Republica, Terrace of the Chancellors Tower

Senator Sedos Tavon looked at Caaedas and then he smiled. "You were always the wiser of both of us." He whispered and leaned forward. "Can you arrange such an agreement with Graul? Having the Republicans on our side could actually give us a distinctive advantage.

Deon of Kuat and his political protege Aryan Graul were Republicans, who believed that the galaxy should be ruled by one central body. An idea attractive to many and despised by the Free Worlds. The Republicans believed in diplomacy and economics, while the Centrists believed in military power, but ultimately they both supported a strong state. Other than the Populist Chancellor and his Liberal supporters who shared the believe the Government should not intervene in planetary sovereignty. It was really the rivalry between Corellia and Kuat that had kept a coalition of Republicans and Centrists from appointing a Chancellor. Sedos saw the chance to break up this stand off now. "You can speak for me, but officially I need to stay out of this negotiations."

Nian sighed at the mention of Elyseum. "Our investigation has only begun, but we receive a lot of pressure to announce it was a conflict between the Jedi and a rival faction." She looked at Jerec. "Which is pretty hard to argue as the Jedi have no rivals. They are the foremost force-users in the galaxy. So I have my people look for a scapegoat, while some of my best try to gain intel from the Jedi Order who this was."

A young officer Jerec could not identify and who was wearing the black uniform of TRI now greeted the young Admiral who looked terribly loss on this unique battlefield of galactic politics. The moment passed without the man doing anything.

Another dark skinned man was staying away from the party and watched the blue skinned royals from the Free Worlds. He was probably a bodyguard or someone very good at appearing to be one.

The doors opened and Jerec saw Deon of Kuat and his protege Aryan Graul enter the party. One of the way to few guards on the terrace followed them as they started greeting guests.

He was leaving his post. Either he had seen something suspicious or had orders to do so ... or this was rather unusual behavior for one of the disciplined Senate guards.

The giant walked next to him and whatever creature was hiding in the suit, it was clumsy and had to quite a burden for the creature to wear to exist in such hostile environment.

"They. Are. The Listeners. A. Cult. Who. Is. Awaiting. The. Arrival. Of. Their. Massiah." The giant explained. "Harmless. I. Assure."

He gave the name given a thought. "Toba. Das. I. Do. Not. Recall. Any. Man. By. That. Name." He lead Valerius to a large turbolift. No. On second inspection it was a manual mechanical lift. He pressed the button the a level. They were all named in a language Valerius had never seen. "I. Know. The. Hunters." He gestured. "But. You. Will. Not. Find. Them. Here." He said and the elevator arrived at an upper level. The stone Doors slided open and a market was revealed. It was small, with no buyers anywhere. Strange fruits and metal amulets offered everywhere by hooded buyers of which many were wearing breathing masks. Anomid. Another species that was surprising to pick such a challenging planet to live. They seemed to be the foremost population of the planet though.

The Giant did not step out of the elevator, but as soon as Valerius did he pressed another button and the doors closed. "They. Are. Desert. Dwellers." He just said and the door closed.

"Pal, you are sure you come to the right planet?" A voice asked and another human leaned against the yellow sandstone wall next to the lift. "With that fancy weapon at your belt and how you carry yourself I'd say ... Free Systems. The good part of it." He pushed himself from the wall. "I am Redmon. Don't ask what I am doing here. Got stranded and kinda fell in hate with the place." He gave Valerius a smile. "So either you hide or you look for someone hiding. Which is it?"
"Whatever it is don't trust the gatekeeper or you end sitting on the top floor and waiting for some coming messiah." The man smiled.

    Tanee Bolyn
Corsin, Jedi Academy, Training Council Room

Tanee heard the Cathar snort, and she sensed movement.

"Master Kran probably saw how you were the 'poor blind girl' with all these doubts and wanted you to be more than that." Tanee simply nodded. "We will never know. His reports were short and reflected the difficult relationship he had to his order." His relationship with the order? It was something Tanee did not think of. Then, Saleen asked her a question that totally surprised her.

"So are you coming?" The Jedi Knight asked. "You do realize Master Phash gave us an unsubtle hint to speak to Master Lamia, did you? He is not a fool, so doing something foolish like mentioning her was certainly not a coincidence."

Tanee all but lept towards the doorway that Saleen was walking towards the door and opened it, waiting for Tanee to come. "Are you good with that stick? Otherwise, we need to get you a lightsaber. We are hunting a Darksider now, after all."

Tanee couldn't help herself. She allowed herself a huge grin before she became serious once more. Tanee took her staff, and separated the staff into two parts, and stuffing them behind her into a pack. She replied, "I am good with my staff, but I would rather have a lightsaber Knight Saleen. As you said, we are hunting a Darksider now." Tanee gave that statement some thought, thinking of the attack earlier. "A lot of Darksiders." she added before she bounded to follow and keep up with the Cathar.

If the Force was giving her another chance to follow her path, then Tanee was going to take it. As she followed, she allowed herself to stretch out within the Force, as she walked.

    Janis Callisto
    Hospital on Corsin

He cried. There was nothing else he could do but cry. His mother was gone. The feeling of loneliness was almost suffocating. It filled his whole world.

He remained with his dead mother for a long moment and then finally got up and walked towards the door. He felt dizzy, the whole world felt far away. As he stepped outside he expected his "Dad" to be there, having conveniently shown up just in the right point of time. Janis cleared his throat.

"I am sorry I was so angry. She is ... she is gone now." Janis said and looked at the man, fighting his tears to burst from his eyes again as he felt the impact of saying these words. "How ... how did you two meet?" Janis was surprised his curiosity got the best of him right now. It was just so surreal for him to show up right now.

    Jedi Academy on Corsin, Quarters

Soa felt these halls were too much of a celebration of a victory that the Jedi never had. The Dark Side was never defeated and never would be. Keeping it at bay was an eternal struggle and Soa often wished the temple should have reflected that a bit more.

Patiently she approached the Jedi Master who seemed to guess Saleen and her were not both send by the council. Soa ignored the little sting and came straight to the point.

"Jedi died and someone killed them. I feel there is a connection to the homeworld of one of the survivors. Akeem Bestat of the royal family of Bestat. He is an especially challenging and aggressive young man, who obviously did not needed to undergo screening before being allowed to train as a Jedi. Anyway if she hasn't his aunt will soon demand his return to Haruun Kal. I would like to be the Jedi who escorts him back to safety." She folded her arms and looked at Master Lamia. "Not an unreasonable idea to give him a proper escort, I believe."

