    IC: Vienna Harlow
    Tiarest University, Salis D’aar, Bakura

When everyone knew who you were on campus, you got invited to parties.

Vienna wouldn’t have shown up to this sorority party if it hadn’t been for Alix and the limmie brunch crew. Once they heard about it, everyone had wanted to go. “It’ll be so much fun.” “They have a beautiful house. I’ve always wanted to see the inside of it.” “I hear they have this specialty drink that has a secret recipe that’s so good.” “This is the party to be at. All the cutest beings will be there.”

Vienna knew that none of them would get to go if she didn’t go with them. Vienna didn’t think much of beings who were so shallow as to make invitations conditional on if you brought a famous friend. That didn’t seem like the kind of party worth going to.

But these were her friends and if she could do something nice for them, she would. That’s why Vienna found herself standing in a crowded, loud house party located on the fringe of the Tiarest campus. Most beings were drunk or most of the way there. It only took Vienna one sniff of the mixed drink thrust into her hand when she’d arrived for her to figure out why everyone was three sheets to the wind. She thought it was too sweet (definitely covering up a copious amount of alcohol). The only reason she still held the mostly-warm concoction was solely so no one tried to give her more.

The party had an undercurrent of delirium that Vienna attributed to the Miners’ victory over Geonosis earlier in the day. It put them in position to clinch a playoff spot next week. Vienna had once again been compelled to the game by her mom. Though she could have tried pleading that she wasn’t up for the publicity of being in the owner’s box, Vienna imagined that would ring hollow after allowing Elfie to use her name at the grant announcement. It was a price she had to pay to get credits for a good cause.

Having gotten up to make it to the Gardens, today was a day that had started early and gone late. “Hey, I’m going to go,” Vienna told Alix. She nearly had to yell over the music to be heard. “Long day.”

“What? Party too much with the Miners? Lame,” Alix shouted back. They both knew it was a joke.

Vienna patted her friend on the back and snaked her way out of the party into the night air. The cool air after the muggy heat of the party was refreshing. She poured her drink out near the roots of a bush (it was still kind of water—and those bushes had probably absorbed worse) and looked for some place to throw away the disposable cup. She spotted a trash receptacle around the corner of the house.

As she rounded the bend, Vienna was confronted with two coeds…having a lot of fun on the ground. Vienna turned her head away instinctively, not wanting to intrude. It wasn’t the most romantic place she could think of, but she wasn’t one to judge. She’d find another place to throw—

    “Stop. No stop.”

The drunken moan caused Vienna’s head to whip around and the cup to fall from her hand to the grass. The female on top continued with unabated vigor as the male beneath her struggled limply.

“Oh come on. Almost there,” she said as she leaned into it.

    “HEY. STOP,” Vienna shouted.

    Her words had no effect.

“HE SAID STOP,” Vienna continued, now moving towards the couple.

“Mind your own business,” she said without turning around.

That was when Vienna made a decision.

Vienna lifted her head from her crossed arms on the table when she heard the door slide open. She wondered if she’d fallen asleep. She felt like she’d been up forever.

“Thank you for waiting,” the police officer said, sitting down in a utilitarian chair identical to the one Vienna was in. They were separated by a functional table that screamed “public sector bulk purchasing” even more than the bland, beige walls that surrounded them. “I’m sure you’d like to get home.”

    Vienna didn’t say anything.

“Before we begin, I want you to know what you’re getting into here,” the officer said, “The female in question denies the allegation you’ve made. The male was so drunk that he can’t remember much of what happened.”

“He said, ‘Stop. No stop,’” Vienna said flatly. She didn’t think she’d ever forget it.

“I understand that’s what you heard,” the officer said, “but the female you’ve accused…” The officer paused and pursed his lips. “She’s a member of the Tiarest limmie team. That means this case is going to get a lot of attention. Media attention. Sometimes in high profile cases like this it can be uncomfortable to give evidence, especially when the accused is a prominent member of the community. I know you want to do the right thing, but this could be very difficult for you.”

Vienna said nothing, but looked the officer right in the eyes. If looks could kill, Vienna would be the one in custody.

“You should think about your future here,” the officer continued.

    “Where’s my attorney?” Vienna asked.

    “We—”

The door slid open again, admitting Atticus Eldred. “Good evening, officer.” Regan’s husband raised an inquisitive eyebrow. “I didn’t know we’d begun.” Though he delivered the sentence smoothly, there was a rebuke lurking beneath the surface.

“Oh come on man,” a new voice said from behind Atticus. It was Jax Ralter, Elfie’s husband and a Salis D’aar PD officer. “You know we take official statements in tandem. Now I’m going to have to do more paperwork to explain this.”

As Atticus set his case down on the table, Vienna turned to him. “Has any of this been recorded?”

“Officers?” Atticus inquired in turn, eyebrow still cocked.

“No, just getting the preliminaries out of the way,” the first officer said, looking at his datapad, avoiding anyone’s eeyes.

“Then how about we begin putting this on the record?” Atticus suggested. His tone of voice indicated it wasn’t much of a suggestion.

“You and I are having a talk later,” Jax muttered to his counterpart as he flipped the recorder on. “Would you state your name for the record?” This was directed at Vienna.

Some college limmie player thought she could use the police to intimidate her? That made Vienna angry.

“My name is Vienna Harlow,” she said, “and tonight I witnessed a rape.”

That player was about to find out what happened when you crossed a member of the Noble House of Trieste.

OOC: Hello all. Some of you may remember me and some of you may not. I was a part of this RP 6-8 years ago during my first few years on these forums. I created the team the Ryloth Rough Riders and the Character Zezke Barbosa. I decided to give coming back to the forums a try and give this RP another go with a brand new team and character. My Character Sheet just got approved by Trieste so without further ado, here is my new character.

    GM Approved
    Character Sheet
    Name: Zorrin Wicks
    Species: Human
    Gender: Male
Birth Year: 278 ABY (24 years old)
    Team: Fondor Star Destroyers
Physical appearance: (Looks similar to NFL Running Back Christian McCaffrey)

    Homeworld: Dantooine
    Relation to Team: Player
Brief Biography: Zorrin grew up in a small farming community on the planet Dantooine. His parents were Kath Hound ranchers who bred, raised, and exported the local animals to visiting off-world handlers who bought them for exhibits in zoos on nearby planets like Dubrillion and Muunilinst. Zorrin ended up working on the ranch before and after school around the age of 14 (until he left for college 4 years later) becoming the person who fed and groomed the Kath Hounds on a daily basis.

