I have always wondered what forms they used but I have never been able to find out? If I have to guess I would say revan Ataru to capitalize on his speed and I would say Malak used Djem So to take advantage of his strength.

Yes i think Malak used aggressive strenght-based forms like Djem So, and since Revan was more of a tactician and is shown to be preferring two Lightsabers in many media, i'd say he used Niman, which was a more balanced and strategic form meant for adaptability and was viable for using two sabers.

It's possible to dual-wield, AKA "The Jar'Kai style" without being a Niman specialist. Ventress was closer to being a Makashi specialist than a Niman specialist, for example. Sora Bulq dual-wielded while being a Vaapad specialist. Kas'im dual-wielded (against Bane, at least) while being an Ataru specialist. And so forth.

What really defines Niman isn't the dual-wielding, but the all-roundedness - it's "The Diplomat's Form" - with its main weakness being that it uses very little from Form II "the Duellist's Form" and so Niman specialists tend to do worst against Makashi specialists.

Given that Wookieepedia lists Revan's lightsaber skills as "redirecting fire" and "acrobatic manuevers"

    https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Revan/Legends

Revan was a highly skilled combatant, particularly with a lightsaber. He was skilled at deflecting and redirecting enemy fire with his lightsaber,[15] and his abilities were bolstered by his gift of precognition.[2] He often made use of acrobatic maneuvers in combat, bolstering his body's natural abilities with the Force in order to increase his effectiveness.

I would suggest that Form III - Soresu (for the knack with redirection) and Form IV - Ataru (for the acrobatics) might be better fits than Niman. Though it's possible that Niman's versatility allows its techniques to include ones derived from Forms III and IV.

To me Revan in his duel with Bastila showed Vaapad characteristics, while Malak uses Makashi and Djem So.

I’d venture Revan uses Shien/ Vaapad.

A great aid is watch Vader in Empire Strike’s Back Duel with Luke. Malak mirrors Vader in Kotor, even in dueling, using one handed techniques with some two handed mixed in.

Indeed, its why Windu’s loyalty to the Light is suspect. He was using a form known for its Sith aggression.

It did allow him to best Palpatine. Not even Yoda won in his duel with Light Side forms.

I think plapatine was faking that duel, he needed anakin to have to ''save him''

That is probable. Though I wonder if that faking was only at the end of the duel. Palpatine did have to plan for .1% chance Anakin wouldn’t show.

The lightsaber forms are created over the many thousands years, they didn't create all 7 at the same time.

Form I - Shii-Cho, is the most basic form that everyone learns at the beginning especially padawans uses this a lot, it's very simple, works against non-lightsaber and non-blaster wielding opponents like large beasts or melee weapon holding opponents

Form II -Makashi, this forms was created after the Sith has become a threat, before, Jedi didn't need to duel with lightsaber wielding opponent, thus dueling with other Force users were never considered before, which is why Form II makashi, directly focuses on parrying and taking a leverage against lightsaber strikes and its based on out maneuvering them with precision, it's like balletic approach in wielding a lightsaber. After Jedi thought that the Sith wasn't a threat during 1000 years timeline until the Clone Wars, they stopped using this style due to not needing anymore, instead they focused on advanced Force enhanced styles like Ataru or Soresu since the blasters were a bigger threat, however some Jedi masters like Dooku didn't stop using this despite being obsolete at the time, and he was one of the unique users of this style during the Clone Wars, he also taught this to Asajj Ventress, and this worked to their advantage when they dueled with other Jedi during the Clone Wars. Notable practitioners: Dooku, Ventress, Grand Inquisitor, Ki Adi Mundi.

Form III - Soresu, this form was created after blaster weapon tech become a serious threat to the Jedi, thus it focuses on deflecting blaster bolts even in a vulnerable positions and against multiple blaster wielding opponents, it's the most defensive form of all seven forms, not only against blasters, it also works in lightsaber strikes, or any other kind of attacks, it's defensively very effective, but it doesn't provide any offensive creativity or power. Notable practitioners of this form: Kenobi, Depa Billaba, Kanan, Barriss and Luminara.

Form IV - Ataru, one of the most offensive lightsaber forms, it focuses on speed and agility, which is why is also effective in lightsaber combat, it's best suited for open spaces, since the first Jedi form shii-cho the understanding and the mastery of the Force has grown significantly since the old days of the Jedi and shii-cho, thus this form is much more advanced than shii-cho due to using the Force based movements much more with this form, using the Force is essential since it requires enhanced speed and enhanced jumping abilities to use this form, which only a Jedi who mastered the enhanced physical movements of the Force can accomplish this. Notable practitioners of this form: Yoda, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Aayla Secura and Anakin.

Form V - Djem-So, another advanced style, which is both defense and counter attack at the same time, thus also works against blaster bolts perfectly, and it requires superior physicality like Ataru, but it doesn't focus on enhanced speed and agility, it focuses on enhanced strength instead. Notable practitioners: Anakin, Adi Gallia, Ahsoka Tano, Darth Vader.

Form VI - Niman, just like ataru's development, the understanding of the force and mastery of the force has grown significantly since shii-cho, the Jedi uses the force much more while using a lightsaber at the same time, this form focuses on Force powers much more than any other form, while ataru focuses on physical aspects of the Force like enhanced speed and agility, this form focuses on Telekinetic powers of the Force, such as using Force push or levitation while using a lightsaber. Notable practitioners: Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, Grand Inquisitor.

Form VII - Juyo/Vaapad this is another advanced lightsaber forms, after mastering the previous 6 lightsaber forms, the Force user can use this by focusing their on the anger and negative emotions. Requires both enhanced speed and enhanced strength. Due to its highly aggressive and violent nature, the Jedi Council forbidded this form to use for the Jedi, only advanced sword masters like Windu developed a juyo variant like vaapad to use it, and managed to use this form without falling to the dark side. The practitioners also must use the Force on their physical movements all the time otherwise they get exhausted very quickly, this form's offensive power is so high that even a soresu practitioner might not defend against its power. Notable practitioners: Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, Windu, Grand Inquisitor, Depa Billaba.

Based on the fact that Revan lived in an old timeline that's far away from the Clone Wars and after, I don't think he mastered the new forms like Ataru, Djem-So or Niman.

I think it's possible that he either knew Form II Makashi or Form III Soresu, or not, and just used Form I Shii-Cho.

Juyo was the prototype for Vaapad, and existed quite early. Darth Traya mentions it, and she was a contemporary of Revan's.

I would suggest that Form II evolved during the Force Wars on Tython, with the other forms evolving shortly after that. Possibly the Jedi discovered Juyo when Naga Sadow and his Sith army attacked them. Niman was used by Exar Kun.

    Here:

    https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Niman

it's suggested that the Minions of Xendor named the Niman style, long before the Hundred Year Darkness.

Juyo the forerunner of Vaapad. I did not know that! I always surmised they were just different names for the same form.

There's a bit of a continuity snarl in the Bane books where the term Vaapad was used, but the author said, I'm told, that what was meant was Juyo, and "true Vaapad" is mostly Mace Windu's invention.

So then @clone commander bossk was right, from a certain point of view. ;)

    @Jedi Knight88 Revan uses Shein/ Juyo. :)

He could have learned Juyo from Zez-Kai Ell maybe?

The fact that this guy has a purple lightsaber like Mace is interesting.