    Akeem'nun'Bestat
    -Quarters, Jedi Academy, Corsin

There would be times when the Force would feel distant, like a bird landing on a faraway tree, his aunt had told him. He would see the bird, know its there, but wouldn't be able to touch it or smell it. Then there would be times when Force would open up in front of you like a book. Now felt like one of those times. It was so clear and simple that Akeem did not need to do a deep dive into his feelings and thoughts. The enemy that had attacked Elyseum was coming here, to Corsin. They knew of the Jedi Academy and the Third Republic military presence and yet they still were bold enough to bring their forces to attack.

    But was it his battle?

Saylu: the Protector of the Realm, had ordered him back to Haruun Kal and he would go. That was what soldiers did; they followed orders. Akeem, however, knew there was gray area. He would go back to Haruun Kal, but first he knew he would have to fight again. The enemy would not let him, or anyone for that matter, off the planet easily. They were coming for an extermination, just like Elyseum. But unlike Elyseum, he knew they were coming this time.

The sentiment echoed in the Force:

    The boy is mine...

He could feel the heavy presence that sent that message out. But he didn't care. Whatever boy, whatever goal, or ambition his enemy had only meant as much to him as its usefulness in destroying them. Akeem walked to the door to leave the quarters. His mood immediately lifted and a smirk crept onto his face. He would follow his aunt's instruction, but he cherished and embraced the opportunity to kill more of the soldiers he had killed on Elyseum, and to test his blade against high level adversaries. He knew that this feeling of bloodlust could overwhelm him if he was not careful, but he would use its strength if he needed to to survive. The same as he had done before.

Though he also remembered the helplessness he felt on Elyseum...and again the pain of losing Elysa...Why was he so quick to face battle? Why was he so quick to embrace the loss of life?...

He pressed the button to open the doors and saw the two guards waiting for him there. Jedi. He would need to appeal to them and if that failed...well hopefully it would not fail.

"There is an attack coming. To Corsin." He said confidently and certainly. "The same forces that attacked Elyseum are on their way here now. You need to make the masters aware or the same thing that happened on Elyseum will happen here. Saylu'nun'Bestat, Realm Protector of Haruun Kal, has demanded that I be released and return home."

He rested his hand on his belt and his other hand on the hilt of his sword. "And before you try to stop me, there are others that need your help more than I do. All of Corsin is in danger."

    Karina Bestat
    -Garnison, Corsin

Karina nodded at the Colonel before turning to the older human. "You should probably follow me."

Karina sprinted across the yard, back to her gear and began to suit up. Her blaster proof top and advanced helmet slid to rest on her shoulders. She slung her assault rifle over her shoulder, and tucked her two blasters in their holsters on her leg. An evacuation would require the spaceport, but with it being such a large target, this seemed like more of a job for the infantry units and not the SpecOps unit. However, the invading force had not arrived yet, so there was nothing for the command team to point her and her squad towards to do damage to yet.

Once her squad saw her getting ready, they followed suit, and by the time she was done, they were likewise also finishing. She radioed Teica:

"Teica, this is Khan. Tell your aunt I'm being sent to the city to secure the spaceport for the evacuation. My squad and I will be taking my ship."

She turned to Kya. "You can call me Khan. Are you coming?"

It didn't look like Valerius was going to get anything out of the hulking creature next to him.

So he knew the Hunters but not Toba Das. Considering the fact that not a lot of people visited here perhaps that name would have set off something in the creatures mind. Maybe he genuinely didn't know, was too frightened to tell him or was just being obstinate Valerius could not tell.

Plus a religious cult hanging around and watching him could complicate things. The creature had mentioned they were harmless but Valerius disliked being spied on. Especially if they were linked to this Hunters Guild or maybe just to nab him to join their cult.

They entered a lift and arrived at a market which looked surprisingly empty. Nobody buying nor looking at their wares, the market stallholders didn't seem too bothered though. Valerius had been to several markets and bazaars in his time and they were usually busy bustling places. This was suspicious…

As he stepped out of the lift the creature mentioned they were desert dwellers before moving off. Was he about to go on an excursion into the desert. Valerius wasn't exactly dressed for a sojourn into the desert, he would have to return to Electrostar to change. But this Hunters Guild was the only lead so far in locating Tara.

Oh well might as well get sandy and dusty...

Valerius turned sharply as another voice spoke up, a man in black casually leaning against the wall.

Valerius smirked at that. His attire practically screamed Free Systems wealth but the other man simply wasn't concerned which was the good news. The blaster pistol on Valerius's hip was also another giveaway, luckily the baton in his jacket hadn't yet been noticed. But a man hanging around the market who hated the place immediately got Valerius's suspicions up, even if he was stranded.

"Whatever it is don't trust the gatekeeper or you end sitting on the top floor and waiting for some coming messiah." The man smiled.

Valerius kept an easy smile on his face but kept his eyes focused on Redmon. "It seems that I like you do not fit in around here. This place is very quiet for a market…" he let that hang in the air for a few moments "And I do not fancy becoming a member of a cult today".

He pulled out his datapad again and pulled up the picture of Tara again " Call me a concerned citizen" he showed Redmon the picture of Tara " I'm looking for this woman. She has disappeared from home and since there aren't a lot of people hanging around here no doubt she would stick out. No doubt as she is from the Free Systems too".

He put the datapad away "She had a contact here, Toba Das. I don't know if he is part of this Hunters Guild i've heard about. He was the last person to see this woman and I would very much like to meet with him. The Gatekeeper mentioned something about desert dwellers, could these Hunters Guild members be hiding there?".

Hopefully this man would be better than the Gatekeeper.

Otherwise Valerius's mission would be a lot harder...

Saleen chuckled a little and waited until the girl had passed. "I get you one before we leave." The Togorian Jedi Knight walked very silently and was in thoughts. "You said that Canos was I recreated in the boy? He is here on Corsin? Was there anything special about him?"

The took the turbo lift upstairs to the Master's level, a place Tanee had never been to. She heard the humming of the otherwise empty hall and only Master Lamia and Soa where there.

"The Council holds you in high regard, Jedi Sten, so yes I allow you to escort the boy to his aunt. She has been pretty clear she expects his transfer immediately." Master Lamia turned to Saleen and Tanee as they approached them.

Saleen greeted Soa with a nod and a feline smile. They were the two most famous investigators among the Jedi. Friendly rivals of sorts and yet both had always held high respect for each other's work.

"Master Lamia, I apologize to disturb you, but we come to you in a matter of great urgency." Saleen greeted the Master. She knew she looked younger than she was, being a Merillian, who were a very long lived species.

"We were just done here, but you should know it is forbidden for an Apprentice to enter this part of the academy." Master Lamia Cooley replied into Tanee's direction.

"This is Tanee. She survived Elyseum and reported of disturbing things she encounters there including a Master of the Dark Side called Canos." Saleen stopped. "A name that tells you something, I assume?"