There wasn't much to the farming community where Zorrin lived since there were less than 3,000 people located there, but it was one of the larger and more popular settlements on the planet. Due to this being the case Zorrin would hear conversations among visitors about their favorite Limmie teams and the overall goings on of the many leagues across the galaxy. He was immediately intrigued and fascinated by this sport he had never heard of or knew nothing about. Eventually the place where Zorrin lived became financially stable enough that they were able to build a communications array/tower on the outskirts of town. This allowed the locals to get access to the HoloNet. Zorrin took full advantage of this and ended up convincing his parents to let him have a HoloNet receiver in his room which allowed him to fully enter into the world of Limmie. From there he was able to learn the rules of the game, read up about the history of the game, find out about past ELL Galactic Cup Champions (including a certain goalkeeper named Zeke Barbosa who led some team called the Ryloth Rough Riders to the 272 Galactic Cup Championship ;);):cool:), find out about other leagues at the college and “minor league” level and even catch a game broadcast or two. He became such a big fan of the sport that he ended up starting an after school Limmie Club that he and his classmates participated in. It even got to the point where a mini Limmie League started up between the farming town Zorrin lived in and the other local settlements in nearby areas of the planet.

Working on a farm allowed Zorrin to gain a lot of endurance, stamina and upper body strength (those bags of feed for the Kath Hounds are heavier than they look). Which is why some scouts of small time schools in nearby systems heard about this local kid from a small farming community on Dantooine from some of the visitors that came to said farming community. Some even offered scholarships to Zorrin to play for their team once he graduated. Eventually Zorrin accepted an opportunity to play for Jygat Tech on Mygeeto since it was the closest planet to Dantooine that offered him a scholarship. From there his popularity and recognition only grew as he ended up having the best 4 year stretch a Limmie player had ever had at Jygat Tech. This lead to him being drafted by the former ELL team Fondor Freedom, renamed the Fondor Star Destroyers under new management, as a Top 10 pick in his draft class. Moving forward Zorrin looks to continue his surge/rise through the Limmie ranks to hopefully one day bring Fondor its first ELL Galactic Cup Championship in over 60 years and go down as one of the best to ever do it.

OOC again: The team sheet for the aforementioned Fondor Freedom, now named Fondor Star Destroyers, will be posted in the coming days as well as (hopefully) an introduction post for this new character and team in Zorrin's POV.

OOC: @Trieste please disregard my bonus roll in association with this post. I haven't been as active this season and not fair

    IC: IS-86

    Playoffs Pre Game

IS-86 had experienced an eventful year. A few weeks after cleaning around the Smugglers facility the defensive coordinator had left their game plan for the following week and IS-86 rapidly analyzed the game plan, made some adjustments, and submitted it to the head coach. It was all really easy math and analytics on the droids part. Someone in the front office found out that the defensive coordinator wasn't the one coming up with the game plan and that person was relieved of duties. IS-86 was promoted as he came forth with the truth, the droid's systems unwilling to lie to superiors, to defensive coordinator and the rest was history. A quick check in with the ELL authorized the promotion as it was unusual to have a non sentient life form covering the beautiful game much less calling plays.

The Smugglers defense had been reborn and the team was slowly, very slowly, starting to believe that they had a shot at a title. It was a long shot as they had to go through the Mercs to get there but for the Smuggler faithful and those in the organization that had been around awhile they wanted nothing else but to go against their old rivals for a shot at the glory.

IS-86 created a game plan and now the droid was determined to see it through to victory. Still, though, there was always that random chance that the Mercs could throw a wrench in the works and pull plays that hadn't been put on film yet. That was always a possibility. Albeit a slim chance.

    BBC Sports headlines
    • Atalanta University head coach leaves to join the Corulag Swoops.
      • Atalanta promises a wide-ranging search to replace him.
    • Miners host Nar Shaddaa for the final game of the season with a playoff spot on the line.
      • Some fans express indignation over a droid serving as the Mercs' defensive coordinator.
      • "It's bad enough we let them be on Bakura these days, but they're here to do things we shouldn't have to do as sentient beings. Now they're taking good jobs away from hard-working beings. What's next? They fire all the players and replace them with droids?"

"LIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE! From downtown Keldabe, on a sunny and warm Victory afternooooon. Welcome on into the Rancor Pitt, here on your wave home of the reigning Galactic Cup Champion Mando'ade Mercs. I'm Randy the Rancor, he's Justin Pitt. Liz over on the boards, with Kitterich on the other side of the glass and oh baby do we have a lot to talk about today."

    "Revenge!"

"Some say it's a dish best served cold, I say it's something any Pirates should be familiar with..."

    "Ha!"

"Especially those of the Carrotan variety as the Mercs defeat the Pirates 31 to three avenging their week three loss to the Pirates, who I still hate."

"Maybe a little less today than yesterday?"

"...as that remains their only win on the season." Randy paused as he finally heard what Justin said. "Yeah maybe a little less."

    "Ha!"

"Of course it helps that the win also clinched the Commissioner's Trophy for the Mercs..."

"Pirates actually won that last season."

"..and more importantly they will play host to the galactic Cup Finals as the number one seed also earns them a first round bye in the playoffs."

    "Gotta love contraction."

"Defending their Galactic Cup title from last year, on home ground, Meshla Vhetin is going to be nuts..."

"As if it isn't already crazy enough as it is there."

"Second year in a row that our magnificent stadium will play host to the Galactic Cup Finals, let's hope once again the result is the same."

    "Yeah no kidding."

"Of course this year Meshla Vhetin is also playing host to the collegiate championship game in the form of the Beskar Bowl..."

    "Presented by MandalMotors!"

"..and of naturally as with last year the Skimmer ade championship as well."

"In a few weeks all eyes in the limmie galaxy will be turned to Meshla Vhetin and Mando'yaim."

    "Mand'alor Taab must be thrilled."

