The brutal Yuuzhan Vong are scouring the universe for Jedi to slaughter. With no help from the divided New Republic, the Jedi stand alone against their seemingly invincible foe. Han and Leia Organa Solo risk deadly consequences with their controversial tactics to bolster the Jedi resistance. After uncovering a new Yuuzhan Vong menace, Anakin and Tahiri find themselves wanted for murder by the Peace Brigade. To avoid capture, they jump into hyperspace... and into trouble far graver.

Hunted by the Yuuzhan Vong, wanted as criminals by the New Republic, and with unrest stirring within their own ranks, the Jedi find peril everywhere they turn. But even in the midst of despair, while the fiercest battle of all looms on the horizon, hope arises with the birth of one very special child....

I really, really enjoyed this one and is possibly my favorite NJO thus far.

Ever since I started the NJO I couldn't wait to get to Star by Star because everyone says it's so great. Now I'm dreading it, because Anakin's character is really starting to grow and it's terrible that he's doing to die. Why not one of the twins instead? My vote would be for Jacen.

I was glad to see Kyp in action finally since he's been pretty much MIA in the NJO other than Luke and the Solo kids complaining about him. It's too bad he deceived Jaina though, I was hoping to see Kyp and Luke finally smooth out their problems and work together, that doesn't seem likely now.

Han and Leia's plot was pretty much fluff. Is it really neccesary to put Han in there just for the heck of it? At least when Luceno writes multiple plotlines in one book they all end up affecting the overall arc of the story, however boring that may be (Agents of Chaos II)

I already know more about Star by Star than I would like to(major character deaths, fall of Coruscant) but I'm guessing it's going to severely effect the direction of the series from that point on. At least I hope so. The "defend the next planet on the invasion trail from the Vong" stories are starting to wear a bit thin.

Anyway, I'm giving it 8.

It was there, it had its moments, there was some good, some bad, but most importantly nothing about the book really stood out to me.

With the exception of the one obvious and notable standout event, this book was pretty dull. As if the whole book was written for one purpose, and the rest was just window dressing. This book wasn't awful, it just wasn't anything special.

Thanks again.

Well, I had a nice long review written up, but accidentally deleted it.

In a nutshell, book felt longer than its 290 pages (in a bad way), took to long to get to the parts that seemed interesting to me, good to see return of characters like Kyp, Corran, and Wedge, Ben's birth and the possible Force cameo of his namesake were wonderful, Nen Yim's storyline seemed unnecessary except that it appears to set up future storylines, Shimmra's first appearance was suitably chilling as was his "jester"'s, and I loved the Anakin/Tahiri kiss. Somehow, I didn't even know about it and it makes his fate in the next book even more tragic.

6.5/10