Master Lamia turned her full attention to the Togorian now. "Is that true, girl? Are you sure he called himself Canos?"

"I will not try to stop you, I will stop you Apprentice." The voice said with a calm voice. "There was no alarm and any demand your aunt might make will certainly be handled properly by the Masters. Now I ask you to return to your quarters and remain there. If you feel you need to contact anyone, I encourage you to use the comm-link." The guard lay his helmet aside. He obviously was not willing to discuss this. Down the floor Akeem saw a Jedi Knight approach them. His aunt had told him about the man. Taruun'nun'Cesto was the only Korunnai Jedi within the Jedi Order.

"The force lead me here. Your mother and me served aboard the Horis a long time ago. Well, sixteen years ago. She was a cook and I was there on a mission. I have thought many times about your mother and when I saw the list of survivors from Corsin, I knew it was her and ... understood who you are." Zoren smiled at Janis, but it was more a smile of sympathy. "You do not need to hide your feelings. It is natural to feel sadness." He said and put his hand on Janis shoulder. "Maybe we shall take a walk. Tell me about you. I barely know you." He shrugged. "If you want to be alone that is fine, too."

Redmon gave the hologram a look and smiled. "Oh she was hard to miss. Such a ... majestic beauty rarely comes to this place. She looked for Toba, too. He is with the Hunters. A tribe of mercenaries out there in the desert. They are calling themselves a guilt now, hm? A bunch of crazy if you ask me." He looked up. "I offered he my services, too. She took her fancy Nubian Yacht and her bodyguard and took of by herself. That was four days ago." Redmon smirked. "I can bring you to the guilt, for two thousand credits." He said directly. Probably around here this was a lot of credits. In the Free Systems there were spaceports asking for higher fees.

Vatek had a surviving crewmember? That was a lead, she had to admit. If the route existed, the Golden Path! And if it was really stored in her flagship. If that flagship still existed. If the crew-member knew where to find it.

    A lot of "if's".

But something tingled in her neck. Call it instinct, gut-feeling or the force.

Something told her to take the chance.

"The route could make us very rich, so I am ready to give it a shot. Are you on board Jo?" She knew this was a long bet, so she wanted to make sure he was in and not force it on him.

Vatek had hopefully kept this a secret, because for a secret like this ... the Hutts or other crimelords would kill!

Tanee heard Saleen chuckled a little, as Tanee moved quickly to catch up. As she passed the knight, Saleen replied, "I get you one before we leave." Before we leave? Now Tanee was very curious, and she walked along with the Jedi Knight whom she noticed was very quiet. With so much going on, there was a lot to think about. Saleen then asked her. "You said that Canos was interested in the boy? He is here on Corsin? Was there anything special about him?"

Tanee nodded. "Yes to both question Knight Saleen. The boy is here. I saw him last at the hospital as his mother was dying. Tanee felt a pang of sorrow for the Janis. That had to be a horrible feeling. Tanee spoke up once more. "I felt him in the Force Knight Saleen. He was.." Tanee paused for a moment. "He was like a hot star in the Force. We were being attacked by some ships, and he took over the ship's guns.." Tanee paused, remembering the moment. "He lit up in the Force. Almost like something enveloped him. Surrounded him." Tanee paused again. "But it was also like he didn't know it either." Tanee gave a sad smile. "His name is Janis. I don't know his last name."

They took the turbo lift upstairs to the Master's level, a place Tanee had never been to. She heard the humming of the otherwise empty hall. Even though she could not see the place, she could feel it. The Force felt so ... she had no words for it. She was so enthralled with the area, that she almost forgot why she was here. Tanee then noticed voices. She stayed close to Saleen, as they grew closer to the voices. Tanee could feel the presence of two other people now.

Saleen greeted Soa. "Master Lamia, I apologize to disturb you, but we come to you in a matter of great urgency." Saleen told the Master. "We were just done here, but you should know it is forbidden for an Apprentice to enter this part of the academy." Master Lamia Cooley replied into Tanee's direction. Tanee knew of this, never having to have come here herself. But the Force here felt comforting. Tanee listened as Saleen spoke.

"This is Tanee. She survived Elyseum and reported of disturbing things she encounters there including a Master of the Dark Side called Canos." Saleen stopped. "A name that tells you something, I assume?"

Master Lamia turned her full attention to the pair now. Tanee could tell the direction of her voice change. "Is that true, girl? Are you sure he called himself Canos?"

Tanee nodded her head towards the Master. "Yes Master, I am quite sure. He even spoke to me a few times, before ... before the attack happened." Tanee stood straight and tall as she faced Master Lamia. Tanee didnt know anything about the woman. But at the moment, that didn't matter. Tanee just wanted them to know that an attack was coming. And it would be like nothing that they had seen in ages.

    So Tara was not alone…

It seemed she had also brought her bodyguard along for the ride, it seemed she felt like having a bit of muscle around would help her out. Especially if she was travelling outside the Free Systems and talking with mercenaries. But she did like to make an impression with her beauty, she certainly had with Valerius back in the day.

And if his Baudo class yacht was considered a wealthy person's ship then a Nubian yacht practically screamed royal. Only the wealthiest of the wealthy could afford those and most of them were handed out to royal families. Sheathed in chrome Tara's yacht would make an impression for sure and also make her more visible. Valerius had to hope that she hadn't changed ships whilst here, her father would not be pleased if she had dumped one of his yachts.

Tara had a four day head start on him, which could mean she may now be far away from Trian. Hopefully this Toba could start him on the trail but knowing mercenaries could mean he would have to pay up or offer something. Perhaps he could try and negotiate or act as a potential client to get at least some information. But he was not going to leave here empty handed.

Redmon meanehile was offering his services for two thousand credits, it would'nt put too much of a dent in Valerius's pocket but it still seemed a little steep.

"One thousand five hundred, payment on delivery" he said simply "Enough to get yourself off this planet if needs be or to set yourself up nicely here. I want to make sure you deliver."

If Redmon tried anything such as stealing his ship Valerius under his powers as private investigator could call upon any authority to come and arrest him.

"You sound like you know these Hunters, so if you can provide me with any information you have it could be useful, might even get an extra hundred credits for it" he nodded his head towards where he had come from "My ship is back at the spaceport, unless you fancy a trek in the desert".

"I get a drink." He just mumbled and made his way to the guard on an interception course. He made his hold-out ready and smiled to a waitress before getting serious again and trying to get into the back of the guard. Why would he follow a single Senator in a security zone? Also under this armor was probably the best hiding sport for anybody who did not belong here he could imagine. Wondering if his hold-out was even powerful enough to effectively get through the armor he looked around for alternatives. Finally he decided he needed some backup.

