    Atalanta, Bakura

Lyndsey turned off their speeder before she and Artemis jumped out to look at the speeder they’d just hit. There were no signs of life from inside.

“Do you think he’s...dead?” Lyndsey asked, craning her neck.

“Hey now. It could be a female,” Artemis pointed out.

“True. Traffic violations aren’t the province of one sex over the other,” Lyndsey agreed.

“I’m going to go check,” Artemis said.

“Be careful!” Lyndsey cautioned. “For all we know that speeder could explode any moment now! Its fuel cells could have been damaged!”

“That only happens in holos,” Artemis said as she gingerly picked her way through some debris that had been dislodged by the impact and the other speeder coming to a halt.

As she got closer, she saw the driver was indeed a human male who was, thankfully, conscious. He was blinking his eyes and seemed to be somewhat woozy.

“Hi mister! Are you OK?” Artemis asked.

“I’m gonna be fine if you stop right there,” the driver said, backing his statement up by leveling a blaster at Artemis.

“Whoa now!” Artemis said, putting her hands up in the air. “This is why beings have insurance, dude! Let’s just simmer down. I’m sure we can work something out.”

The driver barked a laugh. “Oh that’s rich. After being on my tail for the last 20 kilometers you’re going to talk about insurance? Korriban no. You just stay right there and hand over the keys to your speeder and we are never gonna see each other again.”

That plan was halted by the distinct and knee-weakening sound of a blaster shotgun racking. The driver turned his head to find Lyndsey pointing the hefty weapon at him through the broken passenger side window.

“Rude!” Lyndsey objected. “Hit and runs leave a huge trauma in the lives of those affected!”

“Where— what the—how did you get that?”

“It’s called Life Day,” Lyndsey informed him.

“I thought Bakurans were a bunch of hippies who hated blasters!” the driver said.

“Maybe in Cape Suzette,” Artemis scoffed.

“Welcome to Atalanta,” Lyndsey said without much pleasantness. “Now put the safety on and throw the blaster out the driver’s side window onto the ground, buddy.”

The driver did as he was instructed and put his hands up in the air. Artemis’s datapad pinged. With the threat to her person now extinguished, she felt no problem fishing it out from her pocket.

“Hey! The Miners just chose Rose-Lynn Hypertravels,” Artemis said brightly. “Huh, that seems a little fast for their next pick…”

“Probably not the best time, Artemis,” Lyndsey said, her shotgun still trained on the driver.

“Oh you have got to be kidding me,” a new voice said.

Artemis turned around and Lyndsey looked up to find a Mandalorian in armor of such a deep burgundy color it looked like an expensive wine. The beskar was polished to such a shine that it shone even in the rapidly falling twilight.

And she had a blaster rifle in both her hands that looked like it meant business.

Nothing more had been learned about the sale of the Senators, which only led to additional mystery for those confounded by the ill-timed news. Again the Senator selection came around and was used. Miranda Starstalker, a Forward from Ord Sabaok University, was the newest Senator.

The Starkillers were on the Clock next.

It feels like this draft is moving really fast. I can barely keep up. Before I know it Richard and Alyada are back on stage. This time they do take a defender. “With the 12th pick of the Elite League Limmie 300 draft the Ralltiir Starkillers select Drizzku,” my brother announces. Cammie’s male interest thought our first round selection had been a complete waste of a pick. I don’t look forward to his analyses of this selection.

"Gentlebeings--we have another trade!" Lokensgaard announced.

"The Rydonni Prime Monarchs trade the fourteenth overall selection--"

Wait, the fans thought, hadn't they just gotten that from the Miners?

    "--to the Mando'ade Mercs--"

Who had already been involved in a trade once today.

"--in exchange for both third round selections held by the Mercs, the fifteenth and twentieth picks, in this draft."

Which left the Monarchs with two consecutive selections twice in the third round and the Mercs with the last two selections of the second round. It had been a long time since there'd been this kind of draft day activity. Some fans were still trying to figure out exactly what had just happened.

"The Mando'ade Mercs remain on the clock," Lokensgaard finished.

TAG: @Bardan_Jusik @SWNerd11 who will doubtless correct me if I got anything in here wrong...which I very well could have :p

    IC: The Rancor Pitt

"LIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE! From on location from the oyu'baat cafe, it's draft night! Welcome on into the Rancor Pitt, here on your wave home of the Mando'ade Mercs. I'm Randy the Rancor, he's Justin Pitt. Liz and Kitterich holding down the fort back at the studio and oh baby do we have a lot to talk about today."

"Always so much to talk about on draft night...'

    "Oya, oya, oya!"

"And it's always the beginning of a new era for the players drafted, but this year even more so for the Mercs as we have a new face at the helm, Villy Pitt."

There was a pause as if Randy and Justin expected cheering and chanting, but there was none which led to an awkward silence over the wave.

"Who of course takes over for beloved GM Adenn Vizlsa..."

    "Oya, oya, oya!"

"...who has been such a large part of building a winning franchise here with the Mercs, now it's up to the bean counter to see if he can match his mentor's success..."

    Later that evening...

"So that brings up the Mercs again as we near the end of the second round, and Justin we've seen an interesting draft here so far..."

"Sure sure. Early run on defenders, with spurts of teams grabbing forwards at five and six and again at ten and 11."

"Well and the number three pick too."

    "Sure, sure."

"And of course the Mercs bucking the trend entirely and going with a 'keeper."

    "And still no midfielders taken."

"Again that hasn't been unusual in recent drafts."

"Well where do the Mercs go here?"

