I downloaded Goldeneye via GamePass this morning. The graphics are just as crude as ever, but it’s still just as much of a fun challenge as I remember. This brought back a lot of memories of my teenage self clustered around an 18” TV with three of my friends as we all had a blast shooting each other.

    No Oddjob!

Sony, Xbox, and Nintendo are all sitting out the revamped E3 this year.

    Rip E3... Again.

Keighly isn't E3. He's Summer Games Fest and The Game Awards, both of which are doing great.

That is… that is in fact the reason I posted that clip…

I interpreted that clip as "evil laughter devolving into pain" because I've never seen The Simpsons and don't understand cartoons.

No it’s just evil victory laughter.

And just when I posted not long about about Naughty Dog suggesting an end to both Uncharted and TLOU.

Fans Think Sony Is Teasing A New Uncharted Starring Nathan Drake’s Kid

I know it's all rumors and guessing at this point, but I will say that if there's a new Uncharted game starring Cassie Drake, that's a Day-1 pre-order for me.

Absolutely. You know it's been set up to happen eventually. Although I would expect another studio to do it instead of ND.

Xboxers, what is going on here:

Get email from MS saying an item on my wishlist is in sale, with sale cost indicated

Go to my Xbox wish list and it isn't on sale.

Is this MS emailing me PS+ only style offers that I can only access by GamePass?

To my surprise I've gone back to Kingdom Hearts II. Despite a stupidly designed boss fight, it's started to improve.

The biggest barrier was the Vivi battle in Struggle. (Where adults make kids fight each other.) The problem is Vivi practically has a longsword to the player's shortsword. Somehow I got a couple of hits in, nabbed the orbs and kited him until the clock ran out.

After that it got better, albeit remaining uneven. It's probably doomed to the fate of most KH games, best exemplified by Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance, of a massive game destroying difficulty boss spike. (Unless you have spent many hours on an opaque upgrade system.)

The biggest problem with the series is it lies - you cannot breeze through the games on Beginner, despite it claiming you can. Then there's the floaty combat, bad camera, lock-on beeaking enemies, block breaking enemies, ineffective to non-existent dodging, a menu system that will be another enemy - good luck selecting what you want when you want it - boss comboes that stun lock and take 50% minimum off your health. The games are a mess.

By a minor miracle - well that and some level grinding, just got past Erequs in Birth by Sleep. That bastard can burn. Which is where the difficulty cripples the story. You're supposed to be sad about taking him out, but it didn't work because he was such a total bastard of a boss fight. It wasn't good, enjoyable and the difficulty spike came out of nowhere. Got past it, got a bit further and here's another blatant wall that boils down to: Don't play this game, go watch someone else do it on YouTube it'll be more fun.

Dream Drop Distance does the same thing but worse, with one enemy that spams their reduce-your-HP-to-1 attack. It does nothing good for the game, it's self destructive idiocy.

The only reason Kingdom Hearts IV might be good is Kingdom Hearts III and its prelude were mostly easier. Though both did final boss bollocks.

So yeah, on balance, the odds aren't great for Kingdom Hearts II but I might at least be able to see a bit more of it.

Xbox’s pricing presentation has always been finicky for me. I only ever really use the store on the console, but sometimes it will say “1 item from your wish list is on sale,” but when I scroll through the list they’re all full price. I usually have to back out and go back in for it to fix, or go to the specific page of the game I’m looking for.

Thanks - my experience is, even booting up on XBX, it's hit and miss, do nab stuff if I can buy sometimes the offer isn't there. Hence my suspecting it's a GP-exclusive offer.

I don’t know that I’ve seen very many (or any at all) Game Pass exclusive deals that are for individual games not already on the service. Most of those are related to DLC for games that are on Game Pass. Deals with Gold is still a thing, though, but even those are pretty rare. In any given week there are hundreds of discounted games/DLC on the Xbox store, but when you go to the Deals with Gold page, there are maybe 20-30 sales in there. If you got an email about a game you want, I’d check the store on the console itself to be sure.

I've started playing Shadow of the Colossus, which has been on my Playstation library backlog for at least five years or so from a PS Plus freebie. It's definitely a strange game, and the controls take some time to get used to. I've already brought down the first of the Giants. I've read online that it's not a very long game, which is fine by me.

Hogwarts Legacy sitting at a shocking 86 on Metacritic.

Might actually put off Like a Dragon Ishin to play it.

Arrrghhh, Mankind Divided. The game expects, for no reason, that you'll go to the secret underground casino of a violent monster who sent thugs to shoot up a friend's bookstore and have a peaceful concersation. Not that you'll realize until it's too late that if you just do the stealth or full assault options to retrieve a quest item, you'll miss out on an entire quest line.
The game really drives me nuts, sometimes.

    Re: Hogwarts Legacy

Just wait until certain individuals get wind of the full possibilities of polyjuice potion, along with the standard character respec options - it'll all kick off.

ACG has a review that is pretty positive. Not sure who else is covering it.

I'll get Hogwarts Legacy second hand. Not planning on buying anything that'll benefit Rowling directly.

I do feel sorry for the developers though as I suspect they're going to face flak because of her which is unfair on them

Yeah, I don't have any ill will towards the people who worked on it, but there's zero chance I'm ever buying it. My fondness for the franchise was already heading downhill even before Rowling's terf ****.
