Ok people, I don't think it's a good idea to try and get other posters to make you free Star Wars props.

So lets give ol' ODJ a break, he shouldn't have to be out of pocket doing this.

So I think that's it's only fair that if you want him to make you a lightsaber hilt, you should be prepared to pay the standard going rate for it.

Of course it's up to him at the end of the day, but some people feel awkward asking for money and might be willing to do it as a favour, which isn't really what fan force is about.

    That is all.

    ***NEWSFLASH***

I am cheap, I aint doing it for free. :p I'd charge for the material and a bit extra for the labour and if you wanted a painted dowel to screw into the hilt I'll probably be able to do that to.

Take it to PMs from this point forward please. You're bordering on advertising unlicensed props...

Nah. Bassically I send wave after wave of loyal subjects to attack the military industrial complex, then when the time is right, I come out of my bunker and rule as a dictator.

Hmmm, have you guys noticed how all the threads on here are starting to sound the same?

Just to follow this up, and show that us lot -do- actually get the effects done (though i still cba with Welshguy's footage cos it's just awkward ;) )

    [link=http://s56.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0XHKTUCC0P8CB0KU7M88GZLI95]Clickie.[/link]

Will only be there for the first 25 downloads or so. If you've been on the FanFilms board at all you might have seen this there along with my tutorial on how to get some rvb-esque glows, which is what that mimicks (seens as a couple people asked me about doing it)

Course, i'd stress at this point, if you don't like that, the blades don't have to be done in that style, but on that one i was trying to get a bit of an rvb-style. It's a little rough around the edges because i did it in a few hours, but at least it's there ;)

    Welcome back Master Rhys!

It's been far too long. :)

So, apart from the special effects thing, what you been up to?

By the way, I clicked on the link and it didn't work. It was just a dead end i'm afraid. The link worked and everything, there was just nothing to see.

So I assume that the "25" limit you mentioned has already been breached.

But I would love to see the kind of work your doing. Is there any other way you can get this up?

I have actually been here, just mainly on the fanfilms boards. I haven't got any space myself to upload the file, so you can get it [link=http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1VU30IBNPVUNM1PR7ZXKTCYAT2]here[/link] or if that fails, [link=http://media.putfile.com/end5268]here,[/link] you should see a page which gives you the option to download the file.

I've been very busy, and special effects isn't my main line of work, so that might explain lack of posting.

Very impressive quality I must say.

It's called Ryan vs Brandon, two pretty well known guys in the star wars dueling world.

You can find the full version over at rvb.michaelfrisk.com, where you can download it. It's very impressive (and i had nothing to do with the official version btw, i got hold of unedited footage and tried my own version, which is what the above clip is)

    Check it out.

    Opps! Totally forgot about this.

Guess that pretty much sums up my opinion about the movie.

Technically excellent, but totally deviod of any emotion and passion.

Too clinical for my tastes. There was no anger or feeling with their fighting, it was more like they were reciting dance moves for a high school play.

The lack of emotion was a big part of the point though. Brandon specifically in this was intentionally being unemotional, because that's how it is.

Though i think more importantly, you need to look at why this film was created in the first place:
To win the lightsaber choreography competition. The LCC is not a judge of your acting capabilities, nor are you expected to actually act at all or roleplay any kind of character. It's judged on the merits of the fight itself. There's no story behind these fights, as the name of the competition indicates.

IMO: Ryan vs Dorkman and Ryan vs Brandon specifically are duels that came out better than much of the duels in the actual SW movies. That may in part be down to the mess ILM made of the official sabers for the SW films, but not entirely. Certainly they are by far the best duels available in the fanfilm community by any stretch of the imagination.

I can understand your point, but for me the emotion of a dual is half the fun. Anakin vrs Obi-Wan, Yoda vrs Dooku, Vader vrs Luke etc, etc. All great duals, but they wouldn't be half as interesting if it was just an exercise in style over substance.

Without any dialog or back story, a lightsaber dual is just another sword dual, but with fancy special effects.

As for the whole ILM messing up the prequal lightsabers??? That, I really don't understand?

Surely these fanfilms are trying to get as close to the movies as possible, so if the movies suck, then in turn the fanfilms must suck also.

Besides, remember what a mess the original trilogy sabers were?

Luke's saber going from blue in Obi-Wans house to white on the Falcon. Obi-Wan's saber flickering on and off when fighting Vader and the metal poles clearly visable at certain angles. Vader's saber not even rendered when walking towards the closing door after killing Obi-Wan?

Yeah, really good arnt they? ;)

The original three movies can be forgiven, i think, for obvious reasons.

But i'll set ya straight on a couple things ;)
A lot of people from the fanfilm community, really -really- don't like the sabers from the latest 3 films. They're really not trying to design their own sabers to copy them as closely as possible, at all, cos frankly, ILM sabers (when you give them enough consideration) are bad. Maybe when looked at from a neutral perspective, you might not draw too many lines between ILM sabers and a lot of fanfilm sabers, but they are there.

There are a number of reasons why people don't like the actual movie sabers, and why people try and make their sabers improved versions of them. My main one is in the glows; watch the film, look at the glow and see how hard and quickly the glows fall off the sabers. Especially in RotS. For me, glows just don't do that. Then watch RvB, or my truncated version of RvB you downloaded, and see the difference? But don't get me wrong, that's just one way of doing it, and by no means the 'best' way, because there really isn't one, it's all your own preference.

I understand your point about the emotion, but as i say, I guess it's really down to those involved, and it wasn't what they were being judged on ultimately.
