Same here! Whatever you think about him, it does seem Chibnall can do good Dalek episodes!

Terrible plot device aside, it was quite good.

Can't really go wrong with Daleks & Jack Harkness.

    But that's why it worked.

I'm not sure the a whole series could maintain that level, as we've seen pretty much since Capaldi's last series

    ****ing awful .
was there one new idea in this show ?
Ryan takes gormless to new depths , and then spends ten minutes saying goodbye like we'd give a **** if we never see him again.

Yes, there were several new ideas in it. Jack's escape device, Daleks in the vortex to name but two.

Daleks in the vortex goes way back.

They were sent there by 10 weren't they?
It's where the Cult of Skaro came from in the capsule.

I don't mind it being samey, I mind lazy plot resolutions like

The Doctor conveniently had another TARDIS available we never knew about and just happened to be able to destroy it and get rid of the Daleks.

If you have a working one all this time, surely you would use it over your dodgy model.

How many more are there sitting around waiting to be used when the plot requires?

    Lazy writing

    That was Jo Martin's TARDIS.

It was the House used throughout the episode, and shown in the last series.

    I really liked it.

So I was actually also literally thinking during the episodes that Who does really well with comedians or comic actors on the TARDIS so I know nothing about John Bishop but I'm optimistic given his background...

Good episode, but by god Chibnall cannot write decent dialogue to save his life.

Also, the bit near the end where the “fam” is group hugging goodbye would’ve meant more if they hadn’t been the dullest, least interesting set of companions I’ve ever seen on the show—especially Ryan. Glad to be seeing the back of him. And was it just me, or did the supposed fam seem very bitter at the Doctor despite the fact she’d been languishing in a space prison for decades?

Anyway, wasn’t expecting to hear Rose or Gwen Cooper name-dropped this episode—that was neat.

    I liked it as well.

    Best parts:

An Ayn-Rand type ***hole as the villain.

The final Graham and Ryan scenes, going back to the yellow beanie and trying to ride the bike. I hate that Ryan is gone; he was my favorite among the new characters.

That was probably my favorite episode of the Chibnall era so far. Only thing I didn’t really like was...

The new companion. I liked the setup of having Yaz as the one remaining companion with Graham and Ryan likely popping up here and there as the Doctor’s allies on Earth.

It is a shame to see Bradley Walsh leave, he was easily the best actor on the show.

John Barrowman was still the same, which is good.

This is nothing new though. Clara, Amy, etc all at the very least admonished the Doctor for his Absences.

On the whole I enjoyed the new episode. Felt a little drawn out but Capt'n Jack and nods to aliens past in the prison helped elevate the episode for me.

At least Graham and Ryan didn't leave by dying or some other method that would result in the possibility of them never being seen again unlike the Doctor's last five companions (Didn't include Narvel, because there is a slight chance that he's still alive somewhere; yes I'm including Donna. Yes I'm still bitter about that one)

I mean, three years is apparently what they're going with these days it seems... I could have done with several more seasons of Capaldi. :p

There were rumours a while back saying she might not go beyond the upcoming series.

But there aren't any very credible sources for it.

It's certainly all over the net. Whitaker's had two series of crap scripts so can't blame her for moving on. Probably feels longer than that due to the gaps between series.

I'm more sceptical on the "wants to take on other roles" bit, is Who that big a time commitment?

If you make one series plus a Christmas special every year, it probably is.

Can take up half the year or more

She could just be following the advice Patrick Troughton gave to Peter Davison: three years, then move on.

I believe there was something recently where Jodie was quoted as saying that she had chosen to exclusively do Doctor Who.
I doubt the time commitment is as big as it would have been for Tennant per series (11 episodes vs 14)

I really hope it is unreliable information regarding her departure.

I thought the reduction of episodes per series and gap between series 11 & 12 was part of the plan to ensure Jodie was the incumbent Doctor for the 60th.
She deserves to be around for the same amount of episodes as Tennant/Smith/Capaldi (ie. ~45ish)