"Red Hand to security, protocol orange." He set the alarms higher and turned to the guard again, pushing his way through the crowd of important people to catch up now.

As the conversation had gone on around him - hyperspace routes, Pirate Queen, Empire - the Clawdite’s attention wavered to the red reflection that colored his glass. It had happened twice.

Jeorge looked up, noticing the tell-tale red-plated uniform of a Guavian Death Gang Member taking up a tactical position by the exit. He wasn’t alone. There was another.

What had brought them here? Who was their target?

“Are you on board Jo” Sera asked, cutting into his thoughts.

Jeorge looked at them both and nodded absently.

    “Yes, yes,” he said.

Whatever they’d discussed, he was in with Sera, that much was true. She was the Captain.

“Look, uh,” he said looking around and standing. “Let’s get going.”

I have a bad feeling about this, he thought - it had it nothing to do with mysterious hyperspace routes and long-dead Queens. It had everything to do with not wanting to be dead this very second.

Caardas scrunched his face up and nodded assuringly.

“No worries, my friend,” he said.

Centrists had long held that a strong military would bring peace and order, whereas the Republicans pushed for a strong central government. Together they wanted the best of what the Empire had tried to achieve in the past, where the Republic itself had failed. The Free Systems, and the way it had affected intergalactic economies and regulation, were only the tip of the iceberg.

A coalition, even as their views differed, on the whole, would be beneficial to both parties - as well as their constituents.

“You can speak for me, but officially I need to stay out of this negotiations,” Tavon continued.

“It will be done, my friend,” he said. “It will not take much effort, I think. Grief can be powerful, and should the attack prove to be something - all the more so do we need this change.”

Soa nodded in appreciation for the trust she had been given. She was about to thank Master Lamia and leave, when Saleen appeared with a blind girl in tow. Was this Tanee? The other survivor had been her next subject to question.

Obviously the Council had asked Saleen to look into Elyseum. The Togorian was not personally affected. Soa had to smile as she realized her "rival" seemed one step ahead of her.

    Canos.

She had never heard the name. Was he the enemy? Was that the murderer of Master Kran?

She decided to hang around for a moment to hear how this played out. Saleen had probably unearthed a key information from the girl. How did Akeem fit into this? There was something going on right in front of the Jedi's noses and they had taken too long to see it. The Jedi Order was in danger, she could feel it.

Master Lamia looked at Tanee and then at Saleen. "He is dead. He died in a prison break that escalated and destroyed the Prism." Lamia said and she was unsure, her voice betrayed that.

"The Prism?" Saleen said. Tanee would never have heard of it, but Soa and Saleen were familiar with the old legend of a Jedi Prison, that was also later used by the Empire and if rumors had been true had been used by the newly re-founded Jedi Order and the Third Republic to house the remains of the Sith Eternal. "What was his crime?" Saleen asked.

"I do not know. I was a Jedi Knight back then. But sixteen years ago he seemed to have a confrontation with the Jedi Council and had fled from the Jedi Order. Rumors said he was doing research forbidden by the Jedi Council. He was imprisoned there for five years when the break out happened and the Jedi Master in charge saw himself forced to activate the self-destruction protocol. There were no survivors. All six imprisoned subjects were killed. Among them Canos Zoren." Lamia said and then looked at Tanee. "Or so we thought until today."

Redmon smirked. "I know them, but I will lead you to someone who knows a lot more about them and actually will find them. Then I will convince him to get you to them for free. Which is necessary as you will not impress him with credits." He shrugged. "That is the extra five. So two thousand it is." He walked back with Valerius to the elevator.

"The hunters are here for a reason. They value privacy. Without a warm introduction they will probably kill you and leave you to rot in the desert."

They were not going up to the ship, but down to the ground level. "Oh, and I have the ride we need." He added.

The doors opened to the ground level and except two of the cultists standing far away there was nothing to be seen.

Well, there were two Incom T-1 gliders.

Sid was about to leave when the call came and the Admiral countered their orders. What a fool he was.

The hologram he called up showed signatures. Hyperdrive signatures. Hundreds of them. A fleet, a whole Armada at Null. Null was basically around the corner. These ships were on their way and they were too many.

"Sir, just take the safe route, deploy fighters and change formation to defensive. Please." Sid said and walked over to the Admiral. "What if I am wrong? Even if it is a one percent chance, can you dare to take that risk? That force is massive." The Corsin Defense was based on the idea the fleet was so massive nobody could challenge it. If that paradigm was no longer true, he was not sure if the fleet was able to withstand a surprise attack.

Karina sprinted across the yard, and Matthias kept pace, focusing and not even being remotely bothered by the armour as he kept up. His age was irrelevant by this point, because he had training, and the Force. He still had his lightsaber - a tremendous indictment of trust - but when he caught up with her he picked at the weapon stock for grenades, and mentally added them to his sphere of protection. It was highly unlikely that a Force user would try to detonate the grenades on his waist, but it was a trick he'd used in his youth. There were others here, and for simplicity sake, he magnetically attached a blaster to his leg armour plate. He also, for completeness sake, checked the charge on his lightsaber. Because why not.

    Preparedness was key to victory.

"Teica, this is Khan. Tell your aunt I'm being sent to the city to secure the spaceport for the evacuation. My squad and I will be taking my ship."

She turned to him. "You can call me Khan. Are you coming?"

Matthias rolled his shoulders to get ready. It was a ritual; he remained supple at his age, though probably not as mentally agile, but he found the action would get him into the mindset.

"I wouldn't miss this for the world."

For my boy, and, probably, the end of this world, too.

It seemed Redmon was good at bartering, even Valerius’s offer of one thousand six hundred credits was not enough for him. Mercenaries loved nothing more than money and they would do anything to get it. Valerius knew that he had dealt with them and even kept some contact from the other side of the law as it were…

But it all hinged on this mystery person and whether they could get them to the Hunters Guild. It all depended on Redmon’s negotiation skills, hopefully Valerius would let him just work his magic, but if needed Valerius would try to work him over. Hopefully again without using any of his weapons at all.

These Hunters were seeming to sound worse by the second though. Valerius had to wonder how malevolent they were if they decided that their introduction was not warm enough and then kill them both. Hiding in the desert though was perfect. You didn't get disturbed, were well hidden away and could conduct their business on their terms. No authority would poke their nose in there unless they wanted specifically to arrest them.

And I don’t fancy rotting in the desert today….

As they arrived at their destination, which was fto Valeirus’s surprise not heading back to the Electrostar but down to the ground level, where there were two glider-like bikes waiting for them. Also present but further away were two more brown robed cultists, they seemed to be everywhere this lot.

