I’m playing a platformer for the first time in many years. Giving the Ori games a try after hearing so many good things. I sucked at first, couldn’t even wall jump consistently, but I’m having a great time now that I’ve cleared off some of the rust. Wonderful game.

    I probably should’ve specified good 3D platformers. :p

Yeah, I struggle to think of a better franchise that debuted in this console generation than Ori.

Saw a trailer for an intriguing new game, The Pathless, on PS5.

Then found out its by the team that did Abzu!

I am worried that will be another GAAS game though. I am interested in the idea but worried until we get more details.

Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima would like a word.

Oh, live service. Yeah, I can't see them going near that.

The recent Godfall trailer was really going for the anti-live service ground.

I don’t consider Ghost a franchise, at least until a sequel is (inevitably) announced. And Ori >>> Horizon, so I stand by my statement. Until Ghost of 2shima. :p

I haven't played Ori, but I don't see how any platformer can be more complex than Horizon. Also Ghost will definitely be a franchise of some kind, even if it's with a different character.

Complex =/= Good. I just found Horizon to be extremely dull gameplay-wise, and I didn’t care for the story. Whereas both Ori games had me enthralled from start to finish, and they play so well. The gold standard of their genre, where Horizon’s just another open world action game in which I did everything I could to avoid the action because the combat was bad.

But I realize I’m in a small minority of people who weren’t impressed with Zero Dawn, and I’m fine with that. To each their own. :p

Yeaaah most people found the combat in Horizon to be amazing. You are definitely in a minority there :p

I'm playing through the AC series in anticipation for Valhalla (almost done with Black Flag) but damn, if Ghost of Tsushima doesn't look tempting.

    Help :(

Play the games you want to play. What's the big deal? If money is the issue, I'm sure a sale will come soon.

I also didn't care for the combat in HZD, yet for some reason I want to give it another go on PC. Maybe the extra frames are what I'm missing.

I agree with Evan. Play what you want. There's no requirement to finish a game you're playing before starting another one. It's a pastime, not a job :p

My take re: Horizon's combat is that it's pretty fun when you're fighting robots, but noticeably less so when it it pits you against other humans.

Still on Ori and the Blind Forest. Trying to get a secret power up thing. I think I have all the required skills to do so, I've got almost all the secrets already, but I couldn't figure this one out, so I finally turned to a guide.

Turns out, you don't need any skills at all. It's under a rickety wooden bridge, and you can press down+jump and drop through these bridges from the beginning of the game. It's like the first thing the game teaches you, and this bridge is in like the third area you enter. I'm such a ****ing idiot, I went back to it over and over and tried to break it by various means.
