As for Chewbacca's age, if you can show me an accurate time line with dates and such to prove his actual age I would change the answer. The answer I have and everyone else put is a generalization.

Gantoris started learning Sith teachings from Exar Kun, but because Gantoris still believed in the Jedi Code he attempted to kill Kun before fully turning -- dying before he likely would have been truly Dark.