"He'll be even more thrilled if the Mercs, Crusaders and Warriors can bring home titles to the mando'ade."

"Game was never really in doubt."

"Yeah Warriors were just too much for them there."

"Meanwhile in the Sienar Bowl number 13 Concord War College defeated number 12 Coruscant Polytechnic Institute 21 to 17 and will now go on to face their 'ori'vod' (big brother) for a chance to play for a Collegiate championship."

"That Skimmer Ade game is going to be huge, it would be like UBSD taking on Tiarest for a chance at the title.""

"Or The Ord Sabaok University taking on GVSU."

    "No not quite that big."

"Still it, doesn't get much bigger than that for the folks here at home."

    "No it doesn't."

"On the other side of the bracket number two University of Tatooine continued to hold serve in the SoroSuub Bowl defeating number seven University of Zeltros 26 to 16."

"Both of the top two seeds still in this going into the Fantastic Four."

"Would make for one fantastic finish if they both move on to the finals!"

"While in the Mining Guild Bowl number 11 University of Denon, Eastlake defeated number 14 Ackbar Air Fleet College, Dac 21 to 19..."

"UD didn't managed to beat AAFC's trap defense late in the game to take that one."

"I'm Ken Kitterich and this has been your five by five sports update. I'll be back with you next hour at five after the hour but until then more of the Rancor Pitt, right here on the Fandalorian!"

For once I’m a pretty happy girl. I get to travel to Carratos, stay in a nice hotel, play a Limmie game and come home to a friend. My very own best friend that I get to marry and live happily ever after. This is as close as a real life fairy tale as there is. Of course I get to live it, I’m rich. I get it. But there’s nothing I can do about that. I was born this way.

Still maybe we can win on Carratos. I’m not sure why that franchise is going through such a slump, but we need to take advantage of whatever we can, because as usual we are also slugging along in the bottom of the ELL pack. Somehow, someway we often sneak our way into the play-offs, but it’s seeming pretty unlikely this season. I put those thoughts aside and focus on the game this week. It’s what I’ve trained myself to do. Put all those negative thoughts and all the talk of “what if’s” in the back of my mind where I can’t hear them.

I know this could be the last time I travel for a while, so I make the best of it. I bring my usual favorite blanket and pillow on the team shuttle and pick out a bunk early so I can have my own little hide-out for the entire trip. I love the bunks on the team shuttle. Some beings might find them claustrophobic, but you couldn’t convince me there’s anything better than having your own private little space to hide away in. Probably comes from growing up in my own private room.

I have so much to think about on the flight. Am I going to remodel my room and have James move in with me? Should I keep my room, maybe we can renovate another room, but I can still go hang out there when I need my own space. Yes! That’s the best idea. Luckily we have lots of fresher’s upstairs so James and I won’t have to share. I never want to share a fresher with anyone, especially not a guy. Limmie locker rooms have taught me that my home fresher where I can spread out my things is the most essential thing ever.

The flight goes by fast, I sleep some, I plan out my future. I sure hope I’m ready for this Limmie game. I have a lot of fans back home that have faith in me or my team. That’s what I tell my team in the huddle before we take the field. The fans back home are counting on us. Let’s give them a win.

Another regular season in the books! Bonus potential for Bakura, Mando'ade, Nar Shaddaa (even though they said they didn't want it, Bakura's the team most likely to be disadvantaged by it so clearly it needs to happen [face_laugh]), and Ralltiir.

    Bakura

What day was it? When did she have to go to work? Was there a game today? Did it matter anymore? All she had left was going to work, because, it was all she could do to try and recover from the break in. She dipped into what meger savings she had to pay for a mattress, a slightly used one but it was a bed. Now started the long road to replacing her fridge.

It was odd what you considered important, the hierarchy of needs when you need to replace first and what can wait. While wallowing was fun for a day or two but eventually she needed to sleep in a bed rather than that floor, her back was playing her up. And for food, well, she does get free meals at the bar, and rice and beans keep for a good long time.

The thing at the back of the line was the holoprojector...as diverting as it was, it didn't help her sleep, or help her eat. Even if it would distract her from her current predicament, it wasn necessary for life.

Besides it rots your brain, right?

Though the worst thing about this there's no one to talk to, not outside of work. She was just left with her thoughts, with all the things she said to her mother, all the things her mother said to her, all the missed opportunities that just slipped through her fingers. It ate away at her how she just gave up because her mother looked disapproving of her choices. How different could her life have been? Her heart wanted to believe that she would be playing with the Pirates right now, pushing them towards the galactic final.

The reality was she likely would be at best playing for the local teams, maybe do some things in college but that was likely beyond her. But, at least the dream ended on her terms, at least she would have gotten to play the sport she loved.

She'd turned these thoughts over and over in her head again and again, sending her spiraling further and further down. It just sucked the life out of her and she didn't have anything to give her that life back. No Dyo, no games, all the things that give her life she couldn't have.

So she was left just laying in bed staring at the ceiling.

She didn't know what time it was or how long she'd been there when the door bell rang.

Her body instantly snapped up her heart racing. Who was coming to her door? Carefully she padded out into the front room, in the pajamas she hadn't changed for days. Looking out the sensor she saw someone she wasn't expecting, her mother.

"What do you want…" Sin asked with all the energy of a battery that hadn't been charged in months.

    "Sinee, are you ok?"

"No mom, I'm fine, I'm fine I just had my entire life turned upside down and had my hopes and dreams crushed."

Sinee's mom furrowed her brow for a moment then took a breath.

"I'm sorry Sinee, I'm sorry I didn't think all those years ago, I'm sorry that you felt like I put pressure on you, and I'm sorry that I put my wants ahead of yours and didn't listen. I know that this doesn't make up for it but, maybe...maybe you can start to forgive me? Or just let me offer you some help?"

"What are you going to do?"

"Well, you're father and I were talking."

"Daddy's back?" She started with maybe just a little more enthusiasm.

"Yes, his ship has returned, and while...we don't have enough to get you to Carratos...maybe it could be the start for next year?"

"Really?" Sin asked stunned by the gesture. "You're going to help?"

"Yes," Her mother looked away almost ashamed of giving money to her daughter. "I...I never realized what I was doing, I just thought I was doing what was best…"

Sin took in a breath ready to start another fight.