"Forward or defense, those are the only two real nee..."

"Hold on here comes the commissioner."

"Gentlebeings--we have another trade!" Lokensgaard announced. "The Rydonni Prime Monarchs trade the fourteenth overall selection--"

"Didn't they just get that from the Miners?" Randy echoed the thoughts of many fans.

    "--to the Mando'ade Mercs--"

    "Oya, oya, oya!"

"--in exchange for both third round selections held by the Mercs, the fifteenth and twentieth picks, in this draft."

That quieted the scene in the oyu'baat slightly.

    "Well, that interesting."

"Sure is, and I guess to answer your question, they do that."

"The Mando'ade Mercs remain on the clock,"

    "But why?"

"Well, let me make a few calls and I'll try to find out..."

"Take your time, because here comes the Mercs GM."

"With the 13th and 14th selections in the 300 ELL Player draft the Mando'ade Mercs select Din Wren, Forward from Nessem University and Rakaan Daveer, fullback from Vertical City University."

"Right again!" Justin exclaimed though he sounded distracted.

"Never going to let us forget I'm sure." Randy said though Justin was ignoring him, so the Zabrak continued on. "So with the the Mercs get their backup forward and defender all in one fell swoop, though the way they got there was kind of surprising..."

"I may have some insight there now Randy," Jusitn said though he didn't sound too sure of himself.

    "Well lay it on us."

"According to my source, this one was instigated by the Monarchs..."

"Who now own four picks in the third round."

"And Villy Pitt took them up on it in order to ensure he got the defender and forward he wanted."

"Not much risk there though, I mean he only moved up one spot."

"True, but the sense I got was a part of this was greasing the skids so to speak."

    "How do you mean?"

"He's a new GM, wants to get the reputation as someone willing to trade, and willing to make a deal that benefits both sides."

"Well he certainly is getting a reputation with the Mercs fans...though I'm not sure it's a good one."

"The Rydonni Prime Monachs are now on the clock."

    IC: Franc Danshire
    Elite Limmie League 300
    Royal Ryell Hospital, Rydonni Prime

"Gentlebeings--we have a trade!" [the Commissioner] announced. "The Rydonni Prime Monarchs trade their second round selection, the ninth overall, to the Bakura Miners in exchange for the Miners' second and third round selections, fourteenth and twenty-first overall, in this draft.”

Franc just layed in his hospital bed in befuddlement as the announcement was made before the conclusion of the first round. He continued to look on in horror as the Miners, who had just won yet another Galactic Cup, closed out their draft with the player he wanted. He had to believe that Royd and Solo had some kind of plan in their collective back pockets. What other choice did he have?

But then that belief was shook to its core when HSN flashed a BREAKING NEWS ALERT along the bottom of the holo:
    • Rydonni Prime Monarchs announce the retirement of Interim Head Coach Cali Royd; Royd cites the reason for her departure after only one season as a Head Coach is due to undisclosed personal reasons. Sources close to the Monarchs’ organization have stated that Royd is dealing with health issues. Some have speculated that it may be tied to what has hospitalized the team owner, Franc Danshire.
    • Rydonni Prime Monarchs name Vesper Lynd the eighth Head Coach in team history.
    • Rydonni Prime Monarchs announce the release of Goalkeeper Ari'ann'emartell (Female, Chiss), Defensive Back Elsa Sarnac (Female, Human), and Midfielder Lai’anya (Female, Zeltron) to Free Agency.
    • Rydonni Prime Monarchs re-sign Defensive Backs Liddy Powe and Cora Inthet to two year contract extensions
    • Rydonni Prime Monarchs re-sign Offensive Forwards Becky George and Leia Vargaras to two year contract extensions
Franc’s jaw went slack. Not only had they just lost their newest Head Coach, but Solo had failed to sign three key members of their current roster. He had no idea what Solo was doing, at least she made the smart move and named Vesper Lynd as the new Head Coach.

He took a deep breath and laid back as Geonosis, Coruscant, and Ralltiir made their picks. All he needed to do was wait for Mandalore to make their selection and then it would be the Monarchs’ turn once more. But it wasn’t the Mercs’ GM that made his way to the podium, but Commissioner Lokensgaard. Franc had a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.

"Gentlebeings--we have another trade!" Lokensgaard announced. "The Rydonni Prime Monarchs trade the fourteenth overall selection to the Mando'ade Mercs in exchange for both third round selections held by the Mercs, the fifteenth and twentieth picks, in this draft."

Franc felt faint, but there was nothing he could do about it. He couldn’t cry out in frustration or confusion. He couldn’t get up out of the bed and walk away. The only thing that was open for him to do was change the channel, but that wasn’t really an option either. So he just layed there as the Mercs made their two consecutive picks to close out the second round.

"With the 13th and 14th selections in the 300 ELL Player draft the Mando'ade Mercs select Din Wren, Forward from Nessem University and Rakaan Daveer, fullback from Vertical City University."

Once again, two players that were on Franc’s personal Draft Board were snatched away from them. So Franc just resigned himself to watching the rest of the draft unfold before him as Dawn Solo made her way to the podium once again.

“With the fifteenth pick in the ELL 300 Draft, the Rydonni Prime Monarchs select… Fella Teadhors, Goalkeeper, from the University of Corellia, Bella Vistal.”

Solo let the first pick of the third round get her due before moving on with their second pick of the round.

“With the sixteenth pick in the ELL 300 Draft, the Rydonni Prime Monarchs select… Javefar Tippet, Midfielder, from the Royal College of Hapes.”

