Oh, my! Isn't Kimei pretty?! This one looks just beautiful, Sara--your skills are really refining, and it shows in each successive piece. I love the colors of the clothing, and blonde hair and green eyes are what Mystralgurl wanted, too. I'm going to beg that you PM her and let her know you've done this--she's going to be just delighted with it, I know! So, so pretty! =D=

Could it be that I actually drew something all by myself? Yes!

    [image=http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/sea102883/Art/JainaArt.gif]

Obviously, I know nothing about drawing, so comments and critiques are more than welcome.

Did you do that with your computer? I admit that I'm terrible at drawing with it. Your's is really great and I love the quote you've added. =D=

Oh very nice! I agree that adding in the quote really cements the identity of this person (as does the telltale "orange suit!"). I always sort of thought that "the Force," allegedly speaking through Luke at her Knighting ceremony, was being rather harsh with her... **shrugs**
I like the "feel" of this: with the quote, and the sort of contemplative expression on Jaina's face (head turned slightly away, eyes lowered), it really gives us a rather poignant look at her life and her circumstances (and her "destiny," if you believe the "pronouncement" from Luke...). I'm going to give you a couple of references for future portraiture--take a look here and here for some guides/references for drawing human heads and hair. This is good, but proportionally could
be a bit better, and if you look at the references provided I think you'll see what I'm talking about. I still like it a lot, and I'm really happy you've turned that corner and are trying some drawing of your own. Copy down those references and keep them handy for further practice--I know they'll be helpful!

Chilla: Yes, it was done on a computer using Photoshop (CS2). And thank you very much.

FF: Thanks for the help. If I ever get brave enough to draw again, I'll definitely use them.

Here's another coloring of FF's beautiful picture of the Skywalker family. Enjoy!

"If I ever get brave enough to draw again"

Oh, you must keep drawing Sara!! Keep on practicing--your wonderful "eye" for color can only help with honing the skills for drawing! I'd like to suggest the old "pencil and paper" route to start with, though--getting a feel for it on the traditional media is a wonderful headstart to doing it all digitally, and will speed your skill-building! Try it and let me know how it works out!

This is beautiful--it has almost an "antiqued" look to it, as though it's a photograph that's become a bit faded with time. Lovely color for the baby's blanket--green would go with that red/blonde hair, wouldn't it? ;) I like the feel of this one, too--kind of mellow and gentle, as the moment itself would have been... Very nice work!

    Hehehehehe
I like the Jag one the best.
I'm going to be shot for saying this (or worse), but I never cared much for the character. He seems more fitting for Top Gun than Star Wars :p
But I do like that I'm familiar enough with all the EU that I can appreciate fan art of the characters :) And the Jag poster is definately funny ;)

ROTFL!! Loving the "ads" Sara!! And congrats again on your win in the Beyond the Saga Fan Fic Awards! =D=

I think my favorite is the Killik "guide"--the 1-800 number had me laughing like mad! These are great--I love it when I come to the forum and get a great laugh! Thanks tons! [face_laugh]

I love that you are learning to draw! You have a natural flair for color and a GREAT sense of proportion! Are these your first ventures? If so, I may have to get very embarrassed and post some of my first works so that you know I'm not lying when I say: this is great.

That's a great portrait of Jaina you've drawn. I don't know about you but I have always found the side profile to be so much harder to draw than a straight forward pose - and you did this one the computer? Not bad at all. :) The pose works really well with the quote chosen. The general feeling I get is one that's almost...sad (her eyes closed and head positioned down along with the 'standing alone' part of the quote). I like the added detail to her hair, but I'd just advise you to perhaps next time to use a lighter colour for the BG or for the hair so that the two don't blend together so much. The detail does help to discern to two though. ;)

As for proportions, I'd say that some of her facial features are just a bit too small for the size of her head, the most apparent being the ear. The ear also strikes me as being a little too far forward on her face as well, but besides that, everything else looks to be well placed - you have a good sense of where things lie. (No doubt from all the fantastic colouring you did on the artwork you've done in the past.)

I enjoyed the Fan fic awards, especially the Killik one. The free membrosia cocktails book amused me, but the 1-800 number was definately a nice touch. [face_laugh] Good stuff.