"And I realize that I was wrong, and I'm sorry Sinee. I know this won't fix it but I want to do something to help. And your father does too."

"You're just going to give this to me? No strings?"

"Well…" Mom took another breath, "No strings, but, your father would like you to use it to go see a game. Or whatever you find fun."

"I will mom…" For the first time in forever she wrapped her arms around her mother giving her a hug, tears in her eyes. She knew it was just a start, just a simple peace offering, but she didn't care. It was something at the very least some light at the end of this tunnel. "I will…"

"Oh and I might know someone replacing their fridge, it should fit in your place." Mom hugged her daughter closer, in the most show of affection she'd shown in years.

    "Thanks...mom...thanks."

    IC: Vienna Harlow
    Bakura Gardens, Salis D’aar, Bakura

“Vienna? Not being dragged kicking and screaming to the Gardens? Bless my stars.”

“Hi Grandpa,” Vienna said, hugging Dorian Lynd, interrupting his feigned surprise. “I didn’t expect to see you here either. I thought you would have been with Aunt Vesper and Dorian.” The second Dorian was Vienna’s cousin, Vesper’s eldest child and star player. Vienna was grateful she didn’t have to work with her mother and hoped things were going well for cousin Dorian in that regard.

“And miss the opportunity to see all the Vehns and remind them that their whiskey is thin swill? Perish the thought,” Dorian the elder said. He punctuated the thought with a sway of the glass in his hand, filled with said spirit. “Vesper will be all right without me in attendance for a week. Enough about them. You, young lady, have been keeping busy.”

Vienna lowered her eyes bashfully. “I didn’t mean for it to become such a thing.”

“I rather doubt that,” Dorian said skeptically, but without criticism.

They didn’t need to specify what they were talking about. It had exploded into the stratosphere of pop culture, politics, and sport through the Tiarest student newspaper before getting picked up by the Times and the BBC.

    VIENNA HARLOW THWARTS CAMPUS RAPE

    We here at the
Burgundian read the SDPD police blotter as a matter of course—usually as the kind of boring chore that “real” journalists do. Imagine our surprise upon discovering the arrest of Tiarest’s star limmie player Sereza Vidraco on rape charges.

And our jaws dropped when we found out it’s on the statement of none other than the tsarina of Tiarest herself, Vienna Harlow.

While the statement hasn’t been released to the public, we’ve learned from people who were present when SDPD responded to the scene that Harlow was “insistent” on giving evidence in the matter.

More shockingly, an anonymous tip to the
Burgundian informed us that an SDPD officer attempted to dissuade Harlow from giving evidence, citing the high profile nature of the case, potential backlash that she would face, and he-said-she-said dynamics.

We aren’t surprised that Harlow made the statement anyways. She might have rocketed to notoriety thanks to the strong arms of Gerald Riviera and the posh company she keeps, but there’s substance beneath her shine. She’s working on fixing long-standing health inequities and thoughtfully called out the most powerful sports league in the galaxy for its compensation model. Why not add taking on rape culture to the to-do list?

We’re proud to call Vienna Harlow a classmate, because Bakura needs more like her.

Vienna rolled a response around in her mouth before replying to her grandfather. “If people are going to pay attention to me, I might as well say something important.”

“That’s the Lynd in you,” Dorian said, mussing his granddaughter’s hair playfully. “Your grandmother would be so proud of you.”

“I think we’re all proud of her for standing up and doing the right thing,” Vienna’s mother Ginnifer said, joining them.

“Thanks, Mom,” Vienna said as she smoothed her hair back into something presentable. Given their vastly different ideas they had about how Ginnifer should run her life, the praise gave Vienna a surprising, tight warmth in her chest. She wouldn’t have said that she’d been longing for her mother’s approval, but suddenly having it made her think maybe she had. “I guess you were right about the good things you can do when beings pay attention to you.”

Her mom hummed noncommittally as she reached for a bottle from the nearby counter of alcohol. “Perhaps. But I was more interested in having a good time at your age. You have me beat there.” She smiled.

“And do we have Atticus to thank for that well-timed leak about the conduct of the SDPD?” Dorian asked, one eyebrow raised. He knew any Trieste in Salis D’aar was likely to have him present as their attorney.

“Right idea, wrong Eldred,” Vienna said, her eyes sliding to Trixie. According to Jax, when Trixie had found out about the attempted application of pressure, the District Attorney hadn’t exploded. She’d done something worse: she’d been quiet. Vienna did not want to be that officer, even if he had the union behind him.

“Come on. The game’s starting. I think everyone needs to see you when it does. For justice.”

Vienna took her mom’s hand. “For justice.”

By the time they’d gotten down to the field to watch the Truce Day fireworks, everyone had already seen the out-of-town scores on their datapads. The Miners had gotten no breaks and were the first team out of the playoffs, the worst of all possible scenarios. Not only was there no shot at a Cup this year, but they were stuck behind other teams in the draft order. With the Mercs going straight to the Galactic Cup Final, their extra first rounder from the trade at the 302 Draft wasn’t looking like it would be worth much either.

It didn’t help that they’d been grossly outmaneuvered by a droid plotting the Smuggler defense. That wasn’t going to go over well in the media tomorrow.

But that was tomorrow. Tonight there were fireworks and Vienna pointed her face to the sky to enjoy this moment. The blues, reds, greens, yellows, oranges, and whites of light flooded the stadium, full despite the Miners’ poor showing. Vienna had grown up watching these fireworks. Though the entire city could watch them, the beings in the stadium constituted .15% of Bakura’s population. And Vienna had always been one of them.

There were some perks to being in the 1%.

    “Something arrived for you.”

Vienna turned from the sky to the voice at her side. It was Regan. She was looking up at the show, but had an envelope in one hand, casually pointed towards Vienna. It was flimsi, but it was anything but flimsy. It looked solid, official.

“I’ve seen several of these, but rarely do they ever come to someone outside the organization,” Regan continued.

Vienna took it and slipped the seal open to remove a single heavy stock card.

    Elite League Limmie cordially invites
    Vienna Harlow
to attend the 303 Limmie Awards

“You’ve made quite the impression, Vienna,” Regan said.