So after not signing Ari’ann’emartell and Lai’anya, Dawn immediately replaced them. Franc was no longer concerned about not having the use of his voice and legs. He was now worried whether or not his heart would last through the remainder of the draft.

Geonosis was once again on the clock.

“And who exactly are you?” Artemis demanded of their Mandalorian visitor.

“I’m the being who’s been tracking him through six star systems only for you two to poach my bounty,” the Mandalorian said. Thankfully she wasn’t pointing the blaster rifle at them, but instead had it aimed at the ground. Something about her stance suggested to Lyndsey and Artemis that she could snap it up and towards them whenever she wanted.

Artemis turned around to look at Lyndsey and the pair entered one of their silent twintuition conversations.

“Oh my Maker, she thinks we’re bounty hunters!” Lyndsey began.
“She totally does! This is so cool!”
    “But we’re not bounty hunters!”
“That doesn’t matter! Do you know how many credits you get for bringing in a bounty?”
    “I don’t know. Half a million?”
“At least! Probably more like two million!”
“Two million credits! We could, like, buy a starship with that!”
“I’d be great at flying a starship!”
“I’m such a better pilot than you.”
    “No you’re not!”
“Why do I always drive the speeder then?”
“Because I let you! Focus up Lyndz! We need to makes sure Mando doesn’t shoot us.”
“She does have a pretty big rifle.”
    “Props to her.”
    “So what should we do?”
    “Just follow my lead.”
“But what if she figures out we’re not bounty hunters?”
“Please. We cornered this bounty that she’s been chasing across six star systems in, like, 20 seconds. She must think we’re the greatest bounty hunters in the galaxy. Don’t worry.”

Artemis turned back to the Mandalorian. The entire nonverbal exchange with Lyndsey had taken barely a second. “Guess it stinks to be you then,” Artemis said. “We made the collar, so he’s our bounty now.”

The Mandalorian gave a short laugh. “Cool. Have fun.” She turned to walk away.

Artemis glanced back at Lyndsey who suddenly did not seem so supportive of this plan.

“Yeah, that’s right, we’re bringing him in ourselves,” Artemis reiterated, sounding slightly less confident about that than she wanted to.

“You do that,” the Mandalorian said, still walking away, “being top-notch bounty hunters who know where to deliver him.”

“Uhhhh…” Artemis said, looking back at Lyndsey.

“And of course you’ll know how to get the Guild their cut. Even non-members know you don’t want to make them mad,” the Mandalorian continued.

“How do you know we’re not members?” Lyndsey asked, still training the shotgun on the driver.

The Mandalorian turned back around and tapped the visor of her helmet. “Facial recognition, ladies. But like I said, good luck with all of that.”

“Wait!” Artemis called out before the Mandalorian could walk further away. “I guess you did put in a lot of work. We’ll split it, 50-50.”

The Mandalorian turned around. “Or we can split it 0-100 since neither of you are bounty hunters.”

Artemis rolled her eyes and gave Lyndsey a pained, seriously how did this not work? look.

“Sure, we can do that,” Lyndsey said, “but the moment I take this shotgun off him he’s going to take off and then you’ll be chasing him all over again.”

“I like that option,” the driver said, making his first contribution to the conversation since the arrival of the Mandalorian.

“You don’t get a vote,” Lyndsey reminded him.

“70-30,” the Mandalorian said. “Should be just enough to fix up the damage to your speeder.”

“60-40 and…” Artemis searched for something else to sweeten their side of the deal. “...and you train us how to be bounty hunters!”

“What?” Lyndsey and the Mandalorian said simultaneously.

“Clearly we’d be really good at it!” Artemis argued. “I mean we basically caught this guy without even trying.”

“No. 60-40 and you go back to your lives snaptexting or whatever it is you Republicans do,” the Mandalorian said. “There’s no way you could handle bounty hunting.”

“We totally could,” Lyndsey said, rallying to the idea. “I mean, we’ve already got a part-time job.”

“Yeah, if the Miners want us on the sidelines that proves that we’re pretty amazing,” Artemis added.

The Mandalorian’s head jerked so she looked at the pair full on. “The Miners?”

“Yeah, we’re on the hydration crew for this season,” Artemis said proudly, “and they don’t just take anyone.”

“I bet the Mercs never let you be a hydration specialist for them,” Lyndsey said. “How do you even drink in a helmet anyways?”

“You just lift it up a little bit, duh,” Artemis said, as if it was obvious.

“I don’t care about boloball,” the Mandalorian said, suddenly walking towards them. Artemis tensed up, unsure of what was about to happen. Lyndsey tightened her grip on the shotgun, ready to take action if the Mandalorian tried to do anything to Artemis.

Instead she walked right past Artemis over to the speeder, ripped the driver’s side door open, and conked the being on the head with the butt of her rifle. “Rule number one: incapacitate the bounty as soon as practical. I hate runners.” She turned to Artemis. “Help me haul him back to the ship. We’ll talk there.”

Lyndsey and Artemis shared a look, but no twintuition was needed. They didn’t know where the bounty hunter was going with this, but they wanted in.

Artemis looked at her datapad first. “That’s weird. The Miners haven’t made another pick yet. I feel like they should have gone again by now.”

“Boohoo,” the Mandalorian said as she began to pull the bounty out of the speeder, “now come over here and take his legs. The sooner we get out of here, the better.”

"Hey if a team is good enough, and they win enough, they will be ranked by season's end."

"Yeah I get it, but well it doesn't matter not going to win this argument."

