I was going to get Hitman 2 anyway, given that the last game almost reached the heady highs of Blood Money, but this news just secured a pre-order from me.

Should be easier than Busey at least. He was an immortal robot with the power of invisibility.

Given it's Sean Bean, it'll probably be too easy. IO missed a trick by not making this the first Hitman mission where you have to go against impossible odds and prevent the target from dying.

I've done something I ordinarily dislike, and pre-ordered Hitman 2. I've done pre-orders I think... three times? GTA V, Project Cars 2 (but that was to secure the collector's set with the 1:48 TrueScaleModel McLaren 720s), and now this.

I know Even will disapprove and frankly that's why I did it with a credit card.

    Revisiting this game:

It's....actually grown on me a little despite being a very poor retelling of Craig's first two films.

If anything, this game suffers from two things:

    1. Bad timing: releasing a Craig-era game in 2008 for the 007 franchise could have only gone one of two ways - a page by page retelling of Casino Royale OR similar treatment of a dedicated Quantum of Solace game. Since the two films take place within minutes of one another, there was never the option of doing a game set between the two films nor could you really do a Casino Royale prequel since that film is Bond's first mission. Also, the game was actually released before the titular film (so, at the time of release, spoilers). Therefore, we get the mashup. Personally, a Casino Royale game with varied play styles and "unreleased" scenes could have been pretty good. I would have killed for a poker mission!

    2. Rushed Development Time: this game has deadline written all over it. Cinematics take the form of digital interfaces, expository dialogue is via voiceover and the gameplay style is fairly limited. It's a tie-in game.

But, i'm actually having fun with it. I'm only using the Walther PPK or had to hand combat while not using the cover system.

Not great but a little better than I remember it.

It didn't have the PPK. It had the P99.

And frankly the Hitman games have given us a perfect insight into how a Bond game should be done. Spoiler; not as a shooter.

    Agreed.

Don't even get me started on that Goldeneye remake.

Yeah, varied methods of takedown, real world "gadgets", open world - basically, a style of gameplay which captures the tone of Bond's intellect in terms accomplishing a mission in a set space. Guns blazing, stealth, intimidation/interrogation - whatever is required and it's totally up to the player (almost like Deus Ex). Have some incentives for being a "ghost" while the more guns blazing approach results in lower payday, a scolding from M and less choice in mission weapons and gadgets.

Last night I was playing the Tosca mission and was thinking to myself "this should have been like the Hitman 'Curtains Down' mission. Of course, the game conveniently has the mission take place when there are no members of the public in attendance. Again, budget.

This is what happen in American Trucks Simulator when you go 90 miles per hour downhill and have to make a sudden swerve.

Reminds me of the only time I played GTA. My boyfriend told me to play for a bit, so I stole a semi truck, drove it as fast as possible, and crashed directly into a gas station for a giant explosion while laughing maniacally.

Basically, I won the game immediately and never felt the need to go back.

Just Cause fills such an essential niche in open world design. Sometimes you just need to grapple a goat to another goat and retract them into each other.

I was happy when I found a fighter-bomber I could use to rain destruction down on people who couldn't fight back. It made me feel like an American.

Sir have you played Ghost Recon Wildlands? You can brutalise Bolivians with actual impunity. Nothing makes you feel like God's Own Bringer of Freedom than this.

So we used to have a racing series not unlike the Blancpain GT3 series, using community made tracks with pitlanes etc through the GTAO Creator. Our track turned right down the road past the Sandy Shores Airfield, then right again onto the road that runs up to the freeway and facilitates access to Grapeseed.

Because GTAO is peer to peer and I'm in Australia, I'm racing at at least 330ms ping.

I'm ahead of my team mate in the #1 car (we're driving Comets). I go to the left of the track to pass a slower moving Coquette that got a bad exit. The gas station is protected by a tyre barrier, but get this - my lag triggers a server wide contact with the bowsers. The first explodes as we go past, prompting a what the ****. The explosion sets the second bowser on fire, which detonates in time to destroy (literally) my teammate.

There is a video of it somewhere, but let's just show you how good lag in GTA is for racing:

I moved to the right to let him through and somehow the game translates that as aggressively turning in on him.

Needless to say, I stopped GTA Racing.

This is what happens when you hit the sausage curbs at the first retefillo at Monza at 90mph:

    I can relate.

When I was playing Sleeping Dogs I gave my girlfriend at the time a go. A few minutes in, some driver NPC was rude or bumped into her, I can't recall which. She promptly pulled the poor fellow out of his car and stuffed him in the boot, before hopping into the driver's seat, switching on the radio, and driving it directly into the South China Sea. She then swam back to shore and bought pork buns to eat while he drowned.

I was somewhat taken aback that this was her instinctive reaction, rather than ignoring or shooting/Kung-Fuing the guy.

She was correct though. The rudeness could have lost Wei Shen considerable face, and the only way for such a grievous insult to be remedied is death.

EA and Activision's value have gone up by a combined $79 billion thanks in large part to microtransactions. Here's Jim Sterling ranting about it. I like the way he says "AAA."

so... I want to love ACO a lot, but... it's a padded game in the worst possible way. There's no escaping that they've gone for BUT MORE IS MORE as an outcome, which is a pity because these are the most lifelike cities I've seen in an AC game (almost up there with Witcher 3 for "alive" cities) and the whole "ruins of the Greco-Persian wars" aspect is something I've not seen done to this extent.

    Sigh.

So, what are your favorite gaming of this decade so far? For me it's:

    1. The suicide mission (Mass Effect 2)
    2. Ending E (NieR: Automata)
    3. Madagascar Chase (Uncharted 4: A Thief's End)
    4. Riding into Mexico for the first time (Red Dead Redemption)
    5. Escape from the burning monastery (Tomb Raider)
    6. Time travel level (Titanfall 2)
    7. Senator Armstrong boss fight (Metal Rising: Revengeance)
    8. Kratos takes up the blades of chaos again (God of War)
    9. Geralt helps a noblewoman's spirit find peace (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt)

The ending of Witcher 3. By that, I mean the ending of the Blood and Wine DLC. The definitive way to close out a game series.
Stepping out of the vault for the first time and seeing the ruins of DC in Fallout 3.

Still not finished Wither 3 (Blood and wine) I'm really close but I don't want a great story to end so I'm waiting until the urge hits to finish it.

RDR2 hits tomorrow though so that may be put off a little though

The "kill all these 48 randos" thing is definitely disappointing. Although I've enjoyed all the real side missions. And of course the world.

I do enjoy it a lot, but I think I liked Origins' world a bit more. Its Egypt was just so interesting and full. Maybe because I've been to Greece it's not as amazing to see come to life.