The young woman looked back to the heavens. “Guess so.”

“They probably just want you there to feed the media’s obsession.”

    “Probably.”

    “Going to go?”

Vienna turned the invitation over in her hands without looking at it, still watching the fireworks.

“I’ll have to check my calendar,” Vienna said.

Regan smiled. “I think you’re the only one on this field who would have to.”

“I know,” Vienna said. She couldn’t help but smile herself.

    LOGAN OUT
    By Rin Bahar

A bloodbath not only from the player core, but the front office as well this afternoon. Nine players have been cut from the team in a drastic action taken after missing the playoffs and a humiliating 1-9 season from the Pirates. The more shocking release was that of long time Coach and Pirates Legend Logan Manx-Sandin. Manx-Sandin had been the full time coach starting 284 and led the team to two cup victories in his tenure. It was assumed that given his status as Hero of Carratos that his position would be secured until he gave it up. Our assumptions seem to be wrong. The announcement came at 12:00 O'Phaz time.

The Carratos Pirates organization has come to terms on the release of Logan Manx-Sandin and wish him the best on his future endeavors.

With this short message posted to their Holonet, the Golden Eye era comes to an end. Logan was head coach for 18 years, and at the forefront of the team as they became one of the most popular teams in the league. Though the shine had waned in recent years and viewing figures for the team had fallen off as well. Though home attendance remained stubbornly unchanged even with the Pirate's lackluster performance.

Also released was Quinn Cundertol fromer Miner's GM hired in 299 to revitalize the Pirates and having mixed results in his 4 year term, ending with the disastrous 1-9 season that closed recently.

This is a major development that not everyone is happy with. Fans have taken to social media to decry the loss of their Legend.

Manx-Sandin has released a statement following the announcement:

Thank you for the outpouring of support. It means a lot it really does. But, don't cast blame on Quinn, he did his best. And maybe it is time for a change, for me and the team. I don't know what I'm doing next but, I think I might finally take some time to be with my wife and kid.

Cundertol did not reply to my requests for comment, and has not made any statement at time of reporting.

Defensive Coordinator Boutros Sabah resigned stating the loss of her friend and coach Logan as the reason.

The Pirates are now left with a head coach and GM role to fill. Casting a wide net this time it seems. No one has been named as Interm for the time being.

With the player cuts came an infusion of new blood on the team drawn again from the youth leagues on Carratos. Some habits die hard it seems.

Only time will tell if this new era is a bright one.

    Editorial:

    WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?
By Vinn Zar, Editor of the Sports Section: Carratos Journal

Seriously, what is the Pirates front office thinking, what is Mr. Polenta thinking. I can understand wanting a change to try something different after a few years of down play but to release Logan, Old One Eye Manx-Sandin, that is madness. They didn't even give him a promotion or even just give him an 'Ambassador' role in the office, they just cut him like so many other players. This is the man that led our planet through the worst time we'd seen since the Empire. He was the face of the opposition, of hope in the darkest days of the Occupation. He kept us together and fighting when there was no hope. Again, I'm not saying that they were absolutely wrong in removing him as head coach (though I do think it is a bit of a rash decision) no. They are wrong in just cutting him entirely from the team.

Already we have messages of anger directed at the front office, the hashtag #Boycott Pirates is trending in local social media and I am with them. He is more than just a man, he is an icon, a legend, and the Pirates are fools to just let him go.

I can understand cooling on him after this year, the stats don't lie it was a rough one. And maybe there needed to be a shake up but, you don't kill the Golden Boy. Now all you've done is turn your hardcore fans against you. And don't give me this 'As long as they win fans will come back' I'm seeing from off world fans. No, no we will not. This is Carratos, the Pirates could go undefeated next season and we wouldn't show up. They got rid of our hero, the man we look up to. My son and many other children born after the Occupation are named Logan or Logana in his honor. My son has never known a time when Logan wasn't the Head Coach, he took inspiration from the man when he decided to take up Limmie full time.

He wanted nothing more than to be coached by his namesake, the man he'd idolized since he could walk and now, when that chance is right before him. It is taken away. I am proud of my son being called up to the Pirates but, I can only imagine the pain he's feeling now. Getting to play for the team but not under the coach that inspired him.

I know I'm not the only one dealing with this issue. Many limmie parents are feeling let down by the Pirates.

We don't need new coaches, or a GM, we just want Logan.

"LIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE! From downtown Keldabe, on a sunny and warm Taungsday afternooooon.

"Well that wasn't the best way to end the season..."

"No, no it wasn't but at least the Mercs have the Galactic Cup Finals to look forward to even after dropping a 16 to one decision to the Geonosis Gangbusters, a team that itself is not playoff bound."

"Two worst losses of the year were to the two worst teams in the League...'

"Yeah no kidding, both shutdown losses but hey we're in and they're not so we can hold our heads high I suppose."

"Tough to do after a loss like that, but I am sure Coach Kirt will use it to motivate her troops here in the off week for the Mercs."

"Easer to motivate after a loss like that?"

"Oh for sure, for sure. Yeah it's embarrassing, and it might give whoever wins between the Strugglers and Starkillers a blueprint of what to do to the Mercs in the finals, but the value of really grabbing the player's attention with a loss, to inform the coaches of what needs to be done to shore up the Mercs play, that can be invaluable."

    "And with the extra week..."

"You know Coach Kirt will use very minute of it."

"Of course the bigger news around the league is the Massacre out on Carratos with staff and players being given their walking papers after their diasterous season."

"That one...that shocks me, yeah they had a bad year but to treat Logan Manx-Sandin of all people that way..."

"Yeah if anyone had earned any extra slack it's him."

    "It's shameful really,, just shameful."

"But before we get to that, let's talk about the Mercs and the end t their season..."

    "Regular season."

    "Right, that's what I meant."

    "Sure, sure."

"Obviously they finished with the best record in the league..."

"Well, they tied for it, and then beat out the Strugglers on a tie breaker."

    "Right, OK, I get that."

    "Sure, sure."

"Fact remains, Mercs are the Commissioner Trophy winners, get the ticket straight to the Galactic Cup Finals but how did they do it? What sort of team are they, and what can the winner of next week's playoff game expect to see from them?"