    "You're right, it doesn't matter."

"Just like these pre season rankings."

    "Oh...burn."

"Well in the rankings that don't matter, Royal College of Hapes starts the year ranked number one..."

"That's been a good program the last few seasons."

"...while the hometown fans will be glad to see the KMI Warriors rounding out the top five."

"Not going to mention my StarBucks there at number three huh?"

"Didn't have to, I knew you would."

    "Sure, sure."

"Meanwhile the the pollsters don't seem to have a lot of faith in the Bak10 at all as their highest ranked team is number 18 Bakura Fleet..."

"Going to be a down year for the Bak10 I think."

"...and last year's champions, the Evenvale Archers don't even break into the top 25 while the runners up start the season ranked at 22..."

    "Wait, I've seen this one!"

    Elite Limmie League 300
    Royal Ryell Hospital, Rydonni Prime

The time had come. The final picks of the draft, both of which belonged to the Monarchs. Franc ran the list of remaining Ranked Players against the list of holes in the Monarchs roster. They needed another Defensive Back and another Offensive Forward. Defense was a no brainer, Chase the Younger from The Ord Sabaok University was the only defender left on the board.

The other side of the field was slightly tougher to predict. Of the five remaining players there were three viable options: Nagai Haraan, Koska Woves, and Bo Jurrow. Haraan out of BCC was the highest ranking out of the three and unlike Jurrow and Woves he could play any of the six positions on the offensive side of the field. However, Woves from Kuat specialized in the position they needed to fill, Half Forward.

Franc didn’t have long to contemplate who the Monarchs were taking as Dawn Solo made her way up to the podium once more.

“With the twentieth pick in the ELL 300 Draft, the Rydonni Prime Monarchs select… Koska Woves, Half Forward, from the University of Kuat.”

So there was a pick that Franc could get behind, of course if he had been the one making the announcements he would have left this announcement for the last pick, just for the suspense of it all. Now everyone knew who the last pick was going to be since Chase the Younger was the only remaining option. Franc nearly had the channel changed over to the Galactic News to get an update on the situation on Jakku, but then the new Monarchs’ Head Coach came up to the podium with a Monarchs’ jersey in her hands.

Franc was perplexed by what Vesper Lynd was doing, so he kept the channel on HSN.

“With the twenty-first and final pick in the ELL 300 Draft, I am proud to announce that the Rydonni Prime Monarchs select… Dorian Artys Dunross Lynd, Corner Back, from the Bakura Fleet Academy.”

As Vesper’s eldest child made his way up to the podium, she presented him with the Monarchs’ jersey whose back was emblazoned with the number 12 with D. Lynd above it.

This officially marked the end of the ELL 300 Draft and the beginning of a new era for the Rydonni Prime Monarchs.

“This is so cool!” Lyndsey said, looking around the inside of the Mandalorian’s ship with eyes the size of saucers. “A real bounty hunter’s ship! Do you freeze the bounties in carbonite?”

“No,” the Mandalorian said. She and Artemis were still hauling the unconscious bounty into the ship.

“Real missed opportunity there. It’d really scare those bounties stiff.” Lyndsey paused. “Get it? Stiff?”

“Har har,” Artemis said without mirth, clearly not happy at being the one dragging half a fully grown Human male while Lyndsey bounced off the walls looking at cool stuff. “But speaking of, hopefully we won’t have to go much further with this guy.”

“Holding cell over here,” the Mandalorian said, slamming a door sensor with her shoulder. In response, a door opened to a small cell. “Heave on three. One, two, three.”

Artemis and the Mandalorian let go and the Human sailed briefly before landing with a thud on the dingy deck. A punch of the sensor and the door was locked inside.

“It’d be a lot easier if you could just quick freeze them,” Lyndsey continued.

“Not everyone likes getting their bounties blind and disoriented on delivery—don’t touch that,” the Mandalorian said, pulling Artemis by the back of her shirt away from a rack of weapons.

“But we’ve taken blaster safety classes!” Artemis objected. “And we clearly know what we’re doing.”

“We basically caught him for you,” Lyndsey agreed.

“One—” The Mandalorian put up a gauntleted finger. “—I was about to get him. Two—” Another finger. “—pretty sure disruptors are illegal on this planet and weren’t covered in your ‘class.’” She bent her hand at the wrist to point the two fingers at the weapon Artemis had been about to touch. “And three—” A final finger. “—you’re here to talk about a potential job, not to touch things that don’t belong to you.”

“And by job you mean ‘on-the-job training to become bounty hunters,’” Artemis clarified.

“No, I mean a job that you happen to be in a unique position to assist me with.” The Mandalorian pulled out a puck and activated it. It showed a hazy outline of a sentient being.

Lyndsey and Artemis looked at each other. “So you’re hunting...a shadow?” Lyndsey ventured with clear lack of understanding.

“Maybe it’s a Ryn! They used to be thought of as shadows!” Artemis speculated.

“Or a Cathar! Some of them are so dark black they’re supposed to be able to fade into darkness!” Lyndsey pressed.

“No, this is a contract for the Boloball Bandit,” the Mandalorian said. “They’ve been disrupting games across the galaxy for years now. Made a mockery of the ABC, hit the Premier League a couple of years ago. Thought is they’re some kind of anarchist who likes pulling pranks and upsetting beings. Turns out that when you upset beings who own limmie teams, they have the credits to put out a bounty worth going after.

“Word in the cantina circuit is the Bandit’s planning something big. Consensus is they’re going after a Premiership game this time, but I’ve been looking at the pattern. I think the Bandit is going for the last frontier they haven’t hit yet: the ELL.”