“Your payment still depends on delivery” Vectivus said simply and with a no no nonsense tone to his voice “And whether this contact of yours can get us into the krayt dragons den. This woman I am looking for has a four day start and I would like to head off and find her. If these Hunter’s can provide that then so be it. But any fooling around by you or your contact here could be rather a lot of trouble heading your way, and no credits for you. Which means you could be rather stuck….” he left it at that.

He climbed aboard the glider and gestured for Redmon to lead the way “Most mercenaries are impressed by credits. This must be one tough cookie not to want any money at all and is willing to get us in for free. But if he knows where these Hunter’s dwell then it may be worth those extra credits. Maybe we might be still alive for you to enjoy your credits. Especially if we hopefully can get ourselves at least a polite introduction.”

He positioned himself “Time is of the essence here, shall we get cracking?”.

    Janis Callisto and Zoren
In front of the hospital on Corsin

„No, I think being alone is something I will have a lot off from now on. A walk sounds fantastic.“ Janis smiled. He was surprised by his mothers history. He had not known she had served in the military in any capacity. She had never mentioned it.

„I thought attachments are not allowed for Jedi? They cannot love?“ Janis asked Zoren on the way out. Zoren smiled and nodded.

„Well, it is probably the rule most Jedi have ever broken. There were whole dynasties of Jedi. The Sunriders, the Shans, the Skywalkers. All seemed not be miracle conceptions. Anakin Skywalker probably was.“ He laughed. It was a sad laugh. „I fell in love with her and we were on the same ship for one long campaign. We assumed none of us would be alive soon, so the rules of the Jedi Order were something that seemed only to apply loosely. We gave ourselves strength. When we won our little war, it was time for me to decide. I was offering her to leave the Jedi Order, but she wanted to hear none of it. I was never again the Jedi I used to be afterwards. I felt these rules were hollow. They took something from me that was as precious as the force to me. Love. An emotion that I did not feel was negative in any way.“ Zoren shrugged. „I tried to find her, but she had left the Republic service like most of those who served in that war. We were strictly speaking not having a mandate. It was Jedi Knight Do Sal-Kran who convinced us to do the right thing, despite what the Admirals and Jedi Masters said. I think you met him. Didn‘t you?“

Janis nodded. „A very impressive short meeting on Elyseum. he explained to me I am too old for training as a Jedi.“ He looked at Zoren. „My mother hoped he would take me. If they knew it makes sense, actually. Also she did not mention that to me.“

„She had her secrets. She kept you a secret from me. She kept me a secret from you. You must not hold it against her.“ Janis looked at Zoren and nodded.

„I won‘t. She was the best mother I could wish for. I . . . did terrible things on Elyseum. I killed enemies.“ He said and and fought tears again. „I feel tainted.“

Zoren shook his head. „Fighting makes you feel that way. Killing does. The problem is once you get used to it and I assure you everybody does.“ The man looked at him. „The galaxy is a darker place than it appears, Janis. Violence is nothing to be ashamed of. You defended yourself. That gunship would have destroyed you and your mother and everyone would have died, had you not killed the enemy.“ Zoren looked at Janis.

Janis thought about the words for a moment and then he turned to Zoren.

„I did not mention a gunship, did I?“ He said. They had made half a round around the hospital and a group of playing Ithorians kids ran past them. Janis stopped.

„I must have read it in the report.“ Zoren smiled. He looked at Janis and then his eyes became slids. Janis felt something in the force. He had not perceived it since Eylseum, now he felt something that felt like ... a warning. An alarm.

„Whose report? I did not write any.“ Janis said.

    „Tanee‘s.“ He said.

„She just got taken away. She cannot have filed a report yet.“ Janis stepped back. Something was not right. „Are you a Jedi Knight, father?“

Zoren looked at him. „Not anymore.“ He replied. „You are right, I read no report at all.“

Janis stared at him. „Then how do you know all this?“ He looked around. No guards or patrols of police forces anywhere around. They were pretty much alone.

„You tell me Janis. Show me what my boy is made off.“ Zoren said and his smile was now anything but benevolent. It was probing, provoking. A curled lip, that made him look almost cruel. He took his hood and brought it over his head. It made him look much less civil and friendly.

„You were there.“ Janis replied. Zoren nodded only. „But you did not help the apprentices. You were with the others. You attacked the Jedi Enclave!“ Janis stumbled back.

„I see you are sharp, I like that. Go on.“ Zoren came closer again.

„You are the dark man who talked to Tanee. The one who was interested in me. I did not believe her! Of course you were interested in me! After all I am your son.“ Janis felt panic rise inside of himself. „You are Canos!“

„Canos Zoren is my name, yes. Go on.“ He confirmed his fears and Janis felt his head hurl.

„You are responsible for Kira‘s death. You killed the Master!“ Janis yelled out.

„I ordered their death, I did not kill them. But yes, I am responsible for their death and I will be responsible for millions of deaths here, Janis. Elyseum was the warm up. I believed to find something there, that was long gone. Kran had gone weak and old. Yet, I found it nevertheless. In you. This planet will be next, Janis. It will burn. It will die. It is my will it does.“ He smiled under the hood.

„Why? Why are you doing this?“ Janis asked, trying to keep his distance between him and his father. He somehow knew he was indeed his father. It explained what Tanee had said and why he had ever made it out of Elyseum. But his father was a monster!

„The Jedi must die to make room for a new order, a new galaxy. They had their time and have failed. They blindly serve the force, but I serve another Master.“ Canos lay his head aside. „These things are complicated, I will teach you all of them. I will have no secrets from you, my boy. You will be my greatest apprentice, I can feel it.“

„Never!“ Janis spit out. He had been afraid to be forced to become a Jedi, bukt this was a million times worse. This was a future so dark he felt it resonate in the depth of his soul. He turned around to run.

A wave of his hand and Janis legs were pulled from under him. He landed painfully in the sand of Corsin. He grabbed the sand and threw it behind him at his father, but the man smirked only down at him.

„I promised your mother I would take care of you. I promised you, you would not have to become a Jedi. I plan to keep true to my word on both promises, my boy.“ Canos grinned.

„No! The Jedi will fight you! There are many Jedi on this planet!“ Janis shouted out. There had to be Masters here. They would stop him! They had to!

„Yes, many Jedi and they will all die. The Legion is on the way here and it will end the age of the Jedi. I am so proud you are here to see it. I am so proud you saw the beginning on Elyseum. My son, your future will be bright and full of power and understanding! You future will be an ascending. Do not take it away from you by holding on to idea that you did deny already. You did not wanted to become a Jedi. You were right. Their hollow teachings have lured those strong in the force away from it‘s true nature for far too long. Let me show you the true force. Let me show you the true face of the galaxy.“ Canos stepped over him and reached down, offering his hand.

