Fanfic Challenge

Try & write a novelization of The Star Wars Holiday Special & make it look good (without changing any of the visible scenes).

Anyone want to try the challenge?

 

That would mean having to go back & watch it again. Sad to say, I do have it on tape somewhere. I don't know if I could handle sitting thru that.

 

I never seen it but it sounds funny

 

It's funny, but not intentionally. I remember thinking it was cool when I first saw it, but I was about 7 or 8 when it was first broadcast.

 

Does it have a crawl?

 

Ummm, to be honest, I don't remember for sure. I want to say it does. It's been about 4 years since I last watched it.

 

Was it ever officially novelized?

 

Not that I'm aware of. To give you an idea of how bad it is, Lucas has been quoted as saying if he had the time & energy, he'd round up every existing copy of the Holiday Special & destroy them with a hammer. I think George would be happy if he could make everyone forget it ever existed.

 

Given Princess Leia's musical number, Lumpy's Wookiee porn (rumored or not?), and the entire idea of Life Day, I agree with George!

 

Don't forget Harvey Korman. There's Bea Arthur's musical number and Jefferson Starship. Man, that thing is a tough watch.

You've never seen it?!? Oh man. You gotta see it before you leave for the MTC.

 

I have never seen it either, but from what I hear, Mark is wearing nearly twenty pounds of makeup, and the only good part of it was the Boba Fett cartoon. I have read the script though.

Someone told me it had Wookiee's watching soft porn and Luke Skywalker in drag. I thought they were exaggerating until I actually saw it . . .

 

Yeah I knew about Lucas hating it (As you most likely knew there was also going to be a toy series based on it but Lucas cancelled it).

 

I think we can you hooked up like a tow truck. As bad as the SWHS is, every SW fan should see it at least once. I gurantee, if they hate Ewoks & Jar Jar beforehand, they'll think differently afterwards.

SW Holiday Special Script

 

I'm going to wait for it to come out on DVD.

 

I think the day the SWHS comes out on DVD will be the same day someone sprinkles rock salt on the spot where Hell froze over. In an odd way, I wouldn't mind having it on DVD, but I doubt we'll see it in our lifetime.

Geez, I haven't thought aboput that show in years! I had it on tape as a kid and just loved it!! Thank Gawd I haven't seen it since--I think my parents, trying to spare my fragile imagination, taped over it. I have fond memories of it, so I'd be happy to never see it again. Why spoil the illusion?

Strangely enough, I had the same experience with "the Black Hole". Sadly, I watched it again as a grown-up. My psyche may never recover...