“No!” Artemis exclaimed with genuine outrage.

“That’s just rude!” Lyndsey said at the same time.

“If the Bandit sees a bounty hunter, let alone anyone in beskar’gaam, in a stadium, they’ll turn tail in a flash,” the Mandalorian said. “But two...what did you call yourselves?”

“Hydration specialists,” Lyndsey said with pride.

“Yeah...whatever...you two have a reason to be at ELL games. You can keep your eyes out for anything out of the ordinary, hit me up on the comm, and I can swoop in and nab the sucker,” the Mandalorian said.

“But what if the Bandit isn’t going to target a Miners game?” Artemis asked.

“They’re going to target a Miners game,” the Mandalorian insisted. “They’re the reigning champions. Plus you won the GCAA championship—”

“Pfft Evenvale,” Lyndsey said automatically, her loyalty to U of A coming out again. “Just watch. Kassandra Kirt is gonna tear up the league this season. Titans all the way.”

The Mandalorian didn’t seem to care that much about a non-Power Five rivalry and continued on. “Even if those things weren’t true, let’s be honest: everyone hates the Miners.”

Artemis and Lyndsey looked at each other and nodded. “Yeah, that makes sense,” Artemis agreed.

“And in exchange for us being your inside eyes and ears, you’re going to train us how to be bounty hunters,” Lyndsey pressed.

“And get us our 40% cut of that dude.” Artemis jerked a thumb over her shoulder at the cell.

The Mandalorian sighed. “Fine. But you do everything I tell you to. This isn’t one of those games on Facespace or whatever it is you kids do on your datapads.”

“Yes!” Lyndsey said, pumping one fist downwards in victory.

“You are not going to regret this,” Artemis promised. “I’m just gonna take a quick pic with all of us—” Artemis took her datapad out.

“You are not,” the Mandalorian vetoed.

Artemis ignored her, but didn’t take a picture. Instead she looked at the ELL app. “Oh so that’s why the Miners haven’t picked again!”

“Why?” Lyndsey asked, as if that was the most interesting thing that had happened tonight.

“They traded up to get the Monarchs’ second round pick! Of course! That’s how they got Hypertravels!” Artemis said, as if it was obvious.

“I already regret this decision,” the Mandalorian said, knowing full well no one on the ship was paying attention to her.

Brief Biography: Lyndsey and Artemis Cash are your average teenagers. They attend private high school (it’s important to have the Cosmic Balance as an integral part of your education, which you just won’t get at public schools thanks to those liberal Salis D’aar politicians) and take part in extracurricular activities like any ambitious university-bound high school students.

Their elite school was selected to provide hydration specialists (commonly, but mistakenly, known as watergirls) for the Miners this season. Thanks to Lyndsey’s grades and Artemis’s lightball prowess the pair were chosen for this honor.

Oh, and (thanks to a chance encounter with a Mandalorian) they’re also teenage bounty hunters.

"Well that went well, don't you think? I think so."

To general, if casual, surprise by those in attendance, this sentiment was expressed not by Lokensgaard, but by Deputy Commissioner Andy Wigast, who appeared on the stage.

"Honestly, great draft. Good draft for you, good draft for you," Wigast said, pointing at various general managers and teams on the floor, seemingly at random. "Now, I know some media outlets--not gonna say who but they might be you, Ser On, if you know what I mean--like do to draft grades. I don't really know what those are because I went to one of those schools where you didn't have grades but instead got a narrative evaluation, but they seem pretty silly. I gotta say, I'm proud of you all." He looked out at the draft floor with a visage that seemed to convey...something. It was hard to tell what. "This draft's been a huge success. Yay us! Pat on the back. Pat on the back." He gave himself a pat on the back. "Come on. No? Me too! Because I've been a big part it. Can't have a draft without a deputy commissioner. So, uh, you're welcome.

Before he could go any further, the Commissioner dashed onto the stage. "What are you doing here? I thought I sent you to the Maw or Kessel or some place impossible to escape from?" Lokensgaard grabbed one of Wigast's arms to attempt to pull him off stage.

"What can I say? I'm slippery like that," Wigast said with an aww shucks manner.

"Draft's over everyone. See you in Week 1," Lokensgaard said unceremoniously as he dragged a waving Wigast away.

"You've been a great draft hall! Good night!" Wigast said with a final wave.

    • Ralltiir Starkillers sign Wimbii Jelkin (Rodian, Male, Corner Forward, University of Tatooine, Anchorhead).
    • Bakura Miners sign Vett Kranoft (Shistavanen, Male, Midfielder, University of Euceron).
    • Miners announce they will not resign Miley "Gasket" Gaskin (Nikto, Female, Midfielder).
      • BBC Sports analyst Horst Penn: "I think I see Shay Dionne's move here. She was looking to bring in a new midfielder, but there was no difference between the last pick of the draft and doing an entry-level free agent signing. In fact, the Miners probably got salary savings out of this. Of course, she was gambling that there wouldn't be a run on midfielders--usually a safe bet these days--and that there wouldn't be a lot of competition to sign them after the draft. Seems like a solid move to me. Then again, I'm not a GM. I just stayed at a Celebration Motel last night."

"Welcome to Nar Shaddaa," Niall Rian said extending his hand.

"Thanks," Tago replied, "anything I should know?"

"Learn the job, use your head, and I'll be taking you under my wing," Niall said, "it's not easy going from college to the pros. We want to win here. You did good work at KMI. Now we need to do good work this year. I can't tell you how much the team being back means to the fans," Niall said.

