Have you tried playing older games on new TVs? Depending on graphic style the results vary. Generally, the more realistic a style is, the worse it can look on screen size it wasn't designed for.

But, that's by the by, the more important point is the remaster of FFXII is a different game to the PS2 version. It's only a remaster for Japan, for the rest of the world it's closer to a remake due to how it plays.

 

Does the remaster of XII fix the awful story and boring characters (Fran and Balthier aside)?

 

No, only in how it plays - the Switch extras allow for role reset / respec of the party too, which is why I wanted them on PS4.

 

Fran is the only reason I'd even consider replaying the game.

 

My bro just texted saying he has had a sudden urge to replay all of Kingdom Hearts.

 

Translation - he's out of games.

 

I keep looking at Kingdom Hearts in my GamePass library and thinking maaaaaaaaybe?

 

He really isn't. He just loves Disney.

 

Oh well, worth a shot given how fast he went through Ghost of Tsuschima!

 

He is playing the Kingdoms of Amalur remake. Yeah he does go through fast, he doesn't work right now due to Covid so he will play like 8 hours a day.

 

That one should keep him occupied for a bit.

Wow. That came out of ****ing nowhere. Not even rumors about it.

Wtf. I guess Microsoft's strategy is just "if we can't make good games, we will just buy people who can". Wow that's huge. I really hope this doesn't mean ESO doesn't work on PS5 because I already paid for that game years ago.

 

Microsoft are becoming the Disney of video games.

 

Except Disney at least still makes some of their own stuff through their own original studio

 

Wasteland 3 seems to have not been affected by Microsoft's purchase of inXile, for good (storyline, themes, etc.) and bad (there are a ****-ton of bugs, from small to gamebreaking)...

 

I feel like the only MS game from their own studios I can think of from the past year is Crackdown 3.... Which was supposed to be terrible.

Meanwhile Sony released Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2 both.

Microsoft just hasn't even put out many exclusives lately. Although I guess Elder Scrolls 6 is probably still a ways off too for Bethesda.

 

ES6 is probably 4-5 years away, as Starlight is first, but the bigger problem is FO76 nuked trust in Bethesda.

 

Bethesda as a developer are trash. I can't see how being bought by Microsoft can make their output much worse. They publish some great stuff though so seeing that on Game Pass is great.

Still, Microsoft hoovering up all these companies does give me some cause for concern. They seem willing to put their games on other platforms for now, but that can always change. Consolidating studios under fewer and fewer mega-corporations should worry everyone.

I like playing Bethesda games, personally. *shrug*.

 

Bethesda's own games are unforgivably buggy, but I don't expect the acquisition to improve anything. Just another gigantic corporation getting more gigantic-er. Watch that stock go up! Forever!