Janis looked at Canos and he could not believe this was happening. He felt his fear, his suffocating agony. His mother was dead, the only living relative was a monstrosity and murderer. He felt alone. He felt alone like he never had before.

That was the moment he felt something else. The force. It ripped into his perception like it had on Elyseum. This time he did not wonder or marvel at it. He dived deep into this feeling and screamed. He screamed out mentally to the only Jedi he knew.

    Tanee, the blind girl.

HE IS HERE! CANOS IS HERE!

Canos smiled. „You have a strong will, like your mother. Like your father. I see it will take time to make you see the only truth.“ Canos withdrew his hand and raised it. Janis was ripped from the ground back to his feet. „Do not try to run, my son.“ Canos only said and Janis knew he would not stand a chance if he tried. Not now.

„Yes, father.“ He replied and trembled as Canos passed him and walked towards the spaceport. Obedient Jansi followed, looking around and waiting for a chance to escape.

His heartbeat began to pick up and Akeem cocked his head slightly to one side.

"I didn't know Jedi were in the kidnapping and confinement business."

The Realm Protector had summoned him to Haruun Kal.

He was sure there was an attack coming to Corsin.

He was not in a mood to bargain for his freedom.

"You should save your energy." His eyes peered down the hall and he saw a black male with a defiant look on his face. Familiar? Yes, Taruun...The only Korunnai Jedi the Order had. On one hand, there was a possible chemistry there between them. Maybe Akeem could get him to see reason. But honestly, Akeem looked at the man as a Jedi, not a Koruunai right now. His eyes focused back on the Jedi Guard in front of him.

"Taruun-oyo." Akeem called down the hall. "I am Akeem, heir protector of the Royal family and current prisoner of the Jedi, apparently." Akeem stared the Jedi Guard down, readying himself for an engagement. His body was recovered now and the feelings of a clash were only making his senses sharper. He could feel his lightsaber on his belt, ready to call it to his grasp at a moment's notice. Hopefully this guard would see sense and they wouldn't have to clash at all. Not with all of Corsin in danger.

"Your Jedi here." He continued to Taruun. "Refuses to let me leave or heed my warning: there is an attack coming here to Corsin. Specifically, the same forces that I encountered on Elyseum. They will be here any minute. The realm protector has summoned me back to Haruun Kal and I fully intend to meet her call."

His grasp tightened on his sword's hilt. But this feeling of anticipation was not like the one he had felt on Elyseum when he encountered the masked assassin. The thought of fighting a Jedi awakened no bloodlust in Akeem. No sense of aggression. He only longed for the clashing of blades with his enemies and, no matter how he felt about the Jedi right now, they were not his enemy. So...the possible confrontation with this Jedi guard did not bring the kind of satisfaction he might've expected. It would be...regrettable and it made him hesitate.

"If this Jedi doesn't remove himself from my path, you know what I will be forced to do."

    IC: Senator Aryan Graul
Terrace of the Chancellor’s Tower, Republica, Chandrila

Like so many other functions hosted by the inept Chancellor, this party was a farce. The invitation lauded the ascension of one of the youngest military leaders of their time, though Aryan Graul saw right through the rich pageantry to recognize the corruption at its core. It was all pomp with little substance, a vain attempt by the Chancellor to reinforce his political agenda in the face of diminishing numbers.

His objective was rather obvious, which is why Aryan and his political ally and friend, Deon of Kuat, had decided to arrive fashionably late in order to prove a point.

However, the whole occasion felt insignificant compared to the wider concern that continued to plague Graul’s mind. Arek, his son, was dead. That thought overshadowed everything, eating away at his very soul and making the most menial of tasks a monumental effort to fulfill. It was a wonder that he had even agreed to attend today’s festivities, especially when his wife had refused to accompany him.

Lyz had hidden herself away since the incident, her grief too great to endure the pressures of the public’s scrutiny. While Aryan would have liked to do the same, he understood the importance of maintaining a professional image. He could not allow this to damage his reputation; it was the price he paid for fame and success. The only consolation was that their daughter, Jalynne, had announced that she was coming home from the university to assist them during this difficult time.

Until then, Aryan would have to do his best to work through these tragic events in his own way. It had been an arduous journey so far, even if it had merely been days. He noticed that he had grown a little more jaded, a little more cynical, and perhaps even indignant toward the people who had failed Arek on such a fundamental level, but he was adamant that he would prevail.

He repeated those sentiments to himself as they stepped off the turbolift and entered the spacious terrace. It was only then, in the midst of the revelry and celebration, that Graul recalled Deon’s words on the shuttle: "Maybe if you reach out to the council, the Jedi will reveal what they know. They always treasured the sacrifice of you allowing your son to be trained."

The Senator had tuned him out at the time, but now it came surging back, likely as a deterrent to avoid interacting with the other patrons that were steadily approaching their position. Regardless of the reason, he now frowned at the reminder, his disdain for the Jedi Order showing through his demeanor. With the way they had mishandled the circumstances surrounding Arek's involvement, it was as if they didn’t respect the sacrifice Aryan had made for their benefit.

Or was it for your benefit?

Clenching his jaw, he pushed that thought from his mind as he canted his head to study Deon out of the corner of his eye. “It’s unacceptable that the Jedi haven’t reached out already,” Graul grumbled in a gravelly baritone. “I shouldn’t have to chase them down for answers, especially if it’s true about them holding my decision in such high regard. Why remain silent? This is my son. I can’t help but wonder if there is some underlying conspiracy–”

He trailed off when they encountered the first group of guests, his scowl quickly dissolving into a wan smile. Aryan already knew how the next few hours were going to unfold – he would be inundated by a constant barrage of condolences and regrets, each attendee taking a moment to express their heartfelt sympathies about the loss of his son. It would be exhausting, difficult, and awkward, and he certainly wasn’t in the mood to indulge in such pleasantries.

    And yet, here he was.

This is going to be a very long night…

Inhaling deeply, Graul extended his hand to greet a fellow Senator as he started through the masses. While he was aware of the guard lurking on his periphery, he did not react to his presence. For all he knew, it was all routine, particularly when he took into account the social status of those in attendance.

Soa had heard rumors about the Prism. It had been in use in the days after the failed Sith Resurgance. Originally a Jedi facility that was later used by the Empire and finally returned to the Jedi. A place to lock away the most dangerous force users and criminals of the galaxy.

What had Canos done? He had not killed any Jedi, as no Jedi had fallen through the hand of another since the Order had been reborn.

The man had been considered dead for one and a half decades, after being locked in with some of the most dangerous criminals. The story began to take shape.

