He could've done one series a year for 2 years then quit.
At least it would look good on his Doctor profile

    Eccleston: 2005-2007

I want David Tennant for the new Doctor. He's a fan and he's a great actor.

    Oh yes
They had a poll a while ago on who should play the new Dr and Anthony Head won
But I think hes already typecast as Giles

I don't think hes eccentric enough, too British

He's an actor though. He had a lot of range in giles. Giles pretty much had to be everything you could think of ( including a deamon[face_tongue]) - god that was a funny moment.

I am not familiar with David Tennant, and if he's already a fan thats great.. but i really wish teh BBC would hold on a bit before deciding. Im still annoyed that The BBC signed eccleston on not knowing how long he would be doing it more... c'mon, ONE series? that's pathetic and i honeslty think this news will affect the ratings, well for the new fans anyway

    Yup
    Definately will

I'd rather they did no series then only have one

I heard on "BBC RADIO 1" Domonic Burn, News Reader, and the "Good Morning" show that Eccleston (SP?) quit because it was a "Poisin Chalice" and the a guy off bbc3's cassanova will be playing the DR.

Mistakes on both sides here. I'm in complete agreement it should've been a 2-series minimum. Eccleston's wrong to think he'd be typecast after two series (he was quite high-profile as an actor before he got the part), and the Beeb were foolish not insisting on a two year contract.

Anthony Stewart Head is a great idea!

Being partly typecast is part of the job.
He shouldn't have signed up if he thought he'd be typecast

It means people will only see him as Doctor Who even if he does othe things.
He wants to be remembered as a versatile actot who did many roles rather then just as a guy who played Dr Who

Something like that. But yeah, David Tennant would be great. He was superb in Blackpool and I heard that he was great as Casonova (haven't watched it so I can't judge). Plus he's in the new Harry Potter film.

that casanova guy seems to have the right eccentricity for the Doctor, something other people in here have criticised other candidates for lacking

I don't care who really plays the Doctor
As long has the shows are good

Its just a shame that Eccleston is now officially the shortest reigning doctor, with a 13 week run

It's weird, because you don't see many people being typecast as a time travlling Doctor, do you? Peter Davison has gone on to have a successful career, so has Tom Baker.

Well, besides voicing Little Britain I haven't seen Tom Baker doing much else.

But then again, he doesn't care about being typecast as Dr Who, he likes it

    True
And another weird thing is that Peter Cushing did two Dr Who movies which, IMO, were better then McGann's movie. Yet he is not accepted as an official Doctor

I don't think of McGann as an official Doctor.