Wow. Jag turned out great! The coloured version looks very good - The texture of the hair really stands out, and it just looks so clean. I just think that his jaw needs to be more stronger as it's very compact and it gives the impression that his ears are very large. If you pushed his lips down a little further away from his nose, and pulled the bottom of his jaw further down, giving him more of a chin in the process, I think it would balance out and give his face some more form to it.

Really nice work. Keep it up. :)

"FF: Glad you liked the ads as well, and for the rest of this update I blame you."

    :D

You can't know how tickled I am that you're really having a go at drawing, Sara! :D Jag's portrait looks just great! I can see that you're making use of the references I offered--well done! Your_Worship has offered some wonderful critique, so I won't elaborate on the areas she's already touched on. I will suggest that you give close attention to the shape of the features on the face as you draw--for any give angle (here we see a slight turn away from "straight on") the features have a specific shape. With Jag's nose, it looks to me like more of a "straight on" view, rather than the slight angle for the rest of his face. The "swell" of the nostril on the left side of his nose would be less pronounced than that on the right, due to the angling away of the face. If you study some photos of faces (both men and women), I think you'll see what I mean--the shape of the features we see will be determined by the angle of the face in its turn away from or toward us. Did that make any sense...? [face_thinking] I really love the colored version--those green eyes... And I'm with Suz on the cool texturing of his hair--it'd be really curly if he grew it out, wouldn't it? :D Keep on drawing, Sara--I can see tremendous progress already, and if you keep at it, the improvement will become exponential! Great work!

So yeah, I'm trying to teach myself how to draw...

    Oh, I never left :p
I just don't always have something to say. You, and the rest of the artists I'm fans of can rest assured that I'm always looking even if I'm not typing lol
Think of it like this: I buy an art book of an artist I like. As I'm flipping through the book, I'll be commenting on pieces that really strike me. But even if I don't comment, doesn't mean I don't like the artist or the piece ;) I'm not saying that's what you were thinking, I was just explaining myself.
Ummm. I think I did ok. Or I just dug myself into a hole [face_laugh]

As far as teaching yourself to draw, it's coming along very nicely so far as I can immediately tell who the person is. I'm also glad you're utilizing your coloring techniques on your own works :)

EDIT - Meaning that I love seeing 100% Sara.

I'm not good with this whole complimenting thing today o_O I'm just... wow. Terrible :(

Hey, Sara. I'm still here too!

Just want to add my congratulations that you're working seriously at drawing! You've received great suggestions already, so I'll just be a cheering section and say, "Keep going". Practice is the best way to improve.

You know, for every drawing I screw up the courage to post here, there are dozens in the waste basket!

Oh, Sara, Jaina looks just beautiful!! The colors are just perfect, especially for her eyes: they're the ideal shade of golden-brown, just like fine brandy with the warm light of a candle glowing through it...perfect! I love the green tones of the jacket against the soft blue of the background, too--both colors really accent her hair and eyes...it's all just gorgeous! Thank you for this! [:D] She looks just wonderful!

Maybe it's time for you to start working on some pieces to include in your fabulous story--I know your little head has to be full of ideas! Who better to realize them than you...? Think about this--it could be great motivation for your drawing, and it would benefit the story as well, allowing you to develop chapters according to your own vision...? Consider this carefully, BF--I'm sure you could do both the drawing and the writing.

I love the Jaina piece (and the latest installment of "The Family Album!")! It's amazing!

Hey, your great at coloring! About how you think you can't draw, my sisters are twins and are total opposites, well, one would always draw really good pictures and the other would always color them. The one that likes to sketch is a proffesor at an art institute and she says your coloring is really good, better than what she says to me when I won a poetry contest.

    Wow!! Mondo Update indeed!!

Absolutely loving all of it, Sara--but most especially (and this goes out to goddess45 as well! ;) ) Airen's portrait--just YUM!! =P~ :p And to both you and oldjedinurse on Nik--another big YUM!! There are entirely too many good-looking men in this Family Album! lol! The saliva glands become exhausted with all the drooling! [face_laugh]

Seriously, the coloring in these is just wonderful--you're really beginning to develop a lot more subtlety with the shadowing and tones, and the result is a much richer "luminosity" to all of them, particularly with the eyes. Just wonderful! Can't wait to see the chapters that some of these will surely spur--and of course, you know how flattered I am that you used "I Do!" on the cover... Beautiful additions all!