"Did Canos know Master Do Sal-Kran?" Soa wondered if Elyseum had been plain and simple revenge.

Tanee listed closely as the other Jedi spoke, She had never heard of the Prism before, and probably with good reason. But why in the Force would you look away the most dangerous Force users with ancient Sith artifacts sounded more like a training ground to her. She turned her head slightly when the other Jedi asked a question.

"Did Canos know Master Do Sal-Kran?" Soa asked aloud. Tanee decided to respond to her. So she spoke up, "I belive so, because of the way he..."

Tanee froze as a powerful wave of energy hit the Force and seemed to envelop her. A small gasp escaped her lips as she heard a message, and it was from someone she immediately recognized, having felt his energy before.

//"HE IS HERE! CANOS IS HERE!"// the message screamed within the Force around her.

Tanee wavered for a moment, and she looked towards Knight Saleen. "Canos is here on the planet!" She told Saleen. "Janis..I felt Janis in the Force. He said that Canos is here, and I fear he has Janis now." Tanee told those around her, as she concentrated, trying to pinpoint where they might be. By the Force, his mental sending was strong. She was not like him. But it seemed that he had just made a link. She wondered, if Janis has left the hospital, they might be trying to leave the immediate area. Maybe even a ship.

Tanee looked to those around her, hopeful. But she concentrated as hard as she could within the Force. She might not reach him, but she would try.

    //"BE STRONG!"//

Tanee shook a bit. She didn't think he would be here quite so soon. But she had to help Janis if she could.

    Orbit of Corsin

The first wave appeared almost silently from hyperspace. A hundred Empress-Class Star Destroyers, a design never seen by anybody serving the Third Republic left hyperspace. A bit over a kilometer long and sleek they were much easier to move than the old imperial ships, but held the same firepower.

Behind them a wave of another hundred ships jumped in, including droid control hubs, siege platforms, carriers, command ships and more and more of the Empress-Class destroyers.

As wave after wave arrived the first attack group released hundreds of Torpedos and opened fire from thousands of turbo laser batteries as TIE-X swarmed out of their hangars like swarms of angry insects.

The Republic's 2nd fleet was almost completely present, but had formed a ring around the planet. Half the fleet was not even able to see the attack, when a hundred ships of the Third Republic's 2nd fleet were overwhelmed by the sudden incoming ships. A sixth of the fleet was obliterated before they could even get their shield up or ship out their fighters. Among those ships was the carrier "Kenobi", which held the second Admiral of the fleet.

Admiral Farlander saw the fleet and thousands of incoming messages and alarms overwhelmed his communication console. Taqbar his aide stepped next to him. "Sir, the fleet needs orders."

The Admiral saw the ships on his display go to orange or red quicker than he would ever had considered it possible. "Yes, yes. Admiral Farlander to fleet, prepare for battle. Take formation ..." He blinked trying to concentrate what formation made sense or was even possible. In all his 45 years of service he had never had to command an entire fleet in battle. Nobody had done anything like this.

"I ..." He looked helpless as he saw more and more ships arrive.

Over the comm-unit came the sensor arrays response as a priority message.

"Dropships incoming, both troops and heavy duty." The planetary defense reported.

"How many?" That was General Grennel.

There was a long pause in the line. The communications officer clearly was shocked by the numbers.

"Thousands, Sir. Too many." The voice was trembling.

The Battle of Corsin had begun. Or as the historians would often call it ... The Massacre of Corsin.

Saleen looked at Tanee for a long moment, but did not allow herself to be infected by the panic raising in the young apprentice. „That makes no sense, coming here alone . . .“ She snored.

Master Lamia reached out and hear eyes widened. „I cannot locate him, but I sense darkness. A great darkness. Can you locate the boy, Tanee? Can you find Canos?“

Saleen looked around and then turned around. „You must warn the fleet! An attack! They are attacking Corsin!“ She looked at Soa Sten and realized, she had all the time thought she was going on a hunt, when truly she would be the hunted.

That moment the alarms began ringing . . .

Master Lamia looked at Saleen and then nodded. „Knight Sten, proceed as agreed. I feel you are on to something there and we must solve this riddle. Saleen, Tanee, you come with me. If Canos he is alive, it is time to correct my mistake.“ She took the lightsaber from her belt. „Once and for all!“

She marched out of the hall and towards the platform, where a speeder was still waiting.

    Corsin, Jedi Academy, The Quarters

Taruun Cesto approached them and clearly he was not there by accident. He gave the two men a smirk, but it was not entirely convincing.

"What do you have to do then, child? Get humiliated by a true Jedi?" Cesto smirked. "Take that hand of that lightsaber or I will cut it off and don't you think your aunt will do anything but thank me for putting you in your place!" Cesto stared at Akeem and finally turned to the Guard. "Stand down." Cesto ordered the guard as he approached the quarters.

"Knight Cesto, I was under orders not to let the Apprentice leave his quarters." The Guard said, not letting her eyes off Akeem.

Cesto nodded. "I am aware of your orders. The Masters have asked me to bring the young Bestat to them."

"I was not informed about such a transfer." The Guard said and Cesto smiled.

"I am just informing you." Cesto said with a calm voice. The Guard looked at him and finally nodded.

"Understood, Knight Cesto." He said and stepped aside. "You may leave with Knight Cesto."

Cesto gestured to the boy and quickly walked away from the quarters with him.

"I really hope your aunt knows what she is doing. This will cause me a lot of trouble." He said as they made it around the corner.

That moment the alarms began ringing . . .

    Corsin, City

The alarms of the city were loud and had never been heard before. It was the evacuation order someone had given and it lead to exactly what had to be expected: panic. The kind of panic that was usually called „wide-spread panic“. It did not help when above explosions were seen in the atmosphere and then a minute later the sky almost darkened from smaller crafts entering the atmosphere.

Khan, as Kalina was now called by everybody, was soon joined by five of her twelve comrades. Those were the ones available. Nobody had expected an attack. As the second in command she was now giving the orders, as Shyla was absent.

„Who is this? I mean, who attacks the 2nd fleet? Some crazy pirates?“ Lorn asked from her side, wearing an almost identical armor to Kahn and looking at Kya. The speeder-platform they used was allowing them a good look at what was coming above though. „Okay, no pirates.“ Lorn hissed and double-checked his rifle. The spaceport was their drop off area and it was one of the biggest spaceports in the quadrant. Over a thousand ships had room there and it had about fifteen entrances. They needed to protect all, which meant they needed reinforcements quickly.