"Well, Coach Kirt has a team here that is an offensive minded team."

"Second in the league in points scored, just one behind Bakura."

"A team that didn't make the playoffs."

    "Right."

"She likes to play her middies up to help on the offensive end, but sometimes she does turn things around completely and instead has them hang way, way back to help out the defense."

"Leaving the forwards totally on their own."

"Right, so two totally disparate styles of play, and she will shift it game to game and even possession to possession so opposing teams have a hard time preparing for one over the other."

    "But if you can?"

"Well Mercs were shut down twice this season, so draw your own conclusions. there."

    "Right..."

"On the defensive end, Mercs were third in points allowed behind the Strugglers and Starkillers."

"The two teams in the playoff."

    "Exactly."

"Those three teams were the best defenses in the league, and it wasn't really all that close."

    "Really?"

"Well like I said Mercs were third, allowing 162 points this season."

    "That's pretty good."

"The Gangbusters came in at fourth allowing 214 points on the year."

    "That's a big jump."

    "Yeah it is."

    "Huge really."

"Put the Mercs offense and defense together and they had the best point differential in the league."

    "Plus 59 on the season."

"That despite being shutdown twice on the season?"

    "Yup, yup, yup."

    "That's crazy."

"And just to show you how important defense is in this league, the Miners, owners of the best offense in the league also had the worst defense in the league allowing a whopping 239 points on the year for a minus 17 point differential, if they had shred that up it would have been worth a win or two and they would be playoff bound."

"I get it, I get it, you're saying defense is important.."

"Well of course I am saying that, but what I am really saying is watch out, the Mercs have the worst defense of the three teams that made the playoffs..."

"But despite getting shut down twice on the season, they have the best offense?"

"By far, that came on the strength of four 30 point plus efforts on the season, all wins obviously."

"That's why getting the bonus roll is so important in this game."

    "Huh?"

"I now interrupt your normally scheduled program..."

"So I thought I would take a moment to talk to all of you, directly. Alone. You know without the guys. So now that i have your attention I thought I would bring up something interesting here. The Mercs, like all the other teams in the league, played ten games this season, winnings seven of them and losing three. You all still with me? Good. What's interesting is in the ten games they faced exactly five teams receiving a bonus roll, and five teams that didn't have the benefit of the bonus roll. For the math challenged at home, and you know who you are, that's half of their games against bonus teams, half of their games against teams without. Now, with the Mercs record you would think that they would have maybe taken advantage of the teams without the bonus roll, but that's not what happened. Mercs went 3 and 2 against those teams. . Yeah, yeah I hear what you're saying, they did have a winning record against those teams, but two out of their three losses were to teams without a bonus roll!"

"That also means the Mercs went four and one against the teams with a bonus roll! Which is just crazy to think that they did worse against teams without a bonus roll while of course getting a bonus roll themselves every week. OK, Ok. I see that you're not as impressed by that little tidbit as I am. Maybe I am easily impressed, or maybe you're a little too difficult. Either way I found it interesting and now I am sharing that with all of you..."

This is the part of the season where I pay for our entire team not playing well in the beginning of the season. You see, we have to travel this week and my mom, well she hates travelling. Especially to a dumpy planet like Nar Shaddaa. There’s always wars breaking out and violence. But mom insists on travelling for play-off games, even though she hates it. First we have to make sure mom has enough body guards, she travels with at least one female body guard so someone can share a hotel room with her and 3-4 additional male body guards. My mom is super paranoid someone will kill her someday. You can’t even blame her, her first husband was assassinated and her second husband (my father) may have killed two people before taking his own life.

At least it makes sense why she sheltered me so much. Until now, when she can’t anymore. Once mom’s body guards are lined up I have to help her pack. My mom lost half her brain along with losing two husbands, I swear. I’ve been helping her my whole life. She has to fly a commercial flight, I thought James could fly with her but it turns out James has never even been off planet. Sometimes I forget the average Ralltiirian doesn’t have enough credits to go on vacations or travel to Limmie games the way my family does. So James doesn’t even have a proper ID for off planet travel. My brother can rush one through, but James won’t get to Nar Shaddaa until the night before kick-off. My mom needs a little more time to settle into her room. She doesn’t do long distance overnight trips.

Once I get mom off planet things do get better. They get quieter and I can have the house to myself, plus James. I’ve been studying Nar Shadda’s game and practicing too much. I want a break, I want James to teach me to fly a speeder. No one has ever taught me to fly a speeder and I want my own pilot’s license. So I can buy a speeder of my own and be a normal person. James reluctantly decides to let me get some practice in at the Starkillers parking lot. There’s a lot of room there, and no speeders. I think I’m doing a pretty good job. James holds on for dear life. “Let me fly us home,” I insist.

“It’s not a good idea, you need a permit to fly on roads.”

I have control of this speeder and I am going to fly us home. I already decided. James can argue all he wants. He read the bio before he contacted me on the dating app and he’s known me a couple months now. No one tells me what to do. I fly towards the nearest exit. James says a prayer. I laugh, this is the most fun I have ever had, and I pull out into the oncoming traffic. Despite James’ several freak outs we make it back to my house in one piece. The speeder doesn’t even have a scratch. “As soon as we win the cup, I’m applying for a permit.” I promise James.

The next morning I wake James up. “I have to go catch the team shuttle,” I remind him. James can sleep until noon. I envy James for that. I’ve been getting up at dawn my whole life and I can’t sleep past 6 AM to save my life. At least I can take afternoon naps if I need. James gets dressed quick and races downstairs so he can be sure to pilot us to the spaceport. I guess he really didn’t like my flying.

“See you on Nar Shadda,” I say as I get out of the speeder.

    James looks nervous.

    “What’s wrong?” I ask.

“Nar Shadda, Louise, what’s travelling through hyperspace like?”

I shrug, “I dunno. Just take Dramamine. A lot of Dramamine.”

(Yeah, I was definitely saving this one all season.)

How the frak did I get here? Vienna thought.

She was not the first Trieste to show up at the ELL awards show. Aunt Kerry, Falene, and Horst had been here, but they’d been nominees.

She was the first member of the Noble House of Trieste invited in their own right for no reason at all. Vienna had always assumed that the Noble House was a provincial entity, one that mattered only on Bakura and nowhere else. That was probably still true.

