What in hell was it? It was most likely Mandalorian in origin due to the Mandalorian skull emblem on it, the numerous weapons on it and the fact that Durge was onvce taught by Master Jaing. But what kind of Mandalorian armor, if was indeed mandalorian, was it? It seems to covering to Supercommando, which is very light in comparison. Could've have been some kind of zero-g armor? It was fully enclosed as far as I can tell and it had a rocket pack, which unlike jet packs normally used by Mandos can operate in space. Anybody know?

Jaing seems to be whatever the Mandalorian skull is.

A mythosaur? I thought mythosaurs were beasts of burden. Like cows.

That's what I thought, too, but the artist seemed to intend Jaing (especially in some of the other pictures of him) to be either a mythosaur, or something else that looks remarkably like the Mandalorian skull emblem. Chances are, the illustrator had no clue about the explanation for the skull and made up his own, but c'mon...it's not coincidence.

Where does Durge's background come from?

Other than Republic what else has he appeared in?

"Clone Wars" miniseries, Boba Fett young readers' series. Here's betting that he's in the next big BFII update along with either Padmé, Alpha-17, or Fordo.

I don't remember his backstory being told in any form save for the databank entry at the official site.

You also have the Prototypes story in the Visionaries book.

And he's mentioned in a Holonet News, and IIRC a few other reference materials as well.

Plus he has a couple action figures, and a mini. No Unleashed, though that would be really cool.

Check out the summary for Prototype here. It's quite enlightening.

I for one wonder if Durge gets new armor after he gets shot up. For example, after the ARCs blow him up in Clone Wars, you'd think he would get new armor. And it would be hard for any new armor to be up to mad scientist-level quality of workmanship.

The armor, at least the mask, he is wearing in Republic 51 and 52 is different from the one he's wearing in Blast Radius and Obsession.

And the one in the Young Boba books is different too. I'd say he changes armor every once in a while, just to be fresh and exciting.

The one in Young Boba reveals his teeth, no? It was most likely destroyed when Boba Fett blew up a munitions warehouse with him inside, anyway, blasted off like at Muunilisnt.

An exploding munitions warehouse can do that.

Two distinctly different helmets. Not artistic discretion.

That' Corroney vs. Giorello. You were talking about Ching vs. Giorello. Those two are much more similar.

Although, to be fair, Durge's mask in Obsession does look distinctly different from even Blast Radius. Which would make since, since that's after he was popped by Kenobi.

Durge has had his armor destroyed so many times, its not even funny. Ok, a little.

It makes sense that he just keeps on making/getting new masks.

Here's a look at my process for creating my artwork of Durge for SW Insider and an explanation of my take on the visual design of the character -

Oh yeah, and according to the History of the Mandalorians, the emblem is indeed inspired by Jaing's head and only coincidentally looks like a mythosaur skull. Surprised no one caught that yet. It's a great tie-in to Visionaries-- even though it was published before the fact.
