A boat floated by cucumbers. Delicious and seaworthy.

This thread exists for that purpose, so no apologies are needed.

You shouldn't snack on croutons. It's not really ideal. But let me ask you - you're down to the last vestiges of a bowl of delicious soupe a l'oignon. The croutons are done, it's just the last remnants. You will need to tip the bowl to fill your spoon.

Which direction do you tip it?

What if they bring you this and tell you it's what the Old Ones called a sandwich? Will you argue with them?

Now I'm picturing ender with a Buffalo Bill set up to teach cuisine etiquette. "It tips the spoon away from him, or it gets the hose again."

Before tucking his crouton between his legs and admiring the results in the mirror.

I'm more comfortable picturing him as a basement dwelling psychopath.

At least he has an excuse then.

i eat the croutons first. :p

however, for the purpose of discussion, i would tip the bowl towards myself. as i do when dining gathering the last bites of my sumptuous bowl of l'cinnemon d'toas crunche.

Can the next thread be "Ender teaches Americans how to pronounce hors d'oeuvre"?

    Thanks, Tunick.

When you say "you're picturing it", you mean you're looking at the pictures I sent you of me doing that right?

    GANS VORT.

    Tip the bowl away! Away!

I tried. :( Snack on croutons, I guess.

The only definition of “sandwich” the noun that is not at least in some part arbitrary is any product of an act of “sandwiching,” the verb.

To sandwich something is to put it between something else. When you sandwich something, you have made a sandwich. Anything with more than one component, where one or more components are in some way enclosed, is a sandwich. Pop tarts are sandwiches, ravioli are sandwiches, even soup is in some way a sandwich. Any television show or radio broadcast which follows something and is then followed itself by something else is a sandwich. The history of radio and television is then by definition one extremely long club sandwich. If you have children, then you are the filling in a sandwich comprised of yourself, your parents, and your offspring. All of human history is a sandwich.

Sandwich is all, and all is a sandwich.

No, you can't just make things up and think that proletarian language and forced confidence will carry it over the line.

This is the truest thing said in this thread so far.
It's an experience. It's a lifestyle. It's something people move to France for. And weirdly, you don't find it anywhere else. If they open French-branded boulangeries abroad, it's not the same. It's just somehow lacking. While as soon as you're in France - even at a takeaway in a big train station in Paris - you get the real thing. It's magic.
