"My name is @starfish and I am a person!"

I also love the design, and it is consistent with every other Night trooper. They all filled the cracks and breaks on their helmets and armor with gold. The frontal part of his helmet probably got destroyed in its entirety, so he had to make a new golden one, and "fill in the crack" as well. It might be that this is one of the reasons he is the second in-command as well. Maybe Enoch took a blast on the face to save Thrawn or something similar.

Yeah, by featureless, I mean SW faces tend to be abstractions. They are representations of features, as you say, but don't detail literal faces.

I think I've seen more complaints online than I have here, but I have seen a few here. Overall, my impression is that most people like the mask. I was talking about what I believe is a minority of dislike. Nevertheless, I was surprised at even the small amount of dislike because the design seems pretty great to me.

And I'll return to my main point from before: the cool thing about the mask is in fact how it transgresses what we normally see in SW. I think that effect is intentional. The entire Night Trooper army is designed to create discomfort, and Captain Enoch creates the most. The correct word for his mask is grotesque -- it's a mash up of various masks, which creates the bizarre, hybrid effect, like some strange being has transgressed stormtrooper armor.

Really love the helmet design. My first association was actually "Titus of Gaul" from Gladiator:

just to add, I think it's a bad design, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, the guy is a space fascist, so of course he's going to wear a silly outfit

all the better, for when Shin Hati or someone punches him in the face

I'm not a fan of the fact that his name and mask are too tied to Earth. I'd expect to see a mask like that in an art museum. It isn't something that belongs in a galaxy even farther away. It looks like an Akkadian mask. I want to be transported to a galaxy far, far away when I watch Star Wars. I don't want to be grounded on Earth, and I certainly don't want to think "where have I seen something exactly like this before?". Star Wars should be unique.

Star Wars has always had costume pieces and names taken straight from real history so it doesn’t bother me

    Um...lol

Star Wars designs have always been deeply rooted in Earth history. The Falcon is based on WW2 bombers. Vader is based on Samaurai armor. Stormtroopers on nazis. Lightsabers on katana blades, etc.

When did this 'too tied to Earth' stuff start? A new hope.

Friar Kenobi would like a word.

Star Wars costumes have always been a pastiche of various historical and sci-fi styles. And Enoch is perhaps the most pastiche of them all. It's not like he's a guy in a toga with that mask. He's wearing stormtrooper armor, he's got a tunic on underneath (at least covering his legs), and he has a classical-looking mask. It's pure Star Wars.

What *is* different to his design is it's more overtly "archaic" and fantasy-seeming - and with the implication that Enoch has an air of mystical funkiness to him.

I still think that's his actual face now.

I don’t like the design at all. And the wide shot where he’s walking alongside Thrawn really highlights how short he is compared to both Thrawn and the other stormtroopers. Which makes him stand out even more. I’m accustomed to this tradition of each film and series having to introduce a new kind of trooper, but I feel like he’s probably the goofiest looking one yet, IMO.

That, and neither Ezra or Thrawn "saw death" but got zapped into this alternate dimension place, whatever it's supposed to be.

Also nobody's going to mention the police in THX 1138? There's obviously more than one influence going on here, but I have to assume someone saw the resemblance. It's really an unsettling type of mask, IMO.

I’m so over people saying that every single individual element in Star Wars should “look” like Star Wars. It’s more about the attitude towards the story being told and not the set design and aesthetic.

Not here to start a sequel trilogy debate, I still like those movies, but in my view things like the sequels, season 3 of the Mandalorian, and some other projects “look” like Star Wars, but are told in a nudge nudge/wink wink way that feels more like an SNL parody. Meanwhile, Andor feels more like an organic Star Wars story despite having wildly different aesthetic/feel and musical score.

I saw early reviewers complaining about Igyah Kah (the Sabine punk song) feeling out of place, and I don’t agree. I love that track.

Enoch's actor is 6 foot. Thrawn's is 6.4, that's the only reason he looks short.

He’s also shorter than the stormtroopers behind him, or at the very least the perspective makes it look as much. To me it just makes for a weird visual in that brief wide shot, compounded by the fact that his armor design makes him the silliest looking person in the room IMO.

I’m not sure what the inspiration was for the mask. My immediate thoughts went to the gladiator brought out of retirement in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. But perhaps it’s supposed to look like a sarcophagus. I’m not sure, but IMO it doesn’t gel at all with the stormtrooper armor.

It’s like putting a tricorn on a medieval knight in chainmail and trying to make it look cool.
