and her husband had been avid dancers. Once they graduated, married and started a family it seemed there just wasn?t much opportunity. Then, when he?d fallen ill?

Sola deliberately pulled her thoughts out of the past. For the first time in a long time she wasn?t feeling like a widow, or Ryoo and Pooja?s mom, or Amidala?s sister, or Ruwee Naberrie?s quiet daughter. She felt?like Sola.

Even more important, tonight she wasn?t lonely and it was this man?s fault. She made a conscious choice to hold on to that feeling as long as possible.

?Senator I would love to see Coruscant by night.? She said, flashing him a smile she hoped wasn?t too bright. This courtship stuff was complicated and she?d been out of circulation over a decade. The last thing she wanted was to appear over-eager or promise more than she would feel comfortable giving.

Judging from Bail?s answering grin, she?d given exactly the right answer.

?Well, then, we should go this way.? He cupped her elbow in a warm hand, gently steering her to the left at the next intersecting corridor. They took a turbolift up several stories before finding themselves in a hallway lined with numerous sets of double doors. Bail stopped before a particularly elaborate set and placed his palm on the security pad. The wooden panels swung inward and he led her inside.

She felt a shiver of apprehension as the doors automatically shut behind them. The area they found themselves in was dark and quiet. Vague outlines of furniture were dimly visible in the starlight that spilled in from a panoramic transparisteel window.

Bail guided her through the shadows, stopping to turn on a small lamp that illuminated a huge wooden desk at the center of the room. It was a soft light, barely pushing at the darkness around it. Still, she could make out that they were in an office, an elaborate one that reminded her of the Throne Room at Theed Palace. Numerous cloth-covered chairs circled the desk, a sure sign that the occupant was used to holding conferences on a regular basis.

Her escort seemed to sense her discomfort and tried to ease the tension.

?This is my office. My home away from Alderaan, as if there could be such a thing.? He gave a wry grin. ?I?m told I have one of the best views in the complex. I?ll just show it to you and then I can take you back to your suite.?

She very much appreciated his sensitivity, along with his subtle reassurance that he had, indeed, only brought her here for the view. Her unease faded and she felt a return to the comfortable camaraderie they?d shared earlier.

?No hurry. I?m enjoying your company and my girls aren?t waiting up for me.? She smiled at the mention of her daughters.

He must?ve noticed. ?Tell m

 

NO! Bad Barriss! Baaaaaaaaaaaaaad dumb Bariss! I love to pieces your Bail/Sola.

 

Another great chapter. I'll have to see the next post before I pass judgment on Bariss.

 

Ferus? OMG! Anakin is going to have convulsions! Loved it! Barriss sounds like a sibling, they love to do stuff like that to each other. YIKES! I can't wait to see what happens next.

Loved the interaction between Sola and Bail. I remember how terrifying it was to date as a single mother. You're making decisions not only for yourself, but for your kids. Scary!

Great job!!! Uh oh... man oh man... I truly hope she realizes once she talks with Ferus that it wasn't him. *Shudders* Ewwwwwwwww juz even imagining of Ferus doing that balcony scene with Padme juz makes me totally ewwww!

Wow, that's certainly a very interesting twist to what I thought would happen! I can't wait to see what happens when Padme tries to remind Ferus what happened, and, of course, Anakin's reaction to everything! Awesome post!

When is the next update?

 

I'm sorry, I meant to post sooner, but I had to make a sudden trip out of state to handle some family matters. I have my files with me and was hoping to finish up the next post, but I haven't had a chance yet to get my act together (we've spent the last 3 days driving).

My laptop is something of an antique with a dial-up modem, but it works pretty well for writing (except for my tendency to type like I'm on a regular keyboard). I'm not going to promise anything datewise, but I'll try to get the next chapter up by the end of the week.

After that, I won't be back to regular updates until the week of the 24th. I'm really sorry about this, especially the short notice, but I didn't realize how quickly I'd have to drop everything.

 

eep, poor thing. We'll be patient.