"No, I've got a lot to learn," Tago replied, " a lot to learn. I'll do my best to help this squad out. Any way I can."

    IC: Tago Tagoraana
    Six Boroughs Stadium
    300 ABY

"There she is," Niall Rian said as he emerged from the team bus just outside Six Borough stadium, "the greatest stadium in the entire galaxy."

    "Wow, its huge," Tago said.

"And still smaller than other stadia,"Niall said, "built in 276 ABY by Kaitlyn Vehn to replace the older Six Boroughs stadium and now houses all thirteen Galactic Cup trophy replicas from the great Nar Shaddaa Smugglers teams of the past. There's so much history here. Just wait until you see the pitch. Come on let me show you around."

Tago followed Niall through the security checkpoint and into the team tunnels. He was stunned by the vastness of the stadium having never been around such a huge structure in all of his limmie playing days. He stayed close to Niall as he didn't want to get lost as they made one turn after another through the well lit bowels of the stadium.

Tago made a left turn in lock step with Niall as they entered the team tunnel heading out onto the field. Niall pointed out the locker rooms for the home team but urged Tago to follow him toward the pitch. A blinding light blocked out the view of the field from the tunnel but before they reached the threshold where durracrete meets grass Niall stopped and pointed to a nearby wall.

"What am I looking for?" Tago asked.

"Legend," Niall replied referring to the remnants of Rhia Grames most famous jersey embedded into the wall of the tunnel, "we touch it every time we hit the pitch for luck and for power. It's never failed us."

    "Never?" Tago asked eyes wide.

"Some say her energy lives on in these tunnels. After all Rhia Grames helped put Nar Shaddaa on the map with her stellar play in the 220s and 230s. Then she became coach and then general manager. She is the epitomy of all that is great about this organization," Niall explained.

"Wow," Tago said taking everything in, "I had no idea the Smugglers had so much history."

"There's more," Niall said as he walked through the bright lights and out onto the pitch.

Tago felt the grass underneath his feet. The surface was firm but not so hard that it felt uncomfortable. He soaked everything in as he saw the empty burgundy and black stands, the stadium lights illuminating the field, the menacing Smugglers logo painted brilliantly at dead center. This place was more than just a sports stadium. It was the heart of Nar Shaddaa.

"This is incredible," Tago pointed out.

"This is nothing," Niall said, "wait until you're here on game day. The roar of the crowd. The sound so loud it rattles your chest and strikes fear into the hearts of your opponents. This is a place that teams used to come to die. Now we have returned."

"Why did the Smugglers leave the Elite League?" Tago asked as he stood directly on the skull of the Nar Shaddaa Smugglers logo.

"Politics," Niall said, "this moon needs a great leader. We had that once but she was taken from us."

Tago followed Niall's eyes to the midfield logo. "What am I missing?"

"You're standing on the grave of Kaitlyn Vehn, mayor of Nar Shaddaa, assassinated in 278 ABY, victorious with the Smugglers as General Manager in 276 and again in 278 posthumously. This team rallied around their fallen leader that year and took the cup home where it belongs. You are standing upon greatness, Tago. Every moment you play on this pitch you are amongst greatness. The limmie legends from years past are here, all around us. We joke internally that this place is haunted but its only the holding ground of so much history," Niall replied.

"Whoa," Tago replied, "I've got so much to live up to and learn."

"Yes," Niall said as the pair made their way back into the tunnels, "you do but you'll get there. We were all in your shoes at one time."

Tago stopped at the entrance to the team tunnel and took in the stadium one final time.

    History and legends.

Ghosts and the mysterious energy of those who had come before.

    Championships.

Nar Shaddaa was back and was ready to put the Elite League back on notice.

    New GM?
    Written by Rin Bahar

So the rumors were true. There had been whispers for a while but, it looks like it's finally happening. Schnitt Polenta, Owner, President of Limmie Operations, GM and Head of Scouting, is now just the Owner and President of Limmie Operations. Taking the roles of GM and Head of Scouting, will be former Miner's General Manager Quinn Cundertol.

This is a surprise, given that Mr. Polenta has been the GM for the team since their founding back in the Namadii Corridor League in 275. His 24 years have brought the team through ups and downs and Occupations and Cups. Most expected him to remain in the position until his retirement. His hand has brought the Pirates to the Playoffs more times than not, and with Logan Manx-Sandin coaching they've become something of a eternal contender, but never having the skill to put it all together.

Because that's the problem isn't it. For all their success they haven't been able to bring home the cup, the talent, with Iris Copin leading the way, just hasn't been able to get it done like they should. Maybe that is the reason for this shake up. Logan is a legend and dismissing him would likely lead anger from the fans. Something had to change and Mr. Polenta chose to take a step back.

Only time will tell if this change will work. I was able to reach out to Mr. Cundertol for comment and his reply was rather terse.

"I am glad for the opportunity to manage another team. I am quite interested in tapping into the potential of the Carratos Junior Leagues. Something that I was complicated by the draft."

Seems the new GM is taking to the insular recruiting tactics of Carratos, though one wonders if there could be other plans afoot.

On the back of this announcement many long time players have chosen to retire, chief among them the midfield pair of Natsu Dragon, and Grey Fullbaster, along with team captain Erza Scar'lett. The trio was drafted off the board in 285 and won two rings in 291 and 293. After 14 years together they have chosen to hang up their cleats. That and the Pirates being unable to come to terms with Jai Mudros and Pas'cal Siam leaves them with a hole in the midfield which will have to be filled. Along with other holes in the defense which is due for an overhaul given their ranking last season. The new GM has much on his plate to deal with.