But it seemed if you made it big on Bakura, you could make it anywhere.

    “Vienna!”

    “Vienna!”

    “Vienna!”

Yes, they were shouting her name. Yes, they wanted holos of her because she was pretty (or so some arbiter of style had decided—Vienna still didn’t quite believe it). Yes, she was wearing a beautiful dress that had required alterations (unlike most of what she wore, which was off the rack). Yes, Vienna was living a life she had never expected or wanted for herself, one she’d actively resisted.

But she’d made beings care about health inequities on Bakura, prying loose credits from the family foundation to do something about it. But she’d seen where an economic system could work better for more beings and, inadvertently, made beings care about it (though she hadn’t done anything to fix that yet and probably wouldn’t, but beings who could were talking about it). But she’d spoken up when she’d seen something wrong and, because beings were fascinated with her, others had listened and justice had a better chance of being done.

She was not going to do this her mother’s way, with endless rounds of back-scratching circles and feel-good charity work that ended when the fundraiser was done. She was not going to change her course of study, for she had important work to do in the lab. She was not going to change who she was.

If they wanted to follow her, then she was going to take them on a ride and show them things they’d never find on their own. She wouldn’t play their game, but maybe she’d leave the galaxy a slightly better place.

Vienna Harlow graced the reporters with a large, genuine smile. She could work with this.

TAG: None, for this is the end of this season for Vienna and the Miners...which just means the next one begins soon...

“Hey there, it’s me, Bast Amun, Miners midfielder. I know what you’re thinking: ‘Ugh, who is this? Why don’t we get Harle or Bree or Rose-Lynn?’ Well that’s easy: Harle smashed her datapad with a lightball bat because that is incredibly on-brand for her, Bree is being all captain-serious and doesn’t think CatChat is a good use of her time, and Rose-Lynn only uses her datapad to be all mushy with her Pirate boyfriend. So you get me instead.

“But don’t worry: I’ve got all the hot deets you won’t find anywhere else. Speaking of, I’ve got the latest news from the Miners offseason contract negotiations. They’re going a lot better than on Carratos. I mean, can you believe what happened to Logan Manx-Sandin? Men who hyphenate after marriage deserve better.

“First off, Marnie Blake is retiring after 16 years as the Miners’ goalkeeper. Now before you go all, ‘Ugh, good riddance, she was the worst this season,’ remember she brought three Galactic Cups to Bakura. That’s as many as Alana Kirt and everyone thinks she’s one of the greatest Miners ever. We should throw her a parade or something.

“Good news though! Alexa Superspy is coming back! And why wouldn’t we bring her back after we had the best offense of anyone in 302? That’s right, even better than Alana and the Mercs.

“The team is also letting Mayce Masteratti and Vett Kranoft go. It’ll be tough having to break in another new midfielder, but if anyone’s up for it, it’s me.

“Oh right! I’ve got a new contract too! So don’t worry, I’ll be here all season long to give you the latest scoop on what’s up with the Miners. See you later, B Nation!”

Character sheet, approved by yours truly, the GM
    Name: Kassandra Kirt
    Species: Human
    Gender: Female
    Birth year: 282 ABY
    Physical appearance: [IMG]
    Homeworld: Bakura
    Relation to team: College player
Brief biography: Kassandra is glad her last name isn’t Glencross.

Don’t get her wrong: she loves her mom. She just doesn’t love Alana Glencross, Hall of Famer, winner at everything she seemingly touches. She even wins at family game night. She also wishes they looked less alike. It’s hard not to be Alana Glencross’s daughter when you look so much like her.

When she got to high school, Kassandra asked her mom to stop coaching high school limmie. She kind of felt bad about doing it, but her mom understood. Kassandra wanted to feel like she was doing something for herself. She’s even pretty sure it’s part of why her mom took the job on Mando’ade after Kassandra finished her freshman year at Atalanta.

The same year her mom won a Galactic Cup, the Titans won the Bak10. Unlike her mom, Kassandra hasn’t won a GCAA playoff game. She’s got one season to change that.

    IC: Kassandra Kirt
    Atalanta University, Atalanta, Bakura

Kassandra Kirt ate terribly when she was coding.

Junk food was probably a kind term for what she ingested when she was grooving on a programming project. Her limmie teammates would be aghast if she knew what she was shoving into her mouth between keystrokes. She didn’t even think she wanted to know sometimes. But that was coder culture for you. When you really had to get a project done, you pounded sugar and other processed foods, damn the consequences.

Well, not exactly damn the consequences. Kass always paid for it in the workout room for a few days after. It was a small price to pay to nail her coursework. Besides, it wasn’t even limmie season right now. She’d bounce back.

Her degree was more important than her limmie career. She was just one bad shoulder injury away from having that go away. Her mom had been lucky that hers had held up as long as it had. Kass wasn’t going to put all her faith in something that had so many potential failure points. Her computer science courses had taught her it was better to rely on multiple redundancies.

The messaging app on her terminal pinged. Kass groaned. She’d forgotten to silence it before she began working. She hated interruptions. But she also knew that she’d be driven to distraction now that she knew it was there.
Kass rolled her eyes. Had some lightball star eaten a burrito? That was what passed as newsworthy on HSN these days. That’s what happened when you were constantly broadcasting: filler. She flipped open a new window to bring up the broadcast.

“—had this on your bingo card, then congratulations,” the anchor said, “you probably just won your local pool. The Bak10 embarrassingly got shutout of the GCAA playoffs last year and while you might say they’re not taking it lying down…well…let’s just say we’re really interested in what Kerry Trieste thinks about this move from one of her premiere programs.

“Atalanta University, who’s just one season removed from their first Bak10 title in 30 seasons, has hired Den Bolo, head coach of Brentaal State’s smashball team, as their new head coach.”

“WHAT?” Kass shouted at her screen.

“At least Atalanta went after a winner. Bolo just led Brentaal State to the Division II smashball title. What you’re more likely to know him for was this moment in the locker room that was everywhere on the HoloNet a while back.”

Kass watched, her mouth physically hanging open. This was not happening.

“Say what you will about the Bak10 these days, but they definitely keep things interesting over there. Naturally, we wish Den and the Titans the best of luck in 303.”