    Corsin City (outer reaches)

„117th is on it‘s way, we try to get mechanical infantry in, but their ETA is in half an hour.“ Shyla came over the comm-link. „Try your best to secure the main gate, I arrive with the 17th.“ That would be easier said then done, as people already began to swarm into the direction of the spaceport. „Sergant Toqudar at all available troops, we have initiated emergency evacuation measures. All pilots please return to their ships! I repeat, all pilots please repeat to their ships!“

For Matthias Kya it was not the force from above that was most remarkable, though. It was the sudden burst of cold and deadly determination that was perceived in the force. The Dark Side sweat into the place and every sense felt dampened suddenly, as if a fog lay over the force.

But there was a light in the fog. A wildfire in the force, raw and yet powerful. As he looked around he saw the fearful look of Janis Callisto as he was lead by Canos into an alley that lead to one of the side entrances. Kya felt the boy, what was more surprising was probably the absolute absence of the man who lead him.

Canos passed the main plaza and ignored the main entrance, instead he walked straight to the side entrance and two guards were just taking position there, loading their guns. They never knew what it was, that they suddenly felt a hand around their neck tightening, before their necks cracked and their bodies collapsed. A wave of the finger and the door opening mechanism of the side entrance was activated. It beeped and showed a red light. Canos, now under hos hood waved his hand in a gesture that seemed effortless and the door was ripped from the stone and hurled into the opposite wall. „Follow me.“ He simply said.

In front of them lay the garden that had been planted in the center of the spaceport. People we’re running g into all directions. Panic was spreading.

    Corsin, The Stardust Cantina

„Good idea.“ Vatek now saw the two red armored men, too. „Maybe Anda has believed me after all.“ He sighed and looked at Sera and Jeorge. Anda the Chiss was a famous smuggler, running a rather large operation and she had a reputation for ambition and ruthlessness. He cargo was mostly slaves, a practice abolished by the Third Republic and the Free Systems. Anda worked naturally for the Hutts mostly in that line of business.

The red armored man at the front door allowed his look to run over the cantina and then he saw Vatek and his gaze remained upon him. Slowly he raised his gun. „You go nowhere, Vatek. My mistress wants to have a word with you.“ The Guavian soldier said and one could hear the grin under his mask almost.

Then a loud and aggressive sound cut into reality. A horn, unlike any they had ever heard. Evacuation alarm. The planet was to be evacuated. This distracted the soldier for a moment, a long moment Sera and her first mate had to react, if they wanted.

Above Corsin, Aboard the MC-120 Cruiser Vigilance , Tactical Room

The Admiral was visibly shaken by this attack and tried to get order into the constantly changing sensor data. The fleet was attacked at the center of the ring and cut into two now. The enemy fighter concentrated on the left of both halfs, which meant they were coming for the three battleground surrounding the Vigilance. They were planning to behead the command structure of the 2nd fleet, before they could reorganize the fleet, obviously.

Outside a holo Sid would never have seen anything like this. A perfect coordination of ships, maneuvers probably played through for years and Captains who executed their plan to the letter. The enemy was highly organized.

    Chandrila

Republica, Terrace of the Chancellors Tower

Senator Sedos Tavon watched Deon of Kuat and Aryan Graul arrive and nodded to Caardas. „I will leave you to your mission then.“ He smiled and turned to the young Admiral to give him a polite and short congratulation on the promotion.

Caardas would have a chance to talk to Graul right here, also he would have to fight his way through the Senators from all factions fighting to express their deeply felt sympathies.

Deon of Kuat had been thinking of the Jedi and their lack of contact to Graul. The Jedi of this age had tried to learn from their predecessors and had stayed out of politics, only maintaining a token presence on Chandrila to hold contact with the Senate. Deacon spotted the sole Jedi Master Daru at the fringe of the assembled.

Master Daru (who is not meditating right now)

He smiled and left Aryan to the condolences that were as expected brought to his attention. Deon wandered over to the Jedi Master, greeting several Senators on his way. The senate guard followed him, the hand slowly sinking on the blaster pistol at his belt. Jerec was only meters away from him, with two or three guests between them. The man was clearly following Deon now.

Aryan Graul was left alone by Deon and dozens of guests approached him to express their sympathies. „There is always a truth hidden in loss, Senator.“ The voice of the woman dragged Aryan probably from his stream of conversations. The woman was wearing the uniform of a navy commander. „Your son must not have died in vain. There is a time when we should probably talk what purpose the mindless murder of a young Jedi can serve.“ She looked Aryan into the eyes. „Or who is responsible for his death.“ The woman looked to the Jedi at the fringes of the assembly.

    Trian

Sauca Vai, Ground Level and Desert

Redmon climbed into his T-1 glider, opened the cockpit and jumped inside.

„I said he won‘t do it for credits, I did not say he will do it for free.“ He laughed and fired up the engines. He fired up his engines, which started with something that sounded like a cough. These things were ancient, but still flying and with their two blaster canons quite well armed for a ship that size.

He waited for his new boss to sit and do the same heh ad done and then accelerated, taking the ship out of the hangar and into the desert.

It was a vast desert, empty and hostile. Dry. Hot. The windows of the gliders were darkened, so the brightness did not affect the pilot.

They quickly left the city behind them and reached the rocky stone formations nearby. It was hard to tell if they were actually ancient ruins or just strange formations. Between them in the distance Valerius would see a caravan passing the dune sea on strange alien creatures.

„The passa, they trade water and food between the tribes.“ Redmon explained. „Harmless folks.“

They passed the rocks and the sand got a more yellowish color. „The sea of sorrow, we call this part of the desert. Because sorrow is the only thing you find if you try to pass it. It goes on and on, covering half the continent. The dune sea out here can be endless.“ Redmon took a sharp left and after a few comminuted they reached what looked like an old potentially abandoned outpost. Redmon took his ship down and landed skillfully in the sand, watching Valerius who he managed the bumpy ride the T-1 was. Then he opened the cockpit, checked his blaster rifle and put it on his back.

As Valerius climbed down the glider, he recognized a man standing right behind them. He could have sworn he had not been there before and there was really no way he could have sneaked up on them, yet he stood there staring at him.

„Hey Rulan, I got an off-worldly here who needs to talk to the hunters. They call themselves a guild now, did you know that?“

Rulan stared for a long moment at Valerius and then turned to Redmon. When he spoke his voice was raspy and hard to understand, with a strange accent.

„What they call themselves, does not change what they are. What do you require of the sacred hunters, offworlder?“ He asked and turned to Valerius.

„He is looking for someone. Can you introduce us? Can we have your blessing?“ Redmon asked. „I would be in your debt. You know I pay my debts.“

The man stared at Valerius still. „Dead men cannot pay debts. You are not welcome among the hunters. Maybe he is. That depends on his desire and if he is one of those who hunt for fortune or one of those who think they can use the sacred hunt for their advantage.“ He left it completely open what of both alternatives was the right and welcome one.