I reached out to Coach Manx-Sandin to get his thoughts and they were enlightening.

"Well, I'm glad Schnitt is taking some stress off him. No one can do all those jobs on their own. As to if I will work well with the new GM, we'll see. As long as I get at least some input on player signings I'll be happy. I'm sure there will be a feeling out period but we will work through it. And as long as we win, the fans will be happy."

It is a new era for Pirate's limmie, and it is too soon to call if it will be good, or bad.

Players Retiring or released from the team:

Ard Borne Zygerrian, Male Goalkeeper, has retired from the sport of limmie
Natsu Dragon Midfielder, has retired from the sport of limmie
Grey Fullblaster Midfielder, has retired from the sport of limmie
Erza Scar'lett Half Back, has retired from the sport of limmie
'Queen' Anne Ocracoke Human, Female, Full Back, has retired from the sport of limmie
Brisket Human, Female Forward, has retired from the sport of limmie
Simon Salahi Human, Male, Back, has retired from the sport of limmie
Nika Kucherov Human, Female, Half Forward is now a free agent
Jai Mudros Human, Male, Midfielder is now a free agent
Pas'cal Siam Human, Male, Midfielder is now a free agent

    Players Signed by the Pirates

Thi Xon Pantoran Male Back Signed from West O'Pahz Limmie Club U-20
Shoaneb Nevil Quaren Female Midfielder Signed Bar'ton Limmie Club U-20
Lychosik Shistavanen Female Midfielder Signed Bar'ton Limmie Club U-20

    • BBC Sports' man-on-the-street Horst Penn collected reactions from beings in Salis D'aar.
      • "The Pirates are already a problem for the Miners. With Cundertol they're going to be even worse. We probably are never going to win a game against them ever."
      • "Typical. Molierre Cundertol sold us out to the Ssi-Ruuk and now Quinn's selling our secrets to the Pirates."
      • "I kind of hate a four-time Cup winner going to a team like the Pirates, but I have to admit we started it first by signing Leigh. Right now, that's looking like the long end of the stick for us. We've got two Cups as a result and we were in years of declining returns with Cundertol."
      • "Two seasons. Tops. That's how long Cundertol lasts on Carratos. He'll annoy the entire planet with his smugness so fast that they kick him out."
      • "It was the Miners who got rid of him so we shouldn't be mad he went elsewhere. Wait a second, did he quit? Now I can't exactly remember how it happened..."
      • "I say good for Quinn. He drafted me, so he's got to be pretty smart."

    Six Boroughs Stadium
    Opening Day
    300 ABY

Tago finished lacing up his cleats, adjusted his socks, and then began the long walk out with Niall Rian to the pitch. He fought off his nerves, fought off his eagerness to play the game, the old feelings of taking to the pitch again, and also his own fears of his season ending injury from ten months prior.

"Remember to touch the jersey," Niall said, "you're a Smuggler you're one of us. Remember its for luck."

Tago gulped as he watched Jade Enders, Aurora Windreaver, Zelena Wiles, Jenny Wiles, and the other veterans reach out to touch the remnants of Rhia Grames' jersey. He felt his own fingertips brush the cloth and felt in that moment a spark of inspiration and hope. Maybe, just maybe, there was something here to the old stories about the ghosts of Six Boroughs.

"Introducing," the PA system boomed, "your Nar Shaddaa Smugglers!"

    Fireworks exploded.

    Lights came on.

    Magic happened.

Tago was stunned. The stadium was absolutely packed. The roar of the crowd was so deafening it threatened to take Tago's breath way. It seemed all he could do to focus on his jog out onto the grassy field of Six Boroughs. Thick smoke hung in the air, quickly being vented out, from the pyrotechnics that had gone off as the team first took the pitch.

"Tago! That's my guy! Tago!" A Smuggler's fan screamed as Tago emerged from the tunnel still in shock and awe.

"Gentlebeings, please remain standing for the Nar Shaddaa anthem!" The PA system boomed once more.

Tago assembled at midfield facing the press boxes along the longest axis of the stadium. The entire team was there. All of them linking arms for the first time in solidarity. The power of this moment, the memories, would never leave him.

"You practice the lyrics, kid?" Niall asked.

    "Yeah," Tago replied, "I did."

"Here we go," Niall said with a squeeze.

Tago closed his eyes as the most beautiful hymn and anthem erupted all around him. The people of Nar Shaddaa sang together as one first in Huttese then in Basic. A people normally divided by politics stood together as friends and family. A people divided by language. A people divided between rich and poor. All of that was gone as the anthem was belted out by all in attendance. A people divided no longer for they had come together to celebrate the beautiful game as one.

Tago felt his spirit soar as the entire stadium continued to sing. He could feel the energy of the fans rippling across the field. The excitement and love for the beautiful game. The chance for families to share their love of Elite League Limmie with their loved ones for the first time in several years. He took a peek to his side as the anthem began to wrap up. He caught sight of tears slipping down Niall Rian's face, there was Zelena Wiles barely holding it together, and head coach Shady Lerouex raising a fist in solidarity with the Smugglers Moon that had given her everything in life.

    The anthem ended.

    The crowd roared.

"Good hunting," Tago said to Niall as Niall took the pitch.

"Always," Niall said with a smile.