As HSN moved on to other news, Kassandra tried to make sense of what she’d just seen. A smashball coach? They hired a smashball coach? Did he even know how limmie was played or did he think the way you won was by endlessly smashing things? (Come to think of it, she wasn’t exactly sure what happened in smashball, so maybe this lightsaber cut both ways.)

“No no no no no no no no no no,” Kass moaned as she put her head in her hands. She returned to the messaging app.
She definitely wasn’t getting her coding project done anytime soon.

TAG: @Bardan_Jusik because I’m going to ask him nicely to give me Atalanta scores all season long

“Hiiiii B Nation! So have I got the biggest news for you today: I just heard that the Carratos Pirates asked the Miners for permission to interview Leigh Cavanaugh for their head coach job. I know?! Right?!

“But wait, it gets better: apparently GM Shay Dionne said yes, which is blowing my mind. I know we didn’t make the playoffs last season, but Leigh is a legit good coach. But Shay knows how much the Pirates mean to Leigh and she didn’t want to stand in the way of her getting her dream job. Makes sense: that kind of thing would just fester and cause bad feelings later.

“Well when Leigh hears this she asks Shay if she can call Carratos from Shay’s office. Shay thinks it’s weird, but she’s all, ‘Sure, knock yourself out.’ So Leigh does and when the Pirates picks up Leigh’s like, ‘I hear you want to interview me.’ And before they can reply, Leigh says, ‘My answer is Korriban no,’ and she just hangs up! Apparently she’s really mad about them firing Logan Manx-Sandin, who’s a good friend of hers, and she’s not going to legitimize that nonsense.

“So, tl;dr, Leigh Cavanaugh is a total baller. Like we already knew she was. Cat Chat you later!”

"LIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE! From downtown Keldabe, on a sunny and warm playoff afternooooon.

    "What a weekend!"

"What a weekend indeed as we bring you this special championship edition of the show..."

    "So many offworlders!"

    "Mando'ade call them aruetiise."

"...as over the next weekend here Mandalore will host three championship matches of the beautiful game across three levels of play."

"Too bad the little league limme series isn't here too!"

"I hate watching that, holos zooming in on little kids crying..."

    "Yeah it can be rough."

"Still, we get to host an amazing Beskar Bowl presented by MandalMotors which will see two unheralded double digit seeds squaring off against one another."

"If you would have asked me at the beginning of the season if either University of Denon Eastlake or Concord War College would be here I would have said no way, and yet here they both are, and each with a great chance at winning the whole thing."

"It's been broken down all week, but that one comes down to a great defense led by the Dawn Treader's draft bound goalkeeper against a pretty good offense led by the Elementals..."

"Is that seriously their nickname? I had never heard that before."

    "...star forward Mirana Soulstone."

"It's one of those classic matchups, though not one we could have predicted."

    "No one did."

"Judging just by the number of Concordians around though I am going to pick them to win it all..."

"Really? You're going to let them intimidate you like..."

"Those people make normal Mandos look...normal."

    "That's a stretch."

"Then of course we also have the Skimmer Ade League Championship..."

"Not to be confused with the Skimmer Ade Bowl."

    "They really are everywhere."

"...which will feature the number two seeded Druckenwell Marksmen against the top seeded Tatooine Sandskimmers following the Markmen's 20 to 11 win over the Bandits."

"That will be a tough game for the Marksmen, Tatooine lost only two games all season, but let's face it, it's the match up the Skimmer Ade league has been building towards all season."

"Sure enough, those were the only two teams in the league with winning records on the season, though the Bandits at least broke even."

"Yeah Sandskimmers and Marksmen were clearly the class of the Skimmer Ade League this year, and now they'll get to prove who is the best of the developmental leagues here at Meshla Vhetin before the big night."

"And oh what a big night it will be, Mercs against the Starkillers, a re match of last season's Galactic Cup Finals, a game featuring the last two champions..."

'That's right, this will be Ralltiir's third straight appearance in the Finals.."

"Given that and their Skimmer Ade affiliate's appearance in that league's finals and things are looking pretty good for that franchise right now."

"They are, they are, and no doubt they will give Gark S'rily Award winner Alana Kirt..."

"Is there any award she hasn't won?"

    "Mother of the year?"

"Wait until next season for that."

"...fits as she tries to come up with a game plan that can get the Mercs past a team with as much post season experience as the Starkillers have on that roster."

"Yeah feels like even though the Mercs are the top seed, and hosting the game, that they are the understriil here..."

"Well, not so fast my friend. There are plenty of ways either team can win this one..."

"And we'll get to those, for both teams, right after this break."

TAG: @Runjedirun Good luck, in less of case a loss will bring you back to the game. Because then you should totally lose. :p

"...and if the other games are like this then will this ever be an amazing weekend for sports fans."

    "Will it ever be!"

"The game featured two unlikely teams, the number 11 seeded University of Denon, Eastlake Eternals from the BiG 20 and the number 13 seeded Dawn Treaders from Concord War College..."

"Didn't hear the normal chants of S E C from the KMI fans in attendance at the game.."

"Yeah SEC fans usually stick together, but not in the case of CWC and KMI, those fans...do not get along."

"Still the venue served as a base for a near home town crowd for the Dawn Treaders..."

"Concord Dawn is in the sector, so it was a short trip for them."

"...and their players took full advantage bursting out to an early lead that served to shut up the warriors fans that had already booked tickets to the game."

"Still shocked there weren't more fights in the stands."

"UD Eastlake rode out the early storm though and began clawing back as the second half started..."

"Down 18 to eight at the break I thought they were done then..."

"And they were up until Eternal forward Miranda Soulstone put her life on the line and sold out to put her team ahead 20 to 19 on a long shot that had next to no chance of hitting..."

"That one was one in a million."

"...but managed to get past Dawn Treader goalkeeper Runi Meshurok."

"She looked devastated after allowing that goal."

"The game wasn't over yet though as Concord War College took over and marched down the field, putting in their own goal for a 22 to 20 win as the clock expired."

    "That was one in 14,000,605..."

    "I get that reference."

"...much to the delight of the Dawn Treader faithful who made the short trip."

    "What a game!"
