I would like to give special thanks to the artists that allowed me to post their work in my name... If you did not sign your work or if I had to altar your signature in the process of coloring the picture... please scan in just your Mark or Signature on a plain background and I will add/re-add it back into the picture(s).

Hello Eamon and welcome to Fan Art! Not only is this a great coloring, but you chose one of my favorite pieces from Siths_Herald's thread to color! [face_dancing] It looks just great, and it's fun to see the process you went through to get to the final product. I agree that the darker robe seems to suit a bit better, and I guess the only suggestion I would make might be to splash a few "lightsaber highlights" on the face and clothing--other than that, it looks just wonderful! I loved this sketch the first time I saw it, and the color just enhances that! Well done, and again--welcome to the forum!

Oh! Another Gimp-user, that's always nice to see. :D

It's greatly done. You have the shading and everything that just totally adds to the picture. Very, very well done.

I've attempted doing my own coloring before and have found that I'm just not patient enough. I have gotten good at altering images with Gimp, but I just haven't gotten very far with inking. Any tips.

Great job. I'm still befuddled as to how well some people can color so expertly and have such a grip on lighting and other accents. Very cool!

Thanks for the good comments... the shading and picture quality is all due to the original work having that much detail...

Don't sell your skills short here, Eamon--being able to "see" where the shading and highlighting should be or needs to go is a skill, and one you demonstrate very well. And being able to use the digital programs to color...well...that's just "magic" to me, lol! :p 8-} These are just beautiful, and it's wonderful to see how much some color can add to what was a monochrome work! Lovely!

Well thanks to aurelia-acc I had another really nice picture to color...

Here is the full size pic. -click- The ones above are a nice size too be are smaller than this one.

    ------------------------------
Well as far as tips go... I like to fill in color "rough" with a large soft brush then use the smudge tool to smooth the color in to the area that I am working on. This also helps to blend in the colors. Keep in mind I do most colors on their own layers. I do most of the coloring on Multiply but I always flip through the other transfer modes to see if something else looks good. Often I will copy a layer of color and run it through the transfer modes to see if any of that looks good and if not I go back and delete that layer. The "color picker" hates me becuse I click on it so much (hehehe)
I am not trying to sell my own skills short [face_coffee] I would just like to give credit where it is due... I really appreciate that fact that you like my art... I like your art. I guess we all admire the things that we can't do more that the ones we can... You see I think being able to draw the pictures above is much more artistic than coloring them in. But that is just from my side of the art fence (so to speak) Anyway there is more on the way but I have chosen to get permission to post pictures before doing so... out of respect for the artists that originally created the pictures.

These are all so beautiful! Your colouring skills are fantastic. I am positively chilled by Obi-Wan Kenobi's eyes, and you achieved very nice lighting in the first piece by Siths_Herald. (the lighsaber glow is great) :D

What I really like is how you smooth out the pencil beforehand. It makes for such a nice finish, and it's something I had never even thought to try in all my attempts of colouring in the past. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I would love to see more. :)

Oh, wow!! You've added some stunning pieces here Eamon! I'm just in love with Aurelia's Obi Wan portrait, and Your_Worshipfulness's Princess Leia...they're two of my all-time favorite pieces by these artists, and the way you've "enhanced" them is just awesome. Most especially Princess Leia: the subtle blending of the skintones makes it look very, very much like a photograph...beautiful! It's also great that you include the process steps--I'm sure it's a wonderful insight for others into how you go about your work. Again--just beautiful!

As I said in my PM, I really like the coloring of my Obi Wan ;) . I have to admit that I find it kinda weird to see it in color as I'm so used to see it in b&w lol:D .
The other colorings are great =D=

Me too! There are three layers of color in the eyes but the final effect was a total accident... you see instead of just selecting the color transfer mode from the dropdown I scrolled down through them and the rest is history... (always check the other modes!)

You guys/girls :) have really made me feel good about what I have done to these pictures (that are truly art all by themselves). It is hard to express what your positive feedback has meant to me. You all have made me feel like an artist too. And I would like to thank all of you for that. I do not know what I will color next... but I would love for it to be a picture that you guys/girls would like to see in color. Again Thank you all.