Tago jogged off the field and took his position on the bench. He wasn't a starter. He hadn't earned the right to wear burgundy and black in live action in a game yet. Coach Leroux had made it clear only the best would start. She knew he had talent. Everyone did. Talent alone wasn't going to push him to the starting lineup. Still he wanted so badly to participate in the game.

    Next time.

"He seems to be doing OK so far, the Mercs had a good draft."

    IC: Lucie Vigo

“Gosh it’s quiet,” I say out loud.

Geoff chuckles, “What are you talking about. Cambrielle was never home. It’s been quiet in this house since the day we bought it.”

Geoff has a point, but I miss Cammie. “I can’t believe she went all the way to Corellia,” I continue with my self-pity. I rest my head on Geoff’s broad chest and close my eyes. It feels just like it did when Ty passed. The kids would go to bed and we’d sit up at night so I didn’t have to be alone. Geoff scared of the feelings he was developing wanted to leave. I made him stay. Eventually, I confessed that I didn’t just need him I had feelings too. There were no kids upstairs now. This wasn’t even the same house. The only thing that remained from those days was Ezra’s cat. Lupé, had never gone to college. She ruled the house now. I could feel her eyes on me from the easy chair where she kept watch.

The next morning I got up and went to the theater where I was overseeing another production. Too similar to the last and boring. I wasn’t needed here. I wasn’t having fun in my role here anymore. I just needed to get out of the house. As I scrolled mindlessly through social media a post caught my eye. Open tryouts for the Starkillers dance team. I missed those days. The roar from a million fans. Or dodging trash from rival fans on other planets. How do you miss that? Why do I miss that?

Suddenly I’m in my speeder, headed home to find an outfit. A try-out outfit. I steal a short skirt out of Cammie’s closet and find a brightly colored crop top. Thankfully Geoff is in the basement lifting. He never comes up to see what I’m doing. I just holler down that I came home for lunch. I park several blocks from the stadium and walk in the front entrance. I have a jacket over my outfit and the security guard recognizes me. “Wasn’t expecting you Ms. Lucie,” he says.

I wave politely, focused on my destination the end of the audition line. It takes about 30 minutes for someone with a clip board to approach. “Name,” the unenthused young lady says not recognizing me.

“Lucie Martin,” I reply. Using my father’s first name as my last name actually fools the young lady. She has no idea who I am. She assigns me a number and tells me I’m in group 5. My audition is in an hour. I take a seat on the marble floor with my bag and 1,000’s of young dancers. Male, female and alien all of them under 25. I’m 47. When group 4 is called I stand and jog in place, then I do some jumping jacks, high knees, butt kicks and begin to stretch. An old body can’t dance without a warm-up. Most young bodies can’t either so I don’t stand out by warming up.

We file in. I take a spot near the middle. The lead dancer from last year’s team shows us some quick choreography. This is where 80% of the dancers are weeded out. You pick up the moves quick and you're sharp or you’re out. After running through the routine with us twice she turns on the music and we dance. I know this routine, the Starkillers dance team did it last season. At the end of the routine a woman on the side of the room calls out 6 numbers. I look down and confirm I got the callback.

It’s another 90 minutes before I’m back in the audition room. This time it’s me and 19 other dancers. I can see some of the judges whispering. Finally, one of them boldly calls out, “Lucie Vigo? Is that you?”

“In the flesh,” I’ve always heard that in holos and it seemed appropriate.

Now everyone in the room is staring at me. A 47 year old woman in a skirt so short my underwear show when I lean over slightly or jump in the air and a crop top. There’s a long pause, “Let’s see what you got, Ms. Vigo,” the woman says.

Everyone else there to audition takes a step back. The music begins and I improvise. I pretend I’m at home in my studio. I let my feet guide me. I don’t forget to shake my booty or show off my chest. This isn’t a show in my theater. This is the kind of dance that excites an audience. Brings them to their feet. Perhaps brings an unexpected baby into the galaxy. I’d like to think I can create a little magic, even at my age.

When the music stops I strike a pose and breath. “You still got it.” I hear an amazed voice say. It’s the young woman who had written my name on the clipboard. Her eyes popping out of her head.

“Thank you,” I say with the warmest smile I can muster. “Do you want to see more? Or did I make the team?”

“You made the team,” a young man says stepping forward with a clip board of his own. "First practice is tomorrow at 6PM. Does that work for you?”

“I’ll be here.” I look around the room at the other dancers still waiting to finish their auditions. “Good Luck,” I say as I walk to the corner of the room where I stashed my bag. I pick it up swing it over my shoulder and head out. Mission accomplished.

“Where have you been?” Geoff says when I get home. I’ve changed my clothes, but I’m sure there’s something about my body language or the smile on my face that gives away I’m up to something.

“You’ll never believe this,” I say.

    “Try me.”

“I went to audition for the dance team and I made it,” I announce proudly.

“What dance team? Wait you mean the Starkillers, no, wait, no, you did, didn’t you?”

I shrug my shoulders, “I did.”

The practices are fun, the uniforms are revealing and the shuttle is crowded. I have to share a bed with a girl young enough to be my daughter in a hotel next to Six Boroughs. I would say that I don’t know what I’ve gotten myself into, but there were about 20 media interviews on Ralltiir before I left. The whole planet will have their eyes glued to the holo for this game. Most of them will be tuned in to see if Alyada can pick up where she left off last season and continue with her winning ways. Plenty of them will also be tuning in to see if I’m really going to do this. A 47 year old woman with a son on the team. He’s acting like he could care less. Insisting that my presence won’t affect his game. I blot my lipstick and adjust my bra one last time before I run out on to the field.
