ANH, easily. You could probably make a case for others being technically more advanced, but they all built on the foundation of that mile-long Star Destroyer rumbling past and showing us a sense of scale that was awe-inspiring.

 

No one had ever seen anything like that ANH opening. It just announced that moviemaking had changed.

 

I wanted to go with ANH because that scene is so iconic but judging them equally I gotta go with ROTS Battle over Coruscant. So much action and such a cool scene right from the beginning of the movie. Definitely the most fun opening for me.

 

ANH opening is such a perfect opening. Easily the most memorable in the saga, and one of the most memorable cinematic openings in general.

 

yeah, ANH's opening is probably the most iconic opening in movie history.

This is hardly a contest tbh.

 

Battle over Coruscant, definitely. That opening shot, where the camera follows two starfighters through a warzone in one long, continuous take, is unbelievable. Beautifully executed and super thrilling - in no small part thanks to JW's majestic, foreboding score ("War drums echo through the heavens").
A truly unique shot in the Saga that sets the tone for a spectacular tragedy on a galactic scale.

 

I'm really, really tempted to go with ROTS because it's just awesome, but I'mma have to go with ANH.

But they're all pretty great. Even TROS.

 

Battle of Coruscant.
Largest battle in the saga and so much is happening even in the first minute. Plus, Anakin and Obi-Wan in complete synch.
Its epic beyond belief.

 

Gotta go with ANH. Just too classic.

 

ROTS. Just masterfully crafted with the drums, and the 2 ships gliding across the Republic Star Destroyer only to reveal a massive epic battle. Plus, the color pallete is immaculate with reds, oranges, blues popping everywhere. And it’s a ton of fun giving that iconic Obi-Wan/Anakin dynamic one last time.

 

One last time so far


I also have to go with ROTS even though ROTJ is my favorite overall. ROTJ's opening is a close second.

 

The original is still the best.

 

I was very close to giving ROTS the vote for the above reasons, but ANH is just too iconic.

These ones stand out to me. Rogue One had a pretty cool one with the ANH homage.

 

Although I love the classic ANH opening, ROTS is my favorite. In addition to the reasons already mentioned, we get the "best star pilot in the galaxy and a cunning warrior."

 

Easily ANH. It's iconic, and a masterclass of visual storytelling.
Something about the opening on Mustafar with Kylo also sticks out to me as well.

 

ROTS or ROTJ.
ROTS for the Battle, ROTJ for Vader shutting up that Commander.
The Emperor isn't as forgiving as I am.

Now i've thought about it I'll go with TFA.

 

I like that opening shot too. And I always saw it as a clever inversion of the ROTS one, since those troop transports fly away from the star destroyer toward the camera while the Jedi starfighters do the opposite!

 

The whole atmosphere of it. I can still remember exactly how it felt in the cinema. (It was the first sar wars film i saw there so i might be a little bit biased.)

 

ANH is iconic but ROTS takes your breath away.Especially with those war drums playing.

 

It's a tie for me between ANH and ROTS, both exemplary pieces of visual storytelling. ANH communicates the stakes of the conflict between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire with both simplicity and scale. ROTS pushes the complexity of the digital realm further than ever, yet never loses focus on its two heroes, both in sync with each other as the chaos unfolds around them.
