Hmmm, just realised my only football shirt is a Croatian one. Might have to watch the game at home on Sunday.

Worse, the first was Busquets who is probably their most important player.

First matching starting in an hour, Turkey vs Italy any predictions? I think Italy will win 2-1 but Turkey will cause them troubles.

One of my favorite moments of any football tournament is the joy of hearing the Italians trying to sing a national anthem that is impossible to sing.

    Spain's is harder.

But speaking of National Anthems, the Swiss national anthem is great. What I would love is for the opposing fans to sing "Happy Birthday, dear Switzerland" after the 2nd line

My absolute favorite is Uruguay, that simply went for a whole operetta for their anthem, but that can only be heard at the World Cup.

The question is if Italy was so good that Turkey looked bad, or if Turkey is so bad that Italy looked good.

Little bit of both I think. Anyway prediction for today's matches:
    Wales vs Switzerland 1-1
    Denmark vs Finland 2-0
    Belgium vs Russia 3-0

So how do you become eligible to play in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland or England? For most other teams I assume you need a passport, but since they are all part of the UK how do you know where you could play? Or is it just a question of not getting chosen for the England team and then you can always find some connection to the other countries and play for them?

Not quite. You may be British but depending on WHERE in the country you were born and grew up along with ancestry kind of determines the nation you play for

e.g. I'm English, born in Cumbria and live in England all my life, my ancestry is English so I am eligible for England. Had my Grandparents or parents been Scottish, then I would also be eligible for Scotland as well.
Its a complicated set up and one that is taken advantage of frequently

I understand that there must be a connection, but I also assumed that you could also dig up some not so strong connection to be able to play for them.

Oh god yeah, Wales and Ireland have both dug up some very very tenuous connections to get players to be eligible for them

I was born in London, and if I had ever been good enough to play international football I would naturally qualify for England, but also the Republic of Ireland, courtesy of having Irish parents.

Raheem Sterling, Terry Butcher and John Barnes all play/played for England, though born elsewhere, but became naturalised in England. Owen Hargreaves qualified by virtue of having an English father, though could have played for Wales (his mother was Welsh), or Canada, where he was born.

Sometimes the connection is more tenuous: by virtue of having a single grandparent from that country. As a consequence, some people qualify to play for several countries, based on where they were born, where they grew up and where their parents or grandparents came from.
